1973 Tahiti Jet Boat: Maiden Voyage
Переглядів 7205 місяців тому
The big-block Oldsmobile jetboat is finally ready for her first sea trial. The last year this Schuster Tahiti Torino was registered, Enron was still a thriving business (2006)! I talk about some of the work done, and take it for a short blast around Woods resevoir in southern Middle Tennessee. More to come!

This video presents my advice and techniques for picking up and assembling the lift, along with my initial impressions. There's limited information available about this particular lift, and the instruction manual doesn't align with the current version of the product. Hopefully, this video can help address some of the documentation's shortcomings.
Quick & Easy Jet Boat Oil Change Tutorial!

Check out this efficient method for changing the oil in a boat with restricted sump access. I demonstrate the process on my 1973 Tahiti, equipped with a 455 Oldsmobile engine, but it's applicable to various makes and models. What sets this method apart is its simplicity - no need for expensive tools or equipment. With just some tubing, a bucket, and a drill, you'll be able to tackle this task e...

I made a receiver hitch for my 1985 BMW 325e to haul my bike and jet ski. All hardware is grade 2, 3/8-16 with corresponding washers, lock washers and nuts. The full weight (~200lbs) of my body was placed on the hitch as a test; this is more tongue weight than the car will probably ever see. This is version 1. Norton Commando Mikuni Carburetor

My black and gold 1972 Norton Commando 750 gets converted to a single carburetor using a Colorado Norton Works kit. The twin Amal carbs, though original, have seen better days. Purists may scoff at the idea of Japanese components on something so purely British as a Norton, but this machine begs to be ridden. This conversion simplifies maintenance, increases reliability, eases tuning, and allows...

Do you put that seal shit in you gaskets or is it okay to just install them dry
@@StarshipFab depends. Usually just a little grease to coat the gasket. Sometimes I'll glue one side down and powder the other if I need to disassemble it many times.
i just came across your video. my dad and I built that car 16 years ago in south west pennsylvania.
what a sissy... one carb; less power
Don't you have a hose that you can feed through the drain hole, then just have gravity do it's thing?
No, I do not.
Isn't there a drain plug on the oil pan though? You could add a hose, which would make this process much easier.
@@rustynail914 there is a drain in the oil pan, but it's too close to the hill to install a fitting. In that case, you'd just be draining oil into the bilge. I thought about it a lot and this was the best solution I could come up without major modifications or a motor-out.
Looks like a blast! Good on ya' for wearing a PFD too!
What hot start ? You just told everyone..it hadn't been started in a month !!! And you had to prime carb ..if it hadn't been started in a while... But it was hard to start from a hot start...meaning car has already been running before you shot video...Now the problem is ...the time is to advanced .. this happens when car has already been running...
Appreciate your input. The timing was indeed to advance. Car was sold over a year ago.
Labor time for head cam intake install on this engine
Id say book time is somehwere in the 6-12 range.
The air screw on my Amal carb of my new Norton vibrated out.
Do i need to modify vortec heads on a sbc 350 , i have stock k5 blazer 1985
Modify? No. They bolt directly on. The intake will need to be changed for a vortec specific intake.

Anthracite is much darker. Hyper black is like a silver tint coat on top of a black base coat. Unless you are going for a murdered out look, my vote goes to hyper black
No, that is a 2 door sedan.

Dont take my word for it :) bbs.homeshopmachinist.net/forum/general/51169-glue-for-buna-n-o-ring-material www.redpowermagazine.com/forums/topic/43713-anybody-ever-glued-an-o-ring-back-together/
You can also use a rubber band
Please don't do this
I'd recommend using some grey rtv after cutting it just in case. That dollar store super glue will break down from heat and is rigid when dries.
RTV is a no-go on o-rings. O-rings need to be able to "move" in the joint to best seal. A light coating of quality silicon grease like SuperLube, Halocarbon, or Dow Corning Vaccuum grease goes a long way in making a good seal.
This is how the aviation industry makes an oring unserviceable so it won’t be used again
This is pure gold!
It seems like it would fail if there was any significant pressure.
The pressure WILL crack the glue.
It's the compression of the o-ring in the channel. O-rings will slightly deform (go square)...it's this action that makes the seal.
@@Sam590ss doesn't matter if it does. It's held in place by the joint and the compression will force the seal into the channel and the ends together. The glue does nothing but hold form
@TriStarGearhead Oh. Whenever I have replaced an o ring the way it looked was pressure got to it. I always assumed that is why I was replacing it. How does the seal fail if not from pressure?
@@justinjackson2588 what I've seen more often than not is that they will get brittle from age/heat/chemical exposure and then yes the force of whatever is behind it will push it out.
CA glue deteriorates in heat. It’s how you can release CA. This guys something else.
Loctite 404 is the best for this application, but for low pressure static seals, CA is fine. The compression of the joint makes the seal, not the glue. The glue just holds the ring in the proper form in the channel until assembled and torqued.
Uh-huh
Don't do this.
Have you ever torn down a multi-million dollar machine to replace an o-ring where: 1. complete tear-down meant $100k+ lost and 2. There is no off-the-shelf part available? I have and it works. This is a field-proven method.
Dont speak on subjects where you have no knowledge. There to much of it in the world. And it makes you loon like a fool. This works very well
@@TriStarGearhead Preach man, anyone who hasn't needed this shouldn't speak on it. It works
Or you can get the correct size for less than 50cents

What do you call that kind of castor wheel, and where can I get them, thx
Advocating for a single Mikuni is no 'fix' at all. If your Norton is hard to start that doesn't mean it's the fault of the carbs. If you're sure it is, it's easier and cheaper to rebuild the Amals, flush the ethanol gas that is plugging them up and you still have the acceleration, the torque and the grunt that Norton Commandos are known for. If the learning curve to rebuild and adjust the 50 year old carbs doesn't interest you or you think the rebuild might not help, buy a new pair of Amal Premiere carbs and you still have that Norton grunt. With a Mikuni carb a Commando doesn't run the same and doesn't even sound the same. A single Mikuni 34mm is not the same as dual carbs which is 2 x 30mm or 2 x 32mm if you have 32mm manifolds.
I stand by my decision to run a Mik. When I do a nut-and-bolt restoration, I'll be using Amal Premieres. For now, this is just fine.
@@TriStarGearhead I realize you've already made your decision. I comment to other Norton restorers who are considering which direction to take when they consider their carburetor choices. Most single Mikuni owners advocate the decision they have made as a good decision but rarely do they expose the inherent performance losses which might be important to other owners. One Mikuni advocate told me his single Mikuni Commando is faster than any with dual carbs because in his Norton club nobody can catch him. Another told me there is no performance difference "except at the very top end" which he apparently never gets to. Some suppliers sell and advertise the single Mikuni kit as an "upgrade". Questionable but I can't see them advertising it as a 'downgrade'. In the end I'm glad you're satisfied with your choice. I'm a Norton owner since 1972 and own several Commandos. All of them with dual carbs, all start 1-2 kicks and all idle properly (for now).
Robert. You are directly over the target. If you swap too Mikuni your hitting yourself in the nuts. I have had many customers insist and I tell them take it somewhere else. Most I see later still trying to kick they’re British Bike too life. Lazy knuckleheads that have shit in their brains.
Mikuni guys that think they want to be British bike mechanics. 0 respect. 0 agreement. Alls it shows is that you have no ability or confidence or interest in doing what it takes to make things right.
Just tune it right dude ,my 745 Atlas has twin Amal carbs and it's a first kick starter 😊
