Xmas Lights 2021
Here are my Christmas lights this year. I added three new modes- Slinky, Orbitz and Sierpinski Tree, and I kept some modes from last year. The setup is the same as the last couple of years- a 48 by 48 array of addressable LEDs driven by an Arduino Mega.

Making an STL file from scratch.
Переглядів 7 тис.3 роки тому
Here I show how to create an stl file (a file that determines a 3d shape) directly. Normally, you export your 3d object from your CAD program as an intermediate step between design and printing or design and sharing. However, using any programming language that can write a text file, you can generate an stl directly. The video is long so I've divided it into chapters to help you skip around. 00...
Quick recursion example in OpenScad.
Переглядів 3543 роки тому
Here I give a simple introductory example of how recursion works using OpenScad. I also sketch how I used recursion in making the Koch snowflake cup from the last video. I don't know if I'm the only one who likes OpenScad, but I find it easy to use for certain things. Clearly, something like Fusion 360 is a much more powerful tool, but I wouldn't know where to begin to do recursion like this in...
3D Printed Koch Snowflake Cup
Переглядів 1803 роки тому
Here I talk about a fractal inspired object I 3D printed, the Koch Snowflake and some of its properties. Every time I print something, it's a learning process and I'm going to try to document what I used to help solidify it in my own head and maybe to help people who stumble across the video.

Colonia Jardin La Fortuna Carabanchel Part 7
Переглядів 313 роки тому
This is the seventh part of a route that goes from Casa de Campo through Colonia Jardin to the trails between the military bases and Ciudad del Imagen. We then pass through Parque Presillas to La Fortuna, Carabanchel Alto and Aluche. In this video I obsess over an auditorium in Aluche with negative Gaussian curvature and make some ruled surfaces out of 3d printed parts and a bunch of pencils.

Testing out a new "action camera" and playing with some free video editing software. I know it's a bad video.
10 years late but damn, this is cool!
what is the load capacity? how much could this lift?
thanks for sharing
looks complicated... see ya.
It's high school geometry. I thought I'd need fancy software to design this simple part I need, and after watching this single video, I realized that STL is trivial enough that I'll be able to create the file by hand, with Notepad and maybe a spreadsheet.
Nice!! I love the slinky one. I still have one, got it as a Christmas present 2 years ago :). I like the colors in Orbitz too. Oooh I love the Sierpinski ones! Nice work!
cool
Hello. And what other elements can be created by writing coordinates? I need to build a surface so that I can load it into AVEVA E3D.
Cool stuff! For the second display, the loops, had you kept lights on similar to wreath drawing, reminds me of another 80’s toy Spirograph.
I wasn't sure the world was ready for full on Spirograph action. But maybe it's time...
I love it
This is a very informative video and I used it as guide for the tutorial I made in my second channel. I have one issue when it comes to STL and any other format for that matter; how do you write an STL for a point cloud object? I have been able to do it for structured objects, but I can't decipher the programming for unstructured ones.
int numpoints; float multip; void setup() { numpoints=200; // el numero de puntos en el circulo multip=4; // multip = 2 nos da un cardioide, prueba otros valores size(1000, 1000); frameRate(10); noLoop(); // pon "//" delante de noLoop() para animar el imagen } void draw() { background(0); translate(width/2, height/2); for (int i =0; i<numpoints; i++) { drawpoint(i); // poner un punto azul en el circulo y //labelpoint(i); // etiquetarlo con un numero, pon "//" delante para quitar float x1 = 300*cos(i*TWO_PI/numpoints); // (x1,y1) son las coordinadas de i float y1 = 300*sin(i*TWO_PI/numpoints); // en el circulo (o 'reloj') float j = (multip*i)%numpoints; // j es (i*multip) mod numpoints float x2 = 300*cos(j*TWO_PI/numpoints); // (x2,y2) son las coordinadas de j float y2 = 300*sin(j*TWO_PI/numpoints); // en el circulo (o 'reloj') stroke(254, 152, 0); strokeWeight(1); line(x1, y1, x2, y2); // dibujar una recta entre i y j en el circulo } multip=multip+0.05; // en lugar de 0.05, prueba otros valores // y nota como cambia la animacion //println(multip); } void drawpoint(int i) { float x1 = 300*cos(i*TWO_PI/numpoints); float y1 = 300*sin(i*TWO_PI/numpoints); stroke(50, 110, 200); fill(50, 110, 200); ellipse(x1, y1, 5, 5); } void labelpoint(int i) { float x3 = (300+16)*cos(i*TWO_PI/numpoints); float y3 = (300+16)*sin(i*TWO_PI/numpoints); stroke(50, 110, 200); fill(50, 110, 200); textAlign(CENTER); text(i, x3, y3); }
It is the first video I have watched until now that elaborates on this issue, I appreciate that. Could you also please explain how to create a binary .stl file from scratch or how to read it with a text editor that deciphers binary format? Many thanks in advance!
Code included in the video: PrintWriter output; void setup() { noLoop(); output = createWriter("Parabolic.stl"); } void draw() { output.println("solid chris"); drawParabolic(); output.println("endsolid"); output.flush(); output.close(); } void drawParabolic() { float flt; float rstep; float tstep; rstep=0.1; tstep=0.05; flt = 0.25; for (float r=0; r<=2; r=r+rstep) { for (float t=0; t<=2*3.14159; t=t+tstep) { output.println("facet normal 0 0 0"); output.println("outer loop"); output.println("vertex "+r*cos(t)+" "+r*sin(t)+" "+flt*r*r); output.println("vertex "+(r+rstep)*cos(t)+" "+(r+rstep)*sin(t)+" "+flt*(r+rstep)*(r+rstep)); output.println("vertex "+(r+rstep)*cos(t+tstep)+" "+(r+rstep)*sin(t+tstep)+" "+flt*(r+rstep)*(r+rstep)); output.println("endloop"); output.println("endfacet"); output.println("facet normal 0 0 0"); output.println("outer loop"); output.println("vertex "+r*cos(t)+" "+r*sin(t)+" "+flt*r*r); output.println("vertex "+(r)*cos(t+tstep)+" "+(r)*sin(t+tstep)+" "+flt*r*r); output.println("vertex "+(r+rstep)*cos(t+tstep)+" "+(r+rstep)*sin(t+tstep)+" "+flt*(r+rstep)*(r+rstep)); output.println("endloop"); output.println("endfacet"); } } }
Could you do a sulky and a horse. Ihave the 2d picture on the horse and sulky. If you can, how much do you want
Here's the the OpenScad code used in this video: cornercube(0,0,0,100); module cornercube(x,y,z,sz){ translate([x,y,z]){ cube(sz,center=true); } if (sz>=4){ cornercube(x+sz/2,y+sz/2,z+sz/2,sz/2); cornercube(x-sz/2,y+sz/2,z+sz/2,sz/2); cornercube(x-sz/2,y-sz/2,z+sz/2,sz/2); cornercube(x+sz/2,y-sz/2,z+sz/2,sz/2); } }
Me encantan tus vídeos. Eres un crack.
Greta job
would appreciate if you can share the winding pattern
Great
Always educational!

Cool ride and vistas. Thanks for letting us tag along!
Precioso es fantástico🤘😝🤘
does this lamp creates uv light too?
That's awesome!
Do you still have the file for this print
very cool
nice useful for education process
i know it been a long time ago you made this video, Can you help me with the stater pole winding direction, please,
how did u bend the tubes foro uranium glass?
Can download design?
You stolen my whole name
How strong do you estimate the motor to be
Wow! -does it get hot?
No, not really.
@@hugohugo37 where did you get that from?
Sir can you please share the project with me @ johnhonai0000@gmail.com
Very Nice
wow, way beyond me, I will stick to lightwave 3D and my on paper math to generate what parts I need in lightwave, but hats off to you developing the skills and understanding the function of OpenScad :)
hello sir, i'm also making the stepper motor , if u don't mind can u give me some photograph of this stepper motor and the driver that u made
Nice
Escher estaría encantado de verlo.
Genial Chris.
you could upload the nicer ones i.e. at 11s to thingiverse, i think they are cool if you can do that.
Amazing!! Woooooow 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Me encanta. Es increíble lo que este chico hace con Leds. Keep going.
very good for education in schools, bravo
tutorial?
Is the design available somewhere?
Wow, that's really cool! I'm really digging Arduinos right now Chris. If you could tell me where I can learn more, it would be awesome! Currently have four Arduino One and a Raspberry Pi but want to give them a use haha
Hey Albert, thanks for the comment! The awesome thing about the Arduino is that it was designed to be used by non-electronics experts. It was made with kids and artists and hobbyists in minds. I would suggest the book "Make: Getting Started with Arduino". Just go through it chapter by chapter and do all the example projects. (You might want to buy a starter kit with all the electronic parts you'll need so you don't have to buy them individually.) The book is short and walks you through everything in a very clear manner. All of the books by this publisher are great. They have lots of "Make: Getting started with..." titles. Also the book "Make: Electronics" is an awesome intro to all things electronic. The store page is here- www.makershed.com/collections/books-magazines Also go to the arduino webpage for tutorials, help forums, reference materials etc www.arduino.cc/ In Madrid you have the store "Electronica Embajadores" for parts and also Bricogeek online. After you have done all the intro projects, it helps to have a specific project in mind to learn more. By the way I have a Raspberry Pi collecting dust waiting for the perfect project idea. The hard part is coming up with the ideas. Once you have the idea, it's really a matter of googling "How do I control a motor with arduino? How to control LEDs with the arduino?..." But do the intro tutorials first so you have a base to build on.
Chris... Sorry for the late answer! I was studying for my finals. I've found the book online, and I'm about to buy some parts. Before making the first comment, I saw a great site where an old man basically explains everything step by step. I got interested because it related sound into Arduino! Here's the link, in case you are interested too. He also has some lessons about reading GPS data from Arduino. www.toptechboy.com/arduino-lessons/ What I'm really looking for, is doing Arduino projects related to medicine. There's not much about it on internet, but I think it can be very cool!
very nice. have you shared this design anywhere I was wanting to print one for myself
nice :)
That's really cool looking!
Thanks!
