Wendy Poole the Dressmaker | Hello, Welcome and Introduction to my Sewing and Dressmaking Channel
Переглядів 1,4 тис.3 місяці тому
Hello and welcome to my UA-cam Channel all about dressmaking and sewing. #dressmaking #sewing #introduction #introvideo #newchannel I’ve been a dressmaker most of my adult life and decided to start this channel so that I can share my dressmaking makes, pattern reviews, fabric inspiration, plus some tips and techniques and generally share the love of dressmaking and sewing clothes! Although this...
I love the puffy sleeves. Looks great on you.
Really nice makes! What kind of machine were you making the curtains on?
I just caught up on all your videos. They are very informative. I love how you honestly review each pattern. I love the nell dress and have the pattern myself. I’m interested to see what you decide to use for fabric in the winter for this dress or other dresses. Enjoy your day I’m currently working on my second Meadow skirt.
Lovely video and your pronunciation is perfect ☘️
I love the multi colored shirt in the background
Subscribed, hit the notification bell and liked the video. Looking forward to more of your makes. Hi from the USA. Excited to follow along…. I look forward to more inspiration from you. Thanks so much!
❤
Hi Wendy. Love your makes. Just followed your daughter on Instagram. Thank you. Looking forward to your tutorial on invisible zips 😊
OMG, what fabulous sewing. Thanks for your tips and tricks. A pleasure to watch. Am watching from Cork, Ireland and yes your pronunciation on Niamh was spot on. 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Thank you so much!
Your sewing and fabrics are beautiful. The skirt is fabulous, pattern/material are perfect together.
You have been busy, love all your makes, very fancy pjs. I’ve just cut a dress out in Crafty Pies rainbow gingham, hope it doesn’t look like pjs when finished it 🤦♀️😂. It’s lovely that your daughter shares your joy of sewing, my daughter is just getting back in to sewing after being put off at school.
Love all your makes. Can I ask what sewing machine do you use please. Thanks
I have a Juki DS5 as my main machine and a Brother Embroidery/sewing machine I use sometimes.
Great makes. Love the pjs. The curtain fabric is fabulous. Noodlehead have some great bag patterns.
Oh thank you!
Thanks so much, Wendy! You have great taste (similar to mine, so of course it has to be good…..!)
Thank you Wendy for a lovely lot of ideas, they do look great on you and really nice curtains too its good to make your own as I do to, look forward to your next video on trousers. Enjoy your garden ❤😊🎉
All beautiful makes that look great on you. Turning the shirt into pyjamas was genius! They are so pretty and a bit more interesting in shape than standard ones. Thank you for being so generous and giving us the benefit of your experience with your tips on how to make the designs a bit more wearable and long lasting.
Hi Wendy, your fleur dress is a real winner. I hadn't seen the niamh skirt before and looks lovely too. How lovely that your daughter sews and you can twin lol. My daughter is not at all interested, which is a shame. You must be a very skilled seamstress so I wondered if you have ever draughted your own patterns?
I so look forward to your videos Wendy - thank you 😊 You are really prolific with your sewing- I must really get on with mine!
Love all your makes
Your dress looks fabulous.
You are pronouncing Niamh correctly. Irish names are so difficult! Love all your makes, look forward to seeing how you make your curtains in that fabulous fabric!
Oh thank you!
So glad I found this video. I’m literally in the process of hemming my Nell dress and when I’ve tried it on it seems so big and unflattering so I’m in the process of adding waist ties! What a great idea. Also agree with you about the buttons, I have done the button holes and buttons and luckily they turned out ok but I can easily get it on over my head so in my next version I’ll do faux buttonholes!!
Thank you. The waist ties make such a difference don’t they. It made quite a difference to mine when I added them.😁
Your various Nell blouses and dress are all beautiful! I like your idea for altering the width at the waist and adding waist ties to the dress. I’m currently making the Nell Dress.
Thank you so much and enjoy making yours too!😁
I’m so enjoying your video channels Wendy. I’ve just ordered this pattern to try for our upcoming spring/summer xx
Gorgeous makes. I love the rainbow gingham! Happy new subscriber here!
Thanks and 🤗
Such lovely makes very pretty 😊😊
Thanks so much 😊
What is the difference between a popper and a snap? Haven’t heard of poppers in the US.
@@delpha2419 Hiya, I hadn’t thought of it this way and they’re very similar. In the UK what I mean is that a “popper” could also be a press stud or a snap fastener. (I may have been using old fashioned terminology). So it would be 2 interlocking discs, made out of plastic or metal that are sewn into place, then snap together when one side is pushed into the other. Or they can be like jeans fasteners, where there is no sewing involved and a small gadget is used to attach them to the fabric.
Thank you, really enjoyed your pattern review I shall be getting the pattern and have a go making this dress. 😊👍
You’re welcome 😊
Your versions are all lovely, might have to get this pattern. I did go ahead and get the pattern and am currently trying to get it out of 1 metre of the rainbow gingham of your last version
Your versions are gorgeous. I have made the blouse and then modified the fit for me and made a dress. I think the fabric I chose isn’t as successful as your viscose versions (I used cottons). I notice that your cotton version also sits a touch away from your body like mine, so I know now that it is the fabric. I’m going to try a viscose version next as I think I’ll much prefer that. I was going to try ties on the waist, so your hunt is really useful. Thank you. I fancy mashing the Fleur and Nell together as I love elements of each of them.
That’s a great idea, I think I prefer both in a more floaty fabric, as for me it’s more flattering.😁
Thankyou ..I would be nervous about button holes so going to get. You could also adjust pattern by overlap at front so have seam there ..might need pattern matching .. anyway I need dress pattern so will get this one ..
Great idea!
❤
Loved this. All made beautifully, thanks for the ideas.
You are so welcome!🤗
I love all your versions and found your adjustments for the back really helpful as I’m 5ft 4” too. I love your side vent on the gingham version. I really hope to make one soon. I’d be interested to know how you’d compare the peplum Nell to the Fleur blouse as they are very similar even though there are some differences.
Thank you, although the peplums are very similar- I made the Fleur top using a double gauze which is more bulky than the gingham viscose, so they look quite different. But with either of them if I was making the top again with a structured fabric - I’d put less fullness in the peplum. But if I using a viscose, I’d keep it the same. 😁
As you can see all of your versions are good. Do they have any bust darts in them?❤
Thank you and yes, although it doesn’t notice in the photos, they do all have a bust dart in the bodice. 😃
Great vlog Wendy, your versions look great. As another shorter person it’s so useful to hear your fit adjustments , thank you. I’ve been considering this pattern and you’ve convinced me 😊
Thankyou so much 😊
Wow, yours look really fab . Im Currently working on my Nell shirt but I'm losing hope that it will turn out OK as even though I measure myself and look at the garment measurements and finished measurements Tilly and the Buttons patterns always end up being really big and baggy 😢
Thank you and hope you’re went well for you.🤗
love all your versions, and also the autumn fabrics for your next planned makes.
You showed up on my feed so that’s a plus. Enjoyed your video. You spoke about a petite adjustment, would you share how to do that? And maybe other pattern adjustments. Also will you be sharing any sewing techniques, that would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you for watching and your lovely comments and yes, I’ll gradually be including all of those things as I go along.😀
I’m really enjoying your podcast, thank you so much! I’ll give the Tony shirt a try for husband, son and son in laws, I do already have the wardrobe by me tropical shirt pattern, but I haven’t used it yet and as you recommend the Tony, I’d rather go with that. Thanks again! Karen x
Thank you for your lovely comments and enjoy making the Tony shirt, I found it a straightforward and enjoyable make.😀
Just binged watch your videos after watching what Bec sews , really enjoyed them and your makes , so interesting and professionally done 👌
Thank you so much! And glad you liked them.😀
Loved the vlod. I do sew but not as much as I would like.
Thank-you for watching and glad you liked it. 😀
Can you give us a video wrt a full bust adjustment? I love your vlogs!
Yes I will, it’s on the list of things to cover as I go along.😀
Great makes,great vlog
Thank you and glad you enjoyed it.😊
Great vlog, just found you. Hi from Jersey Channel Islands. Love your makes and future plans.
Thanks so much! 😊
Ooh Wendy, just discovered your channel ( What Beck Sews). I love your makes, you are on the same vibe as me! Your Nell dress will be amazing, are you making the pouffy sleeves? Gorgeous fabrics!
A bit late I know, but just catching up and thank you soo much!😍😘

Oh thank you!
I’ve never made a shirt before so I may well look into getting the Tony shirt. What is the fit like in the body as my husband likes a slim fit, but he has quite broad shoulders. Love your Fleur blouse xx
I personally thought the fit was good, not tailored like a slim fitting formal shirt, but just a nicely fitting casual shirt that wasn’t oversized. I’d measure the shoulder width on one of his shirts that already fits well and just grade out to that size across the shoulders. Hope that helps.😀
@@WendyPooleTheDressmaker thank you, that’s great xx
Hi Wendy, first time watching your vlog and I really enjoyed it. Love both of your Patina blouses, a pattern that is on my to-do list. Will be interested to see how you get on with your new dress form xx
Oh thank you for your lovely comments and yes, I’ll be trying out on a jumpsuit and trousers very soon. 😀
