I honest to god don't think James Hetfield has wasted two minutes of his life trying to figure out a Megadeth riff. I just don't think it's something he's going to devote time to as he's really not obsessing over it in any way.

In all honesty, James Hatfield could probably play most of what Dave Mustaine does. He’s incredibly good as a rhythm guitarist. He just writes simpler stuff because that’s all their drummer can handle sadly. He (along with all their bassists) deserve lots of respect.
bro even i can play all megadeth riffs up to speed (didn't try Poison) of course James could play them if he wanted to
James has composed riffs that are just as hard so obviously he can also play other peoples riffs
Watch eloy (sepultura drummer) cover battery. James riffs are clearly far too weak for that kind of rhythm. Dave's style is way more suited for that kind of chaos.
They may not like it but they will forever be intertwined.
