Sis you really have to remove the driveshaft?
thank you for this historical document :)
Nice but captions are NEEDED- cant hear most of talk. there is no 'S" in anyway!
great video, one of the better ones showing proper tow sling!
Thank u for the video are u in seattle
We are located just north of Seattle. This tow was in Kirkland.
@@towtrkdug45 that's awesome keep up the good work
Thank you very much for explaining to all of us some of the towing tricks! That are very helpful to know!! From San Francisco California
Where did you connect under the truck? Axle, leaf springs or frame? Curious what are acceptable areas.
Why use this method over axle forks? drove a tow truck for 5 years and was under the impression slings are an outdated method of towing.
They are a very outdated method
Sling tow trucks are a joke only for scrap cars
Could do that… or just call a flat bed if you’re lazy 😆
Josh relax that car is made for that
The look on Casey and Josh’s faces get me every time!! ESP Casey’s! 🤣🤣🤣
That particular truck is classified as a 3500 1 ton. Its just an HD which has a slightly beefier frame and a solid I beam front axle. Being its a single cab with a flatbed with side stakes isn't really all that much different from a crew cab with a dually bed. Not sure what motor it has though. Could be a 6.5L diesel, 454 or big block 350.
No it is not a one ton. A one ton is a 3500 (16" wheels). A HD3500, which is equivalent to the Dodge 4500 and the Ford F450 is a 1.5 ton 19.5" wheels).
Either Phil is looking down pissed at Josh for letting Casey drive his car or he’s looking down happy at Josh for keeping his memory alive
Take your buddy's car out like that.. ballsy but stupid, I don't blame him though.
ahahah sent this exact same clip to my buddy when i seen this episode
damn man that had to hurt...
Your actually supposed to release the pins on the sling bars and extend them when you lift it it will tighten the chains then lock the pins not move your tow truck or roll the vehicle back to tighten the chains also carry old sling straps to help protect bumber from short chaining
Yes, that is another way that accomplishes the same result. It's not a "supposed to" thing. The procedure you mentioned above is great to use everytime you unload so your chains loosen for removal.
@HiThere..You are totally correct. As they draw in it allows placement of a 4X4 or 6X6 accurately. Because you cannnot always get a straight on lift they also allow centering the sling on the bumper before lifting. Loading at an angle is a real world scenario. Absolutely a must when using TA 105 bars with adjustable support bar and risers when towing exotics. Take care.
Not going to lie, cried a bit when my first truck left my neighborhood without me driving.

Nice video boss. I don’t have the rubber boom I have the metal one with rubber rings last night I towed a f650 with my 892 and man it felt so good to use the boom my truck was pooling like it was a car I love the wrecker much better then my flat bed tbh
You ever thought about removing the governer?
great info on the short chain method. not one I knew.
you are the man, this is real educational
Been about 4 years since I sling towed thanks for the refresher course
A good set up, one suggestion I would recommend is to carry two pieces of old heater hose about 6” long sliced vertically to slip over the chain that touches the bumper. It will prevent scratches on the bumper face. I also used 6” x 6” lumber instead of 4” x 4”.
Thanks from Pears Auto and Towing in Western Pa......
I gotta say good video vary informative I'd say I'm ready to try our sling out.
Same way my father thaught me
Why counldnt you just use the wheel lift?? Does it not extend out far enough?
Of course it extends long enough ... : / 1) Had been waiting for an opportunity to use the sling to film it for a friend that asked me to that works for another tow company anyways, so this was a good one to do that with. 2) Wheel was full turned locked and no key was left, so not the best to wheel lift with full turn anyways, though it can be done, just hard on your pans and the towed vehicles front end parts as it bounces and applies stresses. (had I had keys, I would have straightened wheel and sling towed it from the rear so I would not have had to pull the driveline as I did on this tow) 3) The more you tow heavy stuff with the sling, the less undue wear and tear on your wheel lift pivot, which will in the long run last longer, and the better you will get at sling towing for when you have to use it. 4) More front end steering and braking weight on my tow trucks front axle so in case of the need to panic stop. Think of carrying a brick in your hand right up by your shoulder, compared to carrying the same brick with your arm extended, quite a difference in stresses to your arm and shoulder, same on your truck and frame. Thanks for asking. Be safe.
Sling tow for heavy and wheel lift for light got it!
It has to do with the center of gravity of the tow truck, lifting on the wheel lift the center of gravity is over the rear wheels. On the sling the center of gravity is just behind the cab. The steering wheels have better weight on them with the sling, therefore better control and safety.
It opens in 4 years
Nice video!!!!!!!!
This can’t open soon enough! What a lifesaver this will be from that I5 mess
I am impressed as i actually own the same make and model truck except mine has a aftermarket conversion on it that added fiberglass airdam and other ground affects, my tow company always put it on a rollback but the. Rear wheels. Had to ride the rails on the Chevron Platforms so they. Always double strapped. Her down i dont think the 4x4 would had worked. On mine and i was. Always with the truck. So i could. Turn the wheels however they. Wanted for a wheel lift if thats all they had available BTW the owne of the tow company has been a freind of mine for years and actually owns the same truck. As his personal vehicle without the conversion package and often he sends one of his drivers. To get mine. So he plays it safe for liability purposes 1 because he knows i take good care of my truck and 2 because some of his employees are not that careful so to avoid any trouble he makes it easy on the. Operators
Great video. Cheers from a junior operator.
Nice
I do remember that one
