I've got all those original comics.. Its things like that make a 13 year old become One with the Last of Daze. 10 years behind, but it never stopped me. I still still that youngest hippy kid. I was there at the free shows in Sf. My folks were vicarious hippies...I'm so lucky.

I was 15 years old when I discovered Underground Comix Gilbert Sheldon, R.Crumb and his wife's illustrated works. The Freak Brothers, Doping Dan, Mr.Natural, The Leather Nun, My Deaf Groin, and many other comics whose titles I can't recall I was a young hippie then I'm an old one now. MY hair is now bald,my teeth gone, I look like a old grandpa. Still I feel like I did when I was 15. I just am not as agile as I used to be. I'm not going to rot away in a rocking chair. When I get to the point I can't take care of myself anymore. I will take the long walk in the snow like my Cherokee Grandmother did. She lives on in the nature of mother earth. The Freak Brothers on the internet is great!

Here's something to think about, the counterculture represented less than 2% of the entire generation! Still, the impact was huge! But everyone who was there can remember the moments of isolation and loneliness, when you felt like you were the only freak around. Until, you met up with friends or went to a gathering or a concert and then everything felt good, everyone was family and you knew you were right!

I still haven't forgotten the radio broadcast Stevens did in LA. where he bashed western culture and turned to Islam. Stevens sux cat turds

I used to have almost all the Freak Brothers cartoon books. I foolishly loaned them to folks. I only have one rather cloth-eared version left. I hope all those bastards out there enjoyed! Thanks youtube people for giving back what was stolen.

I grew up hanging around the edge of the room, probably self-absorbed about something, and Cat Stevens' song "Father And Son", as well as the Zap Comix; Robert Crumb, Mr. Natural *, Janis & Big Brother "Cheap Thrills", and Neil Young's song "Old Man" all come to mind as Associated Images. * I made a zeroxed paper-onto-cardboard version of Mr. Natural's Car; he knew the Freak Brothers well. Still does.

Reminds me of drawing my own characters and them coming out a bit crap when I was a kid. And to one of my dad's favourite songs. Excellent!
