Reveries of the Solitary Walker is inspired by the Genevan philosopher Jean-Jacques Rousseau and his final, unfinished work of the same name.
In the book he makes a series of 10 Promenades in and around Paris, during which he reflects on the sense of isolation he experienced from the often critical and negative responses to his writings, and mixes reminiscences with observations of the natural world he encounters on these walks and the inspiration that he draws from them.
