Great job on this. I've been rereading the Ranger's Apprentice series recently and just got to book 5 where Greybeard Halt is first mentioned and this definitely works a lot better than the tune I sang it to in my head. Also, if Will didn't sing this at the gathering when Halt retired while holding back tears I'll be very disappointed.
I did, don't worry. Halt chased me up a tree again. You should've seen the rest of the Corp's reaction!

Rangers were real, they just didn’t “diss appear” like they do in the books. But they were foresters and guarded the borders of the kingdom. This song makes me wish to be a ranger even more.
What kingdom? I know Araluen wasn’t a real place but the books were based on real places - and I know Araluen is supposed to represent England but I don’t think “England” was around back then either Plus, when was “back then”? Do you know the time period these are written/the rangers existed?

So I’m interested in learning to play this song, but i don’t actually play any instruments besides the piano yet. What can this be played on? Sorry if this seems like a stupid question to all the more experienced musicians out there, but like I know the chords were written for a Mandola - can they be transitioned to a guitar/ukulele:mandolin/lute? So basically I guess if I learn to play the guitar or ukulele will I be able to play this song, or will I have to learn the Mandola is what I’m asking🤔🤷♂️
Hi, i’m so grateful for your comments and the fact that you enjoyed the song! I wrote this on a guitar and played it on one, so it can definitely be played on guitar. Ukulele is also a good option, though the vibe will be a bit different. I think you can arrange it to work on piano as well, but again, it will have a different feel to it. @@trungkiennguyen9193Okay if you’re still watching the comments here and have time/patience to reply, I have one more question So after realizing how long I’ve been putting it off I finally got a guitar and started learning (I’m still like SUPER beginner but at least I’m making progress now) and I realized that during the first verse you’re picking individual strings and only move to strumming in the chorus Aside from just listening and trial/error, is there a way to tell what strings are being picked here?
