Rudolphs Wild New Year Sequel

Robbie: The Reindeer You Forgot About

Today I decided to revisit what I consider to be a holiday classic, Robbie The Reindeer in Hooves Of Fire. I think the reason for the 1776 island was due to America’s bicentennial celebration if you look at the year.
8:38 imagine they encounter Wallace and Gromit while on the moon
I loved The Other Side of the Moon !
This Robbie special you talk about looks like an Aardman special.
I dont like Rudolph's design in the sequel...they made his look more like a squirrel than a deer 🐿️🐿️
I didn't notice it until I rewatched the special this year, but the baby bear sounds like Sid the Sloth.
2:55 this might be Xenoblade 3
0:15 *12 years
You can also tell Rudolph is voiced by a 56 year old woman in this special
Yo I remember this shit!
Jack Frost, shouldn't it too be considered a special for groundhog's day? Thats when I view this special it seems to fit that holiday more then Christmas.
I was lucky to watch the OG dub on Nicktoons as well as the first sequel.
Before CBS ruined it, the original dub aired in the US on the Fox network, during their Fox Kids Saturday morning block, which is where I saw it. (I'm not sure if just Hooves of Fire or the first two aired on Fox.) Needless to say, I was very annoyed when I saw the commercials for the CBS airing which was redubbed and didn't watch it. I hate it when they give American dubs to shows that were already in English in general, but CBS just hired people that were already starring in their sitcoms rather than picking actors that would best fit their roles. I think Brittany Spears and Ben Stiller were the only celebrity actors who weren't also starring in CBS sitcoms. Even Ben Stiller was still connected to CBS, as his dad Jerry Stiller was in King of Queens at the time. They also gave a terrible American dub to Raymond Briggs' Father Christmas animated special. The American voiced Santa (I don't remember if he was called Santa or Father Christmas in this version) was made less grumpy, and some scenes were removed, such as Santa drinking wine. The American public is not asking for these things. Monty Python and shows like Faulty Towers and Red Dwarf air on PBS and are popular. And in more recent years, Downton Abbey became really popular as well. On the other hand, all of the American remakes of Fawlty Towers have failed miserably. And the US version of Red Dwarf didn't make it past the pilot stage. (I'm probably one of the few people that even saw and remembers "Payne", one of the US remakes of Fawlty Towers. The Basil Fawlty equivalent is named "Royal Payne". That gives you an idea as to the level of comedy that this version provided. It was cancelled very quickly.) Oh, and CBS also gave us the remake of One Foot in the Grave starring BILL COSBY, which was titled "Cosby". Meanwhile PBS was airing the original version, so I was able to watch both versions. Except for one episode that used a plot from the original, Cosby did not resemble the OFitG at all, other than it being a show about elderly people. I only knew Cosby was a remake because the credits of Cosby mentions that it was based on OFitG. (Cosby did actually last more than one season, so it was more successful than most of these remakes, but they obviously can't rerun it now.)
i remember not liking this when i would watch it as a kid
This one never made the list for old Christmas favorites. It was ok but never one of my favorites. The original Rudolph was probably my favorite. And A Charlie Brown Christmas. The Grinch who stole Christmas. Santa Claus is coming to Town and Frosty the Snowman. Those are probably my top 5 of the old Christmas specials growing up.
It's pretty obvious from what we see, each Year retires to an IDEALIZED version of the year they ruled.
Where are Hermey, Clarice, Yukon Cornelius, and Bumble?
Rankin Bass does not give a hoot and nanny about continuity just as much as not giving credit to the Japanese studios that they outsourced to
I came across Robbie when I was researching reindeer lore. Truthfully, at the time I couldn’t afford the DVD or find anything on the internet until now. Unfortunately, reindeer lore doesn't have any appeal for adults or children. Reindeer Mythology wasted.
Wow, I forgot about this entirely but as soon as I saw the thumbnail, I immediately thought "wait, wasn't this the cartoon with the Seal joke?"
I watched it on tv but it was the original British dub.
I watched this in Host Nation class when I was in England. I really enjoyed it.
Big mistake MANY miss. This show takes place right after the "FOGGY" night. That being circa 1962. A "couple of year's " before Sam the Snowman relates the story. Got me? Sooooo HOW on earth can he visit the island of 1965? 😂😂😂😂 It didn't happen yet so it COULDN'T be retired. 🤔🤔🤔🤔 MERRY CHRISTMAS 🎄🎄🎅🎅🎅
I remember getting this trilogy and Olive the other reindeer mixed up at the time. I saw both and although olive looked nicer I found myself liking robbie more. Just goes to show, don't judge a book by its cover :D
Something tells me we are getting a lot more Holiday Crossovers then we thought. 6:14
Happy isnt the Only one with big ears, Nester the donkey also had the same problem to.
I watch tham on Christmas because New Year’s Doesn’t last long
Yes, in the new year movie but I watch it on Christmas anyway all these movies of rackin entertainment I want every Christmas not New years
they called it Nineteen wonderful as there was still 25 more years until the year 2000 and they didn't want to date the special with a specific year.
Funny this sequel happens to be my first Rudolf movie which did worked out for me and gained me sympathy for baby Happy. And as a grown up now I can say I can relate to Happy
This special is 100x better than Happy New Year, Charlie Brown. That special's AWFUL.
Amen to that, bud. A lot of the Peanuts specials are crappy like that, but seriously, why is Charlie Brown the only one who has to do a book report?! And Linus stealing his girl just to get out of hanging with Sally - terrible. Just terrible.
I used to love this special as a kid.
besides the "unfortunate years", possibly there's going to be a 1970 -land with Groovy representative and 1980 land with a Cindy Lauper/Madonna representative
I like the concept for Shiny New Year. I just hate how disconnected it is from the original. Look, the designs, hell none of the original characters from the first are even mentioned. Santa is portrayed completely differently to the point he might as well be a completely different character. Shiny New Year would’ve really benefited from having a stronger connection with the original. Idk have Ukon and Herme join Rudolph instead of forgetting they even existed.
Rankin Bass does not give a hoot and nanny about continuity just as much as not crediting the Japanese studios that they outsourced to
@ Clearly they did, cause they wanted to connect all the specials. Rudolph in Frosty’s Christmas in July is proof of that. They also did the 2D lord of the rings film I believe. They had a fascination with fantasy and lore. Also yeah that is bad, credit to the animators.
This special isn't particularly good, but it is pretty creative, so I think it gets by on that more than anything.
Presumably meant to comfort children who get laughed at for being funny- or otherwise different-looking, this special only succeeds in justifying cruelty. You'd think Rudolph would be more empathetic rather than fall back on a lame variation of the "We're not laughing at you, we're laughing with you" BS rationalization.
These occurrences seem too repetitive.
I remember I watched this as a kid around Christmas and liking it but Totally forgot its name ✨👍 thank you for reminding me. Tho I watched a Danish dub version so I imagine we got it from UK
The World War years do indeed have islands. But it's all just Switzerland. Nothing but Switzerland.
The Island 1918 of the Spanish Flu, repped by a doctor with a mask on
Baby bear was voiced by Red Skelton, who also voiced Father Time
12 years, not 11, after Rudolph
@@nancyomalley6286 oops
2020 island is probably like the sentinlese island where no one's allowed on the island
I always thought the baby looked a bit like Harpo Marx with the hat on so I always said "It's Baby Harpo!" when watching the special
I thought he looked more like machine gun Kelly
Always liked this special how he went back in various times
I wish we could have seen the 60's Island. They could have had Ringo Starr as the Island's representative
@@nancyomalley6286 A Ringo Starr cameo would’ve made this special 10 times better.
Funny story: As a kid I watched all 3 movies multiple times when they aired on TV. While watching the third, my mom told me that I should go to bed. Ofc I didn't want to, because the movie hasn't ended yet. She told me that the movie probably soon will air again, so I can watch it then. Accepting that argument, I went to bed. THIS WAS THE LAST TIME THIS MOVIE AIRED IN GERMANY (THE COUNTRY I LIVE IN).
nuhuh
I still think Big Ben's name could've worked had he been given a British accent
By an actual British person not an American
@@skootergirl22exactly it's not like America was lacking any British actors living in America at the time as their was George Sanders, Alan Napier and Roddy McDowell
I still wonder why Rudolph's best friend Hermie and his girlfriend Clarice are nowhere to be seen in this atleast the CGI sequel remembered to include them
probably busy with attendng Dental School.
I had a build a bear of her I do recall watching these specials
Same thing with Karen not returning in the Frosty sequel
@@3dartistguygood point
Because Rankin Bass does not give a hoot and nanny about continuity as much as not crediting the Japanese studios that they outsourced to
And of course in 2004 we would get a CGI sequel to the Rankin Bass film taking place a year after the events of the original Rudolph and the Island of Misfit Toys
Oh, don't even get me started on that one lol. Mostly everything about that movie was horrible. I would pick Rudolps Shiny New Year any day over that one.
@@NostalgicRevisits fair enough
