Thank you for your crystal-clear teaching and for your faithfulness to reformed traditions. If Paul's letter to the Corinthians should be found, would we regard it as canonical?

Thanks - I appreciate the question. I believe that you are referring to Paul's remark in Colossians 4:16, "read my letter that is coming from Laodicea". Particularly relevant to that question is the fact that some copies of the epistle to the church in Ephesus have been found without a specific church designation, suggesting that what we know as Ephesians was intended to be a "circular letter" going to multiple churches. It is quite possible that that is what Paul was referring to. The letter may have made its way from Ephesus to Laodicea and was coming to Colossae. On the other hand, if Paul is referring to another letter that has not been preserved for us, even if it somehow was discovered, we would not recognize it as canonical because we are confident that the Lord expressed His will through the process of preservation and recognition during the first century. If another letter from Paul was available, it would have circulated along with his other epistles during the first century.

Thank you very much! I rarely get any feedback from the live stream, so it is very encouraging to know that you are benefiting from it!

Are we saved by faith or by works? James states that we are justified by works (James 2:24), but Paul states that we are justified by faith (Romans 5:1, Galatians 3:24). The Catholic Church teaches that we are saved by faith and works, but protestants teach that we are saved by faith alone. How do you reconcile the two teachings in Scripture? In this video Pastor Jay Smith provides the best explanation I have ever heard. He teaches the importance of both faith and works, but only when both are properly understood.

Good verses to meditate on, thank you! Slow to speak and restraining your words, is sometimes hard to accomplish. Especially, when the other person only needs someone to listen to them. We will see everyone on Sunday. Deo Volente. ⛪
