Thank you for such a clear vision of Spanish Reconquista. However, the muslim rule over spanish territories and Cristian people was never gentle, and often cruel. You should mention it aswell

They skipped over Hannibal’s massive victory at Lake Trasimene where Hannibal’s skirmishers led the Romans around a foggy lake edge into a devastating trap annihilating the Romans. Hannibal’s weakness was not his strategy, but his supply lines and lack of support. Hannibal’s had hoped that Carthage would supply him with fresh troops and supplies, it did not. Presumably because of the Roman Navy. Hannibal had also hoped that local Italian cities would rebel and join him. They did not. Hannibal decided that assaulting Rome directly would be a siege that would destroy his remaining forces after so many big victories. Hannibal spent years waiting for conditions to improve doing gorilla tactics in Southern Italy and the Romans stopped attacking him. Only when Scipio Africanus destroyed Carthaginian forces in Hispanics, killed Hannibal’s brother and invaded Carthage directly did Hannibal ultimately leave Italy to confront Scipio and the Roman forces in Carthage. Scipio studied the terrain and Hannibal’s tactics. And it was Scipio’s genius of using fire to scare the elephants and send the animals into a mad crazy back into the Carthaginian forces that ultimately caused their doom.

Self-interest is always the problem. No one wins a conflict. Man's purpose is peace. Just think of a world where balance is the guiding principle.

It's funny how you can change brutal levels of misogynistic violence, cannibalism and constant intertribal war into "thriving" by just adding the word "indigenous"...

Australia's indigenous culture and it's longevity is a bit like the crowd at the Woodstock music festival. With each passing year, the crowd gets bigger and bigger. While nobody knows with any accuracy how many people were at Woodstock, so too does nobody know when Aborigines first arrived on the Australian mainland. Originally, Woodstock was said to have attracted about 250,000 to 300,000 people, at a guess! These days it's sometimes sited as being over 450,000! At this rate it should hit half a million soon and then it should be safe for me to claim I was there too! When I first heard of the "experts" sounding forth on just how long Aboriginal culture, the number of years being bandied around was somewhere around forty thousand. A pretty good 'guestimation' for a people who left no written records, no long standing buildings or even ruins of them and most of the tools were made out of organic materials that have the unfortunate habits of rotting away, burning away, wearing away or floating away. It's barely a thousand years since the heyday of the Vikings, yet those who study such things are often frustrated by how little the men of the north actually recorded of their culture and their activities. Yet, in this country, we now have people of dubious qualifications asserting that a people who couldn't even conceive the idea of a wheel, occupied this land for 65,000 years! Turn it up - you'll tell me the Beatles are planning a re-union next!
