Arduino Controlled Social Distancing Enforcement Device
I got a little stir crazy with the stay at home order and started thinking about developing weapons. This Arduino controlled device shoots a nerf dart (or poison dart?) if you get within 6 feet (2m). Good for enforcing social distancing. I have already accidentally shot myself and my wife so I'm thinking I will just stick to using nerf darts only - no military contracts for me :( Enjoy.

DIY sailing rig for Vapor 10 kayak
Переглядів 121 тис.8 років тому
A DIY sailing rig for an Old Town Vapor 10 kayak for around $130 for parts. 100% clamping system - no holes or cuts are made into the kayak. I'm sharing this so others can use the ideas to make their own sailing rig and enjoy the ride as much as I do.
do you publish any cad files for this type build?
Sorry. Most of this was done by hand.
Very clever! I wish kayak makers would make a model that includes a built in centerboard slot. It seems like it would be a nice option to help straight line tracking when paddling, and also make it much easier to add a sail and rudder for sailing. I think it would be really nice if I could buy 2 kayaks with centerboard slots, and then join them with some crossbars and make a catamaran.
Agreed. I thought long and hard about tying both of my kayaks together (I have two of the same Vapor 10 kayak) as a catamaran but just haven't had the time. Good idea.
Best DIY yet!
youare jenius
this is the video i was looking for!! Thank you ! Excellent work. 💯👍
Very good!!!
Best Beautiful sailing rig diy job
Inspiring! Thx
Awesome job 🤙🏾
Very practical ideas. I would consider a couple of jam cleats for the halyards - easier to release in a hurry in case of necessity.
Great in simple. Tks .
someone is thinking of putting some type of a dagger board on a sail mounted kayak. good job
A drummer's solution! Brilliant! 😅
Excellent rig. Really appreciated the rudder assembly, the elegant boom fitting, and that you included mast stays. Very much liked that the setup didn't disturb the kayak itself. Studying up on rigging a canoe with a small sail for the kids. Hope to reuse some of your ideas and thanks so much for sharing. Will credit if this project progresses. Thanks again!
Thanks for the kind words and let me know if you got a sail rig working on your canoe.
This is genius...
Fantastic!! Glad I found your videos! Go and check out smzeus . c o m. It’s a very powerful tool, you can promote all of your social media profiles, UA-cam videos etc!!!
Great stuff man!
Glad you liked it!
How much trouble is it if you capsize?
I haven't capsized it yet but it would be a problem. I keep a bailer and a sponge with me at all times and I have everything tied to the kayak.
Perfect!!! Very creative
Thank you! 😊
why didn´t you used a white color brida half way closed? jajaajja
Working on planning this project for a kayak I am buying. Hoping to be working in a month and have it ready for memorial day at the lake. Do you still sail this rig? What kind of speeds were you getting? I am also curious about stability. I have been toying with some ideas... I'm an engineer so I love how clean and neat yours looks.
Sorry for the late reply. I still sail it but I'm not sure of the speeds. It gets me around but not super fast. On a good day, I will guess up to 10mph. Stability is a challenge - I have to fight it a little bit when it is gusty. I have contemplated making some outriggers inspired by the Windrider Tango sailing kayak but I'm torn on just how I want to make them.
Hi. Thanks for the great video. Could you please let me know the dimensions of the mainsail please? I have begun having a go at making a setup for my kayak. It is an Australis squid sit-on kayak. Off to a very slow start but determined to have a go. Thanks again. Dan
The main sail area is 16 sqft, the jib is 9 sqft for a total of 25 sq ft. The mast is 9ft so the luff edge of the main sail is about 7ft. If the sail was any larger, I think I would have severe stability problems because of the power. A larger sail will need a larger leeboard to compensate. When I started this, I found info on the internet about the ratio of sail area vs. foil area (dagger board, center board, or lee board) in the water. If you don't have enough foil in the water to compensate the sails, you will have stability and side slipping problems. Good luck.
Really cool engineering.
Thanks
Thanks for sharing. Ill try to do one myself and if it works out ill post a vid to my channel so you can see the rig!
Please let me know if you had any success with your kayak sail rig.
Great idea man I will continue to use this model instead of spending more money!
Have fun! Glad I could save you some money. Play on!
jajaj genius!!! Love this!! Really creative!!
Thank you!! 😁
Bad luck for me , I got a Wah pedal beside the Rhythm and looper section , can't use your method
I do not know if it's regatta fast, but it's gorgeously beautiful. Now, a Pungo 140 (with it's lateral stability) and a falucca rig...
Thanks
Absolutely brilliant & well thought out design! I especially appreciate that you didn't permanently alter the kayak. Thank you for sharing this!!
Thanks. The main goal was not to have any cuts or drills.
Any tips how would you tackle this problem in case you have the expression pedal version of the multieffect?
I like it
What material did you use for the sail?
Material for the sail on the kayak is rip-stop nylon from Jo-Ann fabrics (or any fabric store should have this). I would probably have been better served with some type of sail cloth but this works.
Ingenuity!
I have a Zoom G1xOn. Is this work with it?
The looper button would get in the way of the expression pedal so you'd need a left-side solution to the looper button.
Brilliant! Thanks for sharing this!
Glad you liked it.
Dude I would call this a mod not a hack that's an awesome design dude way to go man awesome awesome awesome
Thanks. Glad you enjoyed it.
Nice practical design!I tjink I'm going to borrow some of your ideas for my grandsons kayak. Thanks for sharing.
Glad to hear you will use these ideas for your grandsons kayak. Good luck.
Wirklich eine ausgezeichnete Idee !
Vielen Dank
good job captain
Glad you liked it.
Genius ... you saved my buck ... I too had problem so was planning to switch to other pedal ... hats off to your work
Amazing man! Unique, creative, helpful, fun!
Tq for all
Bonsoir, combien mesure le kayak , et la hauteur du mas
Bonjour. Je suis desole. Je parle tres petit francais. Le kayak coûte 350 $ US et le mât 275 cm. Les fournitures pour construire la plate-forme de voile est de 130 $ US. Bon chance.
@@doctorcad1557 merci beaucoup pour les informations 🖒
By far the best DIY design I've seen on UA-cam. I'm working on building my own sailing kayak. A quick question. You only need a Lee board off on one side?
Hello Orrin. Good question. Actually, I'm quite surprised the lee board works at all. It's short but apparently the lee board and the rudder are just enough foil in the water to manage navigation - even tacking upwind at 45 degrees. I think I get a little side-slipping when the kayak heels a little bit and the lee board is on the windward side but it seems to work. Perhaps having a lee board on two sides would be better but I seem to survive with just one. I've had this boat out on the water over 20 times now and the sail rig seems to hold together. I hope this helps you and good luck on your design.
Doctor CAD I have actually built my sailing kayak now and have taken it out 4 times, though only the last 2 times did I have enough wind to actually sail. I based it nearly 100% off of your design, though due to the design of my kayak I had to drill holes for mounting. I read through your comments on both videos to get all the demensions. I have noticed the same when I'm tacking with the wind on my starboard side I get a little bit of sidewards movement, but other than that it works great! I plan on posting videos soon to UA-cam and will be sure to credit your design (I'm not sure I'm saying that right, but I mean let everyone know that it is based on your design).
Hello Orrin. I'm so glad this helped you. Good luck and sail on!
This is why Western Civilization is awesome. We identify a problem, analyze it, cast about for possible solutions, pick the best one, use tools and materials to fabricate the expression of our idea. Then we test it and if it works, great! If it doesn't, we figure out what's wrong, then change our design to overcome the problems. And then we share our ideas with others, increasing the knowledge in the world. Doctor CAD, I nominate you for the Age of Reason Award for Excellence!
Thanks for the kind words. Undoubtedly I have benefited from videos I have watched on UA-cam (how to fix my car, how to play EVH riffs, laughing at funny cats, etc). This was my way of paying everyone back along with a few other videos I made for the same purpose. My intention isn't to get rich from any of these ideas but instead to keep humans from evolving into creatures with "monkey-like" feet that would be needed in switching between the HOME/LOOPER/RHYTHM modes on this pedal. That would just freak me out! With that, I graciously accept your nomination. :)
brilliant !
Smart .. Great job ..
That's good idea!!
Haha! That's beautifully made. I just use mine for practicing, and play in my socks so I use my big toe to press the buttons. I'm becoming the Eddie Van Halen of toe work.
I have a problem with the power supply... As they don't provide the power adaptor... How much volt or can you gimme the specifications of the adaptor?
Hello Kaiser. I use the Truetone 1 spot 9V DC adapter. It was suggested by a guy at the music store. I've been using it on my zoom G1on for about 2 years with no problems.
