Yume 2kki Analysis
Released in 2007 walking simulator Yume 2kki is getting updated with new locations up to this day. In this video I'll try to explain why the game has not stopped being relevant and seems to get lots of new players despite it's age and odd gameplay.

Hylics is an experimental RPG-Maker game created by Mason Lindroth and seemingly inspired by Space Funeral. Very well-known and loved by the community it left me with some conflicting thoughts. Exceeding in some aspects and dropping the ball in others Hylics definitely provides a unique experience that I'm going to explore and analyze in detail in this review. I really see very little news about the new yume2kki and everything that is said here makes me feel nostalgic for the old versions of the game, now in the nexus you can even get a little lost... Regarding the difficulty of some events, it’s right on point! I can’t complete one event for the 2nd day and they give me a badge for it, I think they also add some meaning to the game like scout battle patches, it’s fun

    Space Funeral, it's definitely a short game with some flaws, sure, but it's also a brilliant game with excellent writing, story and messaging. Something I'm not sure a lot of people notice about it is that it seems to be an RPG in reverse, if you look at the boss order minus MOON. You first (optionally) fight a dragon, a cave ghoul, a mob boss and then a runaway prince. Put those in reverse and that kinda sounds like a typical rpg journey! It's still my favorite RPGMaker game ever, more than other greats like LISA or Jimmy and the Pulsating Mass (the latter I do deeply enjoy, don't get me wrong).

    • @scatlinksean
      @scatlinksean 11 годин тому

      I think that's because you typically start at the center of the world, that being a castle or its town (Cornelia in FF1, for example). Since you're starting out elsewhere, you're making your way to the center which means fighting the enemies in reverse.

  • @CasperTheRestless

    I would argue that the ending of the remake is more is the sun worth it to replace. You have gotten to know more about this world and its inhabitants, but will putting back the sun really save the world? It might give it a few more years yes, but is Niko's future worth completely rewriting for a few more years?

    • @playplaint
      @playplaint 8 місяців тому

      The problem with discussing what is the best choice to pick at end of each game (without knowing what happens in Solstice DLC) is the intentional ambiguity of several things. -We don't really know what happens to Niko if sun is returned. -We don't really know what happens to Niko if sun isn't returned. -We don't really know whether the in-game world has the chance at being restored or not after sun is returned. (Maybe the squares go away after some time) -We don't really know who is lying, the Entity or the Author or maybe both. The ambiguity is probably left on purpose by the developers, so there's no one clear logical choice at the end of the game and you have to make a decision mostly with your feelings. And to bring it back to your point. Different players make their decision at the end. But assuming we don't really know what happens to Niko after either of the choices, more interactions and longer conversations with characters in the remake help to feel MORE invested in the outcome of the in-game world than in original game.

    • @playplaint
      @playplaint 8 місяців тому

      Maybe but I feel like developer couldn't decide what direction game should follow. Seemed to me like in some aspects game was trying to get away from jrpg conventions and in other fully embracing them. But now we're in subjective interpretation territory, I can't say that you're wrong, it's just how the playthrough felt to me.

    I do agree with a lot of things said in the video but in my honest opinion hidden dream or whatever its name is the map that is super hard to reach, is just a not fun map in the game because the developer keeps changing the way to get there because he dosent like if people figure it out...that work he puts into changing the how to get there coud easily be put into maybe making other maps or working on his alredy in the game maps and not on making sure no one can tell online how to get to a map and getting salty over if that is said online

    • @playplaint
      @playplaint 8 місяців тому

      I think some developers wish they could create content in the environment without easily accessible guides, like back in the day, so the secrets in the game are still secrets for the majority of the players. Asking to not publish information about certain maps is probably the only way to do so now. At the end of the day all the developer really wants is for players to experience the game the intended way.

    Another thing. The freeware version is just a bunch of scripts and code snapped together into a big mess. The 2016 remake has been completely rescripted which means that elevators, doors, physics, and other stuff like that are all in their own modules. This means that if someone wanted to make their own map it would be so much easier than if they were going to do that in the freeware.

    100- I agree with this. I don’t know if it’s the case that players are saying that all authors should strive to create worlds like qxy or moriwo, however, I have seen a small minority of players say openly that certain authors are better, or that certain authors are “lazy” or “uncreative.” I take issue with this, as we don’t truly know the author’s situation. What if the world you don’t like was made by a young child learning digital art for the first time? What if they have an intellectual disability? Or, you know, they could be like me, which is a grown-a*s man who just really sucks at drawing. At the end of the day these are all working people that took time out of their day to create art for us with no monetary compensation, and deserve to be lauded as such. 200- It’s an interesting question, and it’s definitely one that 2kki devs have encountered before. There was an incident where an author added a low-fidelity map to one of Wataru’s highly detailed maps. As I understand it, other 2kki developers essentially forced the author to remove their map from that location, which led to that author becoming upset and leaving the project. It creates a difficult conundrum where, as a player, I don’t want Wataru’s maps to be soiled by a weaker map; but as I mentioned, 2kki is by nature a collaborative project, and this means appreciating and respecting others’ contributions regardless of their skill level. If Wataru himself requested that the map be removed, that would be a different story, but in general I really don’t think it’s moral for a world to be rejected for “low quality” if the world is in line with 2kki’s guidelines and the author of the connected world accepts it. I guess you could say that I’m an “open contribution extremist?” 300- I don’t realistically see this being a problem, although I do think that authors should try to focus on quality rather than quantity of worlds. Maybe there could be a limit to how many worlds an author can contribute within a certain time frame (e.g. maximum 10 MAP IDs per month)? 400- The issue with puzzle-focused worlds in 2kki is that the vast majority of them end up being like “equip one of the 25 effects in this specific spot” which most people are not going to have the patience or will just consult the wiki, which negates the point of having a puzzle in the first place. Puzzles need to be designed in such a way that facilitates intrigue and increases the sense of exploration, rather than being a roadblock to it. This usually means forgoing the effects altogether and instead having the player interact with different objects/npc’s, learning how to navigate a complex environment and keep providing interesting experiences throughout the puzzle, examples being Dark Warehouse or the Static Labyrinth. 500- One thing I find fascinating about this is that the obscurity of a world kind of “cancels out” by nature of the players’ interest. For example, if qxy or moriwo hid a beautiful world under a 1/1000 rng condition, people would likely flock to it regardless due to the popularity of those authors and thus it would cease to be an “obscure” world. The most obscure events in 2kki currently do not lead to particularly remarkable worlds, in fact, many do not lead to worlds at all. In this way, being able to experience the obscure event becomes the reward in itself rather than being able to see a beautiful world, which by nature restricts interest in the obscure event to a small minority of players. Anyway, I enjoyed this video a lot! It’s nice to see someone who appreciates this freeware game and all it’s intricacies as much as I do.

    • @playplaint
      @playplaint 10 місяців тому

      Wow, thanks for engaging with my talking points and for such thorough comment :0 I didn't know that someone tried to add a map to some of the Wataru's maps, I probably wasn't following the game when it happened. About puzzles, I might be wrong but I think the game was initially designed without guides being this easily available on the internet in mind. So part of the fun was supposed to be later discovering through some of the less obvious sources(like some videos or someone's comment) than literal step-by-step guides that some of the maps you've gone through had secrets. You know, like maybe it was supposed to be this big mysterious walking simulator with tons of secrets that are only known by people who went through the game files. If you approach it from that angle then very difficult unintuitive puzzles make more sense in a way that maybe you're not supposed to solve them unless you're willing to spend lots of time figuring them out. And yeah, I agree, environmental puzzles are very fun to encounter. And thanks for watching!
