Rusty towbar clean and repaint, Citroen Xsara Picasso
Переглядів 4193 місяці тому
With an hour to spare, I set about tackling the rust on the Picasso's towbar. It was looking decidedly crusty and flaky after over ten years on the car. Another job done, before the onset of winter.

Marvelous video mate. POV drive - perfect. I'd love a future one to show us around the 'cockpit'. I;d love to know what controls are what :)
I know what most are, information & name's there, why did we have to endure shite music,0 education or information, most people watch this on there fones, not giant puta screens, switched it off, rotting mini in the middle of that lot funny
Great video, have you ever adjusted ride height? If so can you do a quick video?
Hi, thanks for the feedback. Bit too cold in the garage at the moment for working on cars. Might do as you suggest when the weather warms up.
Wots with the crap pink panther music,& a hat
Wow that looks pretty good, well done 👍
I have one for sale if ur interrsted
Hi, yes, I thought about silicone, or even plasticine. The clay was just an idea and I hope to experiment a bit more in future . Cheers.
Not a bad result, you should be pleased! Would a silicone mould have been easier to separate? A good idea, thanks for sharing.
I had a Bond mini car in the 1960s, you pulled a handle to start it, and some Bonds had a kick start in the engine compartment. They were very light as they were made from aluminium. The 197cc Villiers engine could be temperamental. I also had a bubble car, which I loved and several Reliant three-wheelers. They were great days.
Hi, interesting you saying about the Villiers engine in the Bond being temperamental . I have a Scootacar with a Villiers and can confirm that it is indeed temperamental. 😂
@@peakfreans68 I had several motorcycles, such as the James 197cc, and they could be reliable. I had a James Captain Deluxe. The Villiers I did like was the Villiers 2T. They were a great engine. I had one in a Panther motorcycle, very fast.
Not a Slough built car, cack handed !
never mount your pump inside the cabin of your car for safety reasons. especially in light of the terrible quality and short lifespan of todays rubber hoses.
Fair point, but The pump is actually in the boot/luggage area. I had removed the rear seat for access so it probably looks as if it's in the passenger area.
Lovely! Saw one of these at a 2cv place in Göttingen, Germany on my year abroad going for 1200 euros in 2006 and was tempted!!!
i have the same fuel pump on my willys jeep..it never shuts off...i had to install a pressure regulator to make sure it doesn't overwhelm the the needle valve in the carburetor and flood the engine out.
I'm not familiar with those, but will look into it. As long as they're not too expensive . I may have another go at fitting the replacement mechanical pump I bought ages ago. Even now, although the car is running, I'm not entirely sure what the problem was.
I saw one in Kingston upon Thames a few weeks ago
Looks like your headlamp reflectors are a bit rusty, good luck finding new ones probably imossible or super expensive. It probably had Marchal headlamps, they had some really cool designs.
Yes, that's true, but I am trying to sell the car, so don't want to spend large amounts of money. If I was keeping the car, it would be a different story.
i dont think its suppose tick all the time. Perhaps you have a leak somewhere or you should install in addition, a fuel pressure regulator.
Why have you got an electric fuel pump? I'm no expert but on a 2CV the fuel pump is mechanical and works all the time as the fuel is sucked up from lower than the carb. Should the fuel line come off before the fuel pump you lose little fuel. Beautiful car!
Yes, you are right, it should normally have a mechanical pump. I have mentioned this in other videos, but to summarise- I fitted a new mechanical pump, but the fuel delivery was minimal. The logical thing at the time seemed to be to fit an electrical one and see if it was any better.
Thanks- will look into the epoxy primer next time. I went gor the high build primer, cause I thought it would have good filling properties. I do find a better finish is achieved with a spray gun, but wanted to try it this way as an experiment .
Yes probably.
And in a couple of months its rusted again
The silhouette, scale and stance of the car is very contemporary with the 2020s. In miniature form,
I always liked the two door version this one looks to be in really nice condition.
A can of epoxy primer would have sealed it over the rust treated rim. then the high fill block it back then apply colour also, you could have wiped down the rim with turps and a clean cloth even before applying the rust convertor
Nice drawing of a Bond Bug on the wall behind :)
Nice repair job
Thanks 👍
Love your fleet.
Yes, it's an acquired taste. Part of it's charm though, I think.
Ami 6 with a face only a mother could love related to the spaceship CX. Then it all went downhill.
I had several Ami as a younger man. Ami 6 and Ami 8 were so common and popular in France in the 1970/80s that nobody thought they were quirky cars.
What a hell. ?? Lord have mercy. What’s that ??
3 lovely vehicles. Dripping with charm and all worthy of restoration.👍
What a cool quiver of little cars! I really like the looks of the Ami & the Messerschmitt!
The pump needs to be at the back and check if there is a copper washer between the fitting and the master cylinder.
You are absolutely spot on. I've now done this- relocated the fuel pump and refitted the flexi hose with the copper washers in the right place. Working well so fat. Have just released another video to reflect this.
@@peakfreans68 I will have a look, most fuel pump work better with a head of fuel. I had a KR200 but was forced to sell it due to a relationship breakup, the worst thing I have ever did after spending years restoring it.
I have just been working on a 1965 2CV which had not run for over 25 years. The fuel tank and sender unit appears very similar to your Ami's. I could not get any petrol to be drawn up to the carburettor. I drained the tank, (the stink of old petrol is very pungent and seemed to hang around me for several days) and after dropping the tank and taking out the sender unit/pick-up pipe I found the strainer on the bottom of the pipe completely blocked with fuel residue. The cork float on the fuel gauge had rotted & disappeared ! It's worth checking yours; you can get the sender unit out through the hole in the floor without dropping the tank but if it's anything like mine you'll need to do a thorough internal clean of the tank.
Thanks for the tip. I did replace the original Ami fuel tank, which was completely rotten, with a late 2V tank. I flushed out the replacement tank with fresh fuel. I have also blown through both ends of the fuel pipe with an air line and it seemed quite clean.
Looks like the Doors need some adjusting. Or has the car been shortened in a crash
Have tried in vain to adjust the doors. Replaced the original rotten ones with spare ones, which came with the car but can't get the adjustment right😢
What is the connection with the flexible brake hose to the master cylinder? If it is a copper washer, is it new or was it the old, if the old annealing this will make it soft and it will seal when crushed. If it goes into a flare, is this in good condition? There are two types of fuel pump, push or pull, need the right one for this to work properly. Frustrating, we have all been there, a step back & a break makes all the difference, shame you did not get what you wanted from the Ami. I like your Scootacar - one sold for very silly money recently and wasn't even a good one, not as nice as yours!
I think the pump would work better at the back. I love those Ami's
Thanks...I'll try it when I next get the chance.
Goddamn I'm drunk and this is the coolest channel I've found yet.

@@peakfreans68 Very good :)
So stylish & futuristic - more so than the modern-day blobs
I just bought my second one of these the other day . They are an incredibly fun ride
Hi most were trailered, including mine. I don't quite have the stamina for a 100 mile journey from the midlands to Somerset, although some braver souls might.
Looks like it was a well-supported event. How many cars drove there under their own power, or were they all trailered? Thanks for sharing.
Hi, that sounds like good advice- might try repositioning the fuel pump, as you suggest. There were no specific instructions with the pump, so I (perhaps wrongly) assumed it was front mounted. I notice your name, by the way, saw a lovely Austin Swallow in the transport museum yesterday, in blue and white.
Is the fuel pump correct - i.e. is it a pull type, which would be correct for its position, or a push type, in which case, it is never going to work properly unless it is down by the fuel tank outlet. Good luck with selling the Ami!
Hi there, yes I had thought of uprating it a little. However, a non standard engine would affect thr car's value as it would then be non original. There would be other things to sort out, like the brakes, which aren't great.
My father owned ami 8 and I never realised how much different they were under the bonnet. I thought they differed only on looks... interesting.
Hi yes that is interesting. I'm not familiar with the Ami 8 and assumed the 8 was a more updated/ restyled version of the 6. I'm sure they are still mechanically very similar, as I did change a set of points on a 2CV years ago and the set up was the same, albeit with a different bodyshell.
Is that a Citroen Ami and a Meschesmitt also in your garage, some very interesting cars you have there 😀 👍
Yes it is!
