Actually it was informational. And it looks like you went to Publix. I'm just basing that on the green writing on the bags. Nothing really happened here. The power didn't go out which was kind of amazing. There was a bunch of tree debris in the yard but not tons of it. There wasn't any damage. Well like I said I can't remember anymore when Dennis had to go up and fix the shingles back on the roof or whatever it was he did. And then the hurricane jumped from the Pacific to the Gulf. Or maybe the Caribbean I don't know. I've never seen that happen but I've only been here for 23 years. And pretty much all of the storms that didn't affect us mostly get wiped from memory. Except maybe Ian. I have a friend in Sarasota who had a tree come through her window. And she has enormous trees with enormous branches that keep coming down. Maybe not so much anymore. And also no insurance, because nobody can afford it. I thought it was just us. Some people dream of going to Paris. I dream of owning a generator...

I never thought to look at Reddit. Next time. So happy that the last one didn't come for us. What was it? Sara? It kept going around in twisty little circles But it finally fizzled and died. Thankfully. And then we had "winter." And I guess this week we'll have Florida. I have a cartoon that I saved and I scanned and it's from 1985. And it's from Boston. And I used to work near the John Hancock Tower. I was once on the 11:00 news flying across the street. I was running because I was 105 lb and the wind was really strong because of the towers and the ground was covered with ice and Trinity plaza didn't have anything to grab onto and there was no traction. So I made the news. Unfortunately it was 1981 and I heard about it the next morning. It wouldn't have occurred to me to watch the news and nobody had VCRs. I mean they did exist but I didn't know anyone who had one. And who would have taped the 11:00 news? But back to the original story - it was a cartoon and this woman was hanging on to a post and sort of flying sideways and all these things were flying past her and the text said What is this? Hurricane Gloria? A typical windy day at the John Hancock Tower? I can relate. Those towers cause wind tunnels. One time we were up on the 14th floor of the old John Hancock Tower and there were papers flying up from the street outside our windows. Gloria was my first hurricane. I lived in a room in a house in Waltham and I didn't have anybody to ask what I should do. Nothing really happened. I finished packing my suitcase for Colorado. The power went out around 6:00 p.m. and when I got up the next morning it was back. We went to church - after one of the deacons called and asked if we had power - and then we went to the airport and we didn't get to Colorado until like 2:00 in the morning and it was snowing. And my wonderful Boston boots were at home because they didn't fit in the suitcase. And our little hotel room in Denver hadn't switched from heat to air conditioning. But at least I had pajamas. My friend couldn't find her suitcase. So I loaned her a T-shirt. And I guess we went back to the airport the next morning to get her suitcase and then we drove to Vail. Still snowy. Needed to buy some real shoes. Didn't even have a credit card back then so I asked my friend if I could put the shoes on her credit card. They were $45. And then I paid her back when I got home. And we took pictures of the shoes because why not? But at least I had something a little better than corduroy espadrilles. And my boots never did fit in the suitcase. Sometimes I would wear them on the plane but then my feet got all hot and sweaty and itchy and it wasn't good. I kept them until they were 20 years old and they leaked and we had to put men's galoshes on the bottoms so that the water wouldn't get in. But they were warm...

I remember that was the site my brother was watching when he thought that Milton was coming on Tuesday. I wish he had told me. Because I knew it was coming on Wednesday. Oops. It really did work out okay though. Hotels are expensive. Sleeping on a queen size mattress on the floor of an empty house of a person that you've never met in a place you've never been, is very last minute, but significantly less expensive. The hotel was nice. There were a lot of dogs there. I'm allergic to dogs. But I didn't hang out in the hallways or the lobby so I didn't encounter too many of them.)

You looked outside your apartment and I saw that crane and I was like oh! But I started with part two before I decided to come back and start here. So I guess there wasn't any problem with the crane. Good news. I guess I could add that to list of things that I am anxious about but honestly what are the chances there is going to be a crane in my little suburban neighborhood? And I'm very thankful aren't any rivers around here. I seem to remember friend maybe from Polk County who had 17 day power outage after Irma. Is that even real? Anyway wherever she was, they had a river. And yeah it was in Florida not North Carolina. It took a couple days to hear about North Carolina but I have a friend who lives somewhere in North Carolina. Not on the coast and apparently not in the mountains. But she was gathering up supplies And her daughter had made contact with some people in little towns that I had never heard of in my life. And I was trying to explain to someone from Pittsburgh why they were using mules and not drones... As if I actually knew.

I started with your Milton video but I decided I should back up and start with Helene. Whenever I watch these things I always wonder where the person is and in the case of the last one I watched What day is it? We live in a non-evac zone, And we never leave. We can never afford to leave. We never have any reason to leave except for the power outages which are getting a little bit old. But in 2004 we had four of them in 6 weeks and some other things happened also. We didn't have any damage. We had one four-day power outage at home and one four-day power outage at work - Kamikaze squirrel. We had to wait to get it fixed because obviously between Charlie Francis Ivan and Jean, none of them are spelled right, We had all of our electric people off somewhere fixing someone who was far higher on the critical list of whichever hurricane it was. And when we had the squirrel. I can't even remember which hurricane it was. So they were off tending two people who needed it more than we did. And we were at work where the computers were working and the phones were working and the air conditioning was not working and we did 4 days of that. Could have been worse but after the first one it wasn't you know too much fun. It was like the first time I wasn't freezing at work. Which was great for the first day. Then my mother died the day after Irma and then we had Jean. The one that took out our power wasn't even a hurricane it was a tropical storm. Frances. 4 days. And one of those days we had to take our mother to the hospital but at least in the ER waiting room they had power. It was so exciting to have lights and television and air conditioning! And then I went back home. And then really the next big deal was Irma. The power was out for 3 days. My car was dead. My roommate went to work and my brother had power at his house so both of them just took off and left me here. Fun. At least I didn't have to do anything but lie around sweating and read a book. I would love to say that this house could use more windows. But really, it's really better to have fewer windows for things to come flying through. We didn't have any damage and we didn't even lose any food. And one year there was Debbie the other one the first Debbie. I don't remember it that much. It rained a lot. Up in Pasco County it flooded really badly and everybody at my temp job, from Pasco County was released to go home and deal with the flooding. And then this year I think Debbie rained a lot. But maybe that was Helene. Maybe it was both of them. We went out to the porch where it was leaking and we found that we have a cooler out there and it was completely full of water so my brother bailed it out with the bucket. And then I think the next day my roommate went up on the roof and fixed some of the leaks but we had some new ones. Honestly I can't remember which hurricane that was. And there were a lot of tornado warnings with Debbie. But nothing happened here. So by Helene it was just okay, round two. And then came Milton. Maybe I should stay out of those Denis Phillips live chats But he did mention evacuating for comfort. Because it looked like it was coming and he expected the power outages would last longer - I think it was 4 days actually when I counted it afterwards. And I really thought it was going to be hotter. And then the next morning it was Monday and he was like oh look it's a category 5 and it's headed for us. He seemed a bit concerned. Like now is the time that we dig in and stay here for our neighbors and our community and our family and we do it needs to be done and things like that. And I grabbed my brother and I said clean out your car. And we ended up in Wesley Chapel. On Monday afternoon. With only a two-day reservation. And we got there and my brother looked at the forecast and discovered the hurricane was coming on Wednesday. Well I told him to watch and pay attention and I gave him a video and I gave him a timestamp and all he had to do was watch it. Wesley Chapel is nice. I've never been there. I've never been anywhere. Went to myakka City to buy some ducks a couple of years ago. Went to New Port Richey to sell some ducks actually just one. I'm from Boston. When we have hurricanes the power is out for 12 hours or 6 hours. That's how we managed to miss the fall of the Soviet Union actually. I was seriously wondering how we could have missed that so I said I wonder when hurricane Bob was. Yep that was it. So we had to leave this hotel we were in on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. thankfully somebody offered us to stay in their house which they had moved out of. It's really hard to find a place to put me because I'm allergic to every pet that has ever been devised. Well okay not fish. My brother asked if I was allergic to fish and I was like well no but I really don't like fish and he said no pet fish. I'm not going to punctuate here much. And I was like oh no I'm not allergic to pet fish. Cats dogs bunnies birds. I have ducks. I used to have one in the house. 9 years. I was not allergic to her. So we spend a few days in this really big house and we spent 3 hours in a gas line after the storm but somebody bought all the gas by the time we got there and the next day we went to Costco where we managed to get gas and lose the credit cards. Which we didn't recognize for a while and then thankfully we decided to go back there and check and they had them. It's been how many weeks? And it hasn't rained. And we don't know if we have any more leaks in the roof because it hasn't rained. The trees are thinner but they didn't fall through the roof or anything. We lost a lot of food. And we're still waiting to see whether our roof leaks. But I kept wondering what was going on here while we were gone So I keep watching videos. And it keeps me from watching politics. A storm that is over, at least for us...
