I spent 5 days drifting down the Murray with my partner. This was my first proper drift living out of the boat. I really wanted to do this drift to scout out some areas for a future drift when the cooler weather hits to find some big fish.
Day one was extremely windy so we just floated and drank beer and finished the night with some wild venison that I shot the week before.
Day two was better, I fished the tremor most of the morning with only a few boofs then opting for the dyno to get some fish in the boat and ended up with a really nice 83cm cod in the middle of the day.
Day three I decided pretty early in the morning to stick with subsurface and then threw surface throughout the day with a lot of boofs but no hook ups. Ended up getting another 4 in the boat
Day 4 we slept in and I managed to finally stick one off the top. The rest of the day was odd. Not a single hit on surface or subsurface. But the weekend boat traffic was starting to get pretty heavy.
Day 5 we fished surface for about an hour and then we had boats flying past every few minutes so we decided to send it home.
Overall the fishing was pretty average and the fish just weren’t fully committing to eating surface. The weather was doing some strange things which I believe could have been a big factor into why they weren’t fully committing.
The next drift will be a lot better and hopefully will see some fish up in the 90s and hopefully metre plus.
