I think what many people’s get wrong about the chaos gods is that you can’t apply mortal morality too them, because they aren’t mortal beings, they’re more like universal constants taken the their natural extremes, so in a way they can’t really be evil( not to say their followers can’t be evil but that’s besides the point). They have existed since the dawn of time and without them their universe would cease to function properly. But let’s actually look into them as a whole, the good and the bad. Nurgle: the god of decay, death, disease, despair, and stagnation. But he is also the god of life, renewal, acceptance, and consistency. He loves all living beings and wishes to bring them into his embrace by whatever means he can, showing love through his plagues. Without him there would be no consistency in the universe, life and death would cease to have meaning. Tzeench: the god of trickery, lies, mutation, and schemes. But also of magic, change, hope, and knowledge. He is change incarnate, meaning he is neither good or evil since change just means being different from before. A lot of people say he only screws with his followers but I would say it’s more of a 50/50 chance. Without him there would be no lies but also no one smart enough to see through it. Nothing would ever change and ever would stagnate. Slaneesh: the one who thirsts. She is the god of excess, suffering, and depravity. But also the god of sensation, joy, and artistry. Yes she enjoys suffering, but she also wants you to have a fun time, however depraved or innocent it may be. Without her all sensation would cease. There would be not enjoyment and also no suffering to make the good times mean anything. (Personally she is my least favorite god and it took me a whip to realize this, but whatever) Khorne: the god of blood, rage, murder, war, and punishment. Also he is the god of honor, discipline, skill, strength, and honesty. He is the universal law of survival of the fittest. While it is brutal, it is also the most honorable way the universe can operate, being the idea that you can only succeed off of your skills and them alone, no tricks, unfair advantages, or cheating. He will never lie to you or trick you into worshipping him, he may influence you to join him, but you must willingly accept his divinity. Without him there would be no brutality, but also nobody strong enough to overcome it, honor and honesty would no longer exist. Now I know some will say, “but the emperor said they were evil and hell bent on humanities downfall.” Keep in mind though he was a narcissistic, genocidal, hypocrite who was willing to say and do anything to get what he wanted. Plus while he was born a very long time ago, he wasn’t alive since creation, so his knowledge on it and by extension the chaos gods is spotty at best. If anybody has any questions about this please tell me, I’d love to talk.

I wouldnt mind if there like was like 10-30 out there handcrafted by the emperor before he throned. Just because they fit the criteria so well so he couldnt pass them up. But theyd be so rare you probably would only hear them in passing. Kinda like yeah they exist, but theyre part of the rarest entities in the universe. Reason why we havent heard about them til now. I think that could have worked. You then have lore reasons to go make homebrews if you really wanted to. And theyd be rare enough to both either not make stories about. Or if you wrote a story about them, those would be some exceptional characters. But the universe would emphasize theyre a rare anomaly and thusly theyd all kinda be unique characters in a sense
