    My son have the 600x for almost a year and got lots of mud but for short periods, like about 90 minutes and the belt never have come off. I’ve done only 2 maintenance, I’ve fix the tire from flats twice and decided to change to betters tires and the other maintenance is hosing the belt to remove the mud and that’s all. Now I want to buy the 600adx when it goes on sale for myself, I’m loving the low maintenance

      I would question if this guy set up his bike properly from the beginning. The adjustments are different than a derailleur and you need to be proficient with this drive system instead of just complaining about the bike.

    The maintenance isn't hard. Based on your review, and how you talk about bikes, you know little about how to work on a bike. The belt doesn't need to be retensioned when the wheel is removed. Also, the app works. It's what Gates themselves use. You don't know what you're talking about.

    Glad I stumbled onto this. I was wondering how I could make my car more comfortable to sleep in and I did fold my back seats down, but taking them out would probably help out and make things a lot easier. Awesome. :D

    You rode in the southwest North American wet clay, with an Eastern mindset. 4:21 There is no way you can engineer a drivetrain to ride that hell broth and it is foolish to try. Your analysis is predicated on faulty facts and is therefore invalid.

    The problems with mud would be an issue with any bike. And you were changing the tire wrong. This is a hardtail mountain bike not a gravel bike. It's slower because its capable of more.

    You need to tighten your belt if it comes off from mud. Actually you can over-tighten it temporarily to help it clean off.

  • @tempest1080
    @tempest1080 2 місяці тому

    The belt does not need to be re-tensioned every time that the rear wheel is removed. You are creating unnecessary work for yourself if you start messing with the belt tension. This is covered in Priority's flat repair video for the bike: ua-cam.com/video/9MV9cyW5x50/v-deo.html The Gates app can be tricky to use in a loud environment, but has worked fine for me.

    Bikes are in rapid transition now and new tech is a really bad investment. The old inexpensive drives are very reliable and work much better than I would have thought. I have several bikes, and if the drives are maintained they do great.

    2:58 what conditions will stop a chain but not a belt? That's simply a goofy claim to make.

    Thanks for the honest review. Though, I haven't ever had a flat tire that wasn't related to me letting the sealant dry out.

  • @robertmoore119
    @robertmoore119 2 місяці тому

    I think at this point, traditional chains are better. I also think belts might actually work really well. They would be very quiet. They would also be light. If the pulleys are straight, the belt doesn't need pulley guides. If there is mud, pulley guides would help.

      I'm really interested to see how belt drive systems are going to be re-engineered to be better. I think we are seeing just the beginning of these systems.

  • @jgreenjeans
    @jgreenjeans 2 місяці тому

    That was eye opening. I have a belt drive Trek Soho that I really like for the lack of having to clean and lubricate a chain and its whisper quiet operation. I have Continental Gatorskin Hardshell 32mm and have never had a flat (no goat heads here). I have had to remove the rear wheel but it wasn't bad getting tension correct. I can see if it was multiple times in one ride it would be a pain. I'm still considering a Rolhoff or Pinion belt system for an expedition buke build, but appreciate hearing some downsides. Thanks

    • @smileyoutdoors4872
      @smileyoutdoors4872 2 місяці тому

      Beautiful bike! Let me know how the Rolhoff goes if you go that route. If your going for an expedition bike in Colorado just consider going with additional puncture resistance and sealant for a bike that can handle anything .
