    Great piece! Sean, on our first year plants (Asclepias Incarnata / Swamp Milkweed), last summer in S. Wis. on an urban lot, we had a heavy infestation of "vampire" aphids at the top of the plants that were guarded 24/7 by one or two dark carpenter ants for days, maybe even weeks. What’s that all about?!!? Haven’t seen much of the orange aphids this year as of 8-9-2024, but it’s been a truly unusual summer in terms of overcast skies, odd, colder temperatures etc. Love what you do, THANKS! Scribed!

    To add to the invasive grasses discussion here, I want to mention that as a basket weaver, all of these grasses are a gold mine--I cut them back every year, dry them, and make coiled baskets with them (after rehydrating and mellowing) all year around here in Connecticut. I also keep garden sheers in my car so I can harvest anything I see on the edges of parking lots and other areas where they're clearly not cultivated by anyone!

    Agree this is my favorite plant. I garden in large part for the bees. Ive noticed the bees like the blue agastache much better than red or orange. Buy blue. Hyssop the most loved by bees.

    How is that lantana isn't known as a noxious weed in the US? Here in Australia, there's a continual battle to kill this prolific weed but the only natural killer is severe, prolonged frosts.

    • @TheGardenersCenter
      @TheGardenersCenter Місяць тому

      It's weedy here in the US, but only in the warmer, most southern parts of the country. Our long, cold winters keep it well behaved in the rest of the country.

    That’s interesting. I usually set mine in a bowl of water in the sink for a minute, let it soak up whatever it wants and then take it out and sit in the sink to drain for a few minutes before putting it back in its pot. Haven’t had any issues. When I had my last orchid I did it like you were showing and it ended up with shriveled leaves and ultimately died. Not saying you’re wrong or anything! Just sharing my experience.

    Great video - thank you! Last yr we planted a catmint container. AM sun, PM shade. It thrived! On hot afternoons a dear old neighborhood cat would curl up in it and nap. When hot temps were extreme my husband picked up the container- cat and all - and brought it into the kitchen. Sweet! This yr we’re growing another container just for the cat. ❤
