Asekätkentäjuttu, Usko Haahden haastattelu 1967
Asekätkentäjutun haastattelu. Usko Sakari Haahti (1909-1978) oli suomalainen everstiluutnantti, joka johti jatkosodan päätyttyä syksyllä 1944 salaista asekätkentätoimintaa. Lapin sodan kynnyksellä Haahti hoiti Päämajan salaiset neuvottelut saksalaisten sotavoimien rauhanomaisesta vetäytymisestä maasta.
Päämajan operatiivisella osastolla kenraaliluutnantti A. F. Airon alaisuudessa työskennelleet Haahti ja eversti Valo Nihtilä laativat jatkosodan loppuvaiheessa 1944 suunnitelman noin 35 000 miehen varustamiseen tarvittujen aseiden ja materiaalin kätkemisestä eri puolille Suomea. Asekätkentä tapahtui suojeluskuntapiireittäin ja sitä johti kussakin piirissä sitä varten erikoisesti asetettu 2. ye-upseeri. Kunkin suojeluskuntapiirin alueelle kätkettiin yhden pataljoonan tarvitsema aseistus ja materiaali. Kätkentä aloitettiin lokakuussa 1944 ja se saatiin päätökseen vuoden loppuun mennessä.
Asekätkentäjuttu paljastui, kun Oulun seudulla asekätkennässä mukana ollut korpraali Kumpulainen jäi kiinni huhtikuussa 1945 yrittäessään myydä Oulun torilla eräästä kätköstä anastamiaan säilykepurkkeja. Hän kertoi edellisenä syksynä tapahtuneesta aseidenkätkennästä Valpolle ja Oulun seudulla asekätkentää johtanut majuri Aito Keravuori sai esimiehiltään käskyn paeta Ruotsiin. Keravuori siirtyi Ruotsiin 12. toukokuuta 1945 kalastajaveneellä. Tässä vaiheessa uskottiin vielä että Keravuoren poistumisen avulla jutun paljastuminen saataisiin rajattua vain Oulun alueelle mutta niin ei kuitenkaan käynyt. Valpo löysi Oulun suojeluskuntapiirin 2. ye-upseerina toimineen Keravuoren kassakaapista käskyn, jolla hänet oli määrätty tehtäväänsä. Tämän perusteella käskyn allekirjoittajat Nihtilä ja Haahti pidätettiin kesäkuun alkupuolella ja Airo muutamia viikkoja myöhemmin.
Sotaylioikeus tuomitsi 9. huhtikuuta 1948 Haahden ja Nihtilän viideksi vuodeksi kuritushuoneeseen ja virasta erotettaviksi. Haahden rangaistus koveni vielä korkeimmassa oikeudessa kuuteen vuoteen. Asekätkentäjuttu saatiin lopulliseen päätökseen vasta 15. maaliskuuta 1950, jolloin korkein oikeus langetti vankeustuomiot 1 488 kätkennässä mukanaolleelle. Suurin osa tuomioista oli ehdollisia kolmen vuoden koeajalla.
Vapauduttuaan Haahti toimi Vakuutusosakeyhtiö Pohjolan apulaisjohtajana.

      +Elexx Nope, that is a Ju-290 and was a well-known captured aircraft. POW Luftwaffe mechanics got her serviced and ready before she was flown across the Atlantic to the US. (The "Alles Kaput" was painted on after it was captured.)     They were insanely inaccurate for the longest time because the wind would make them flip mid flight, however, the Germans eventually fixed this by notching the end of the wings.

    Worth considering- since its accuracy was so bad it could not be used as a tactical military weapon, its only use was as a terror weapon against concentrated civilian targets, cities like London. That use alone makes its use a war crime. Excellent engineering or not, cost effective or not, morally it should never have been made or used.

      That's how we see it today, but back then the whole world didn't have much sense of such a thing. And even today, all of this is often ignored, depending on whether the good or the bad side uses terror. The ways and means are still sanctified when it is for something supposedly good.

    The accuracy of the F1 was only about 7 miles so it wasn't much use against airfields or factories only cities like London. The British used double agents to report impacts in North London to give the impression they were over shooting their target, this caused the Germans to adjust the settings so many fell in open countryside to the south of London.

      They had to let some hit the targets, as well as not notify people in rural areas or near none military targets, and let them get hit by v1,v2, and German bombers because if they excavated or defended them…the Germans would realize the uk figured it the enigma machine and codes as well indicated where there was a spy in the chain of command

    The interesting thing is I thought that they used a ramjet for propulsion and that a ramjet only works when it is in motion yet the film clearly shows the engine running when the bomb is sitting stationary on the launch ramp so clearly I was wrong.

      The engine is a pulse jet, burning gasoline. There is a chamber with a spark plug and a restricted exhaust and works on the Otto cycle. At the front is the intake with a open/close vane which is timed with the cycle of the engine. It uses very few parts and all parts are easy to manufacture. Very good concept, the first cruise missile.

    Here is some info about this video: Rare Footage of Captured German Aircraft in 1945 as Part of Operation LUSTY This is an airshow in 1945, in USA, with many rare Nazi German WW2 planes and helicopters among others: Junkers Ju 290 bomber, Messerschmitt Bf 109 fighter, Messerschmitt, Me 262 fighter, Messerschmitt Me 263 fighter, V2 rocket, etc. Operation LUSTY (LUftwaffe Secret TechnologY) was the United States Army Air Forces effort to capture and evaluate German aeronautical technology during and after World War II. In the end, Operation Lusty collectors had acquired 16,280 items (6,200 tons) to be examined by intelligence personnel who selected 2,398 separate items for technical analysis. Forty-seven personnel were engaged in the identification, inspection and warehousing of captured foreign equipment. The film is from Sept. 1945 at Freeman Field, U.S. captured aircraft test airfield. Once the military was done with these aircraft some were scrapped while most of them were moved into storage (1946-1950) at Orchard Field, Chicago which became O'Hare Airport. So it is possible some aircraft may have been scrapped and buried under present-day O'Hare Airport. Many of the captured aircraft were donated to the Smithsonian Museum and some still are in storage, and some are on loan to display at the US Air Force Museum in Dayton, OH. Not all examples were donated to the museum and were scrapped or donated to educational institutions, with a few survivors today. They had hoped to find the remains of several planes missing from the roster of captured aircraft (Me-262, He-219, Do-335) but they only found discarded components in the excavated areas. Some were scrapped including the large Ju-290 that was scrapped in December 1946. An archaeology group is presently digging around Freeman Field to look for buried or scrapped aircraft to find some of the lost planes, but so far they have only found parts and not complete planes.

    I think I learned some things here. Never thought about the catapult much, have heard something about "steam", but didn't think about it. I had no idea that the steam was generated on the spot! Narrator seemed to be talking about "T-stoff"? It's looking like they sprayed some high test hydrogen peroxide in there and it turned into steam? I've been hearing about this system my whole life, but just now starting to see some pictures.

      I know this comment is 3 years old, but to clarify: He was talking about Treibstoff (fuel) and Zersetzerstoff (decomposer) to create steam. This is used to propel the V1 forward on the catapult. They are filled in separately and you have to be careful, because when they come in contact, there will be a violent reaction creating steam. Also when the Treibstoff comes into contact with the Benzin (gasoline) and dirt there’s a big fire hazard.

      Do you know if German crews / pilots where the ones that were flying the German aircraft? I read that it was with German help that we were able to fire off most of the V2's we captured in New Mexico in the 1940's-50's . ( Operation Paper Clip.)

      +ufoengines It is unlikely that they were flying aircraft in the US but German POW ground crews and pilots did help the US and the British with captured weapons, including flight instruction on new aircraft. (The first US pilots to fly the Me-262 were given flight instruction in a two-seat trainer by POW Luftwaffe pilots.) Soon US pilots became familiar with them and were able to fly them afterward. POW Luftwaffe ground crews assisted with servicing captured aircraft while they were in Europe to prepare them for test flights or ferry flights. At least one POW pilot (Oberst Heinz Lange) was asked to fly a German aircraft in mock combat exercises for evaluation. I know that German pilots were asked to ferry the captured Focke-Achgelis Fa 223 helicopters to another location for the Allies.

      I was wondering about who got to fly the helicopters. They would be tricky to fly to say the lease and most looked like they were single seat so instruction on how to fly it would be tricky as well I bet. I suppose once you got the numbers from flying a round an Me 262 you would not have to have a fly off against a P-80 . Just compare the numbers and save wear and tear on the hardware and pilots. Seems to me the best prize was the V-2 . I'm sure we had "experts " in out military saying that such a thing was impossible right up to the time they starting falling on London. Hey dig this old patent 2511979A . Seems our Rocket Man Goddard was into Vac Trains just like Musk .

      +Mark Allen US Intelligence gave the unfinished Ho-229 to the British in the Summer of 1945. The Brits studied it to see if the RR Nene engines could be installed but abandoned that effort. By August 1945 the 229 was given back to the US and was on the shipping docks in New Jersey. It was shipped by train to Freeman Field. The film above is from early September 1945, so most likely the 229 may have still been in the crates or still under evaluation. This is probably also about the time that the AAF decided to put that fake blue paint job on it. By late 1946 nearly all of the captured aircraft were shipped to a hangar at Orchard Field, Chicago (now O'Hare Airport.) What wasn't shipped was scrapped or given to technical schools. In the buildup to the Korean War and Cold War, the hangar space was needed and the captured aircraft were donated to the Smithsonian Museum.

      +yank1776 Many were fortunately set aside and became part of the Smithsonian museum and some are still in storage. Multiple of the same type were captured and some were lost in accidents or were scrapped within a few years. The big Ju-290 was scrapped in 1946.

      +Mark Norman What some veterans have said makes sense. They had just fought a war for four years, they were tired and wanted to go home. They did not care about the planes, tanks, and guns.
