Jose Ferrer as his best.
I remember reading this from Rostand's book. Believe it or not, we read this in our eighth grade "Great Books Club."
The movie happened to be shown on tv one Sunday in the 50s and our English teacher assigned it. Ferrer, of course. I was in love within 5 minutes. There is no other Cyrano like him, he backs up every word of the poetry with every fibre of his being.
At the end, he takes "I know you are but what am I" and makes it awesome.
