Hello, I'm Tom. Welcome to Bear it in MIND! By day I’m a full-time A-level Psychology teacher with a Psychology degree. By night I make videos exploring all things Psychology on this channel. I started Bear it in MIND to share my own passion for Psychology, and to provide people with content to help us better understand ourselves and others.
Here you'll find AQA Psychology videos which will support your learning of A-level Psychology for the AQA specification.
This channel is about much more than A-level Psychology, and so you'll be able to:
- explore the wider areas of Psychology
- discover how the tools of Psychology can improve the everyday aspects of our lives, such as how to sleep better, study smarter, stress less, and think for yourself.

Excellently presented! I was familiar with Milgram, Ash, Sherif and some others, but the Focus of Control was new to me. I'm wondering if there have been tests investigating the effects of cultural belonging to the extent of group-think-support for violent action, terrorist activity, threats pf death or mass suicide (see Jonestown). Looking forward to the next exciting episode!
Great video could you possibly do some videos on schizophrenia please?
Thanks 😊 Glad you enjoyed the video. Will make videos on Schizophrenia but will be quite some time.
Is the Psychodynamic approach idiopathic or nomothetic? I thought it would be a bit in the middle since it has idiopathic elements (because of the Little Hans study) and also nomothetic aspects: it gave the psychodynamic stages and general principles of behaviour and generalised everyone had 3 aspects to their personality. Also, does the Humanistic Approach have a nomothetic element in that it generalises Maslow's hierarchy and self-actualisation as everyone's innate desire?
Hi Daphney. Good question. It could be argued that Psychodynamic is both: nomothetic in that they have some general laws that they apply to all people (i.e. we all go through the psychosexual stages of development, we all have a structure of personality etc.) However the research method is idiographic (in depth studies of individuals through highly qualitative methods). For Humanistic psychology they are mainly idiographic (with a bit of nomo!) for the following reasons: They are interested in the unique person (not looking for generalisations) and their subjective experiences (qualitative data). The hint of nomo (some would argue) can be see in that they state that we all have the innate desire to self-actualise, and related to this Maslow would have the general law that we all have to meet our deficiency needs to self-actualise. For Rogers, we all need congruence to actualise. Hope that helps some what.

Great content
Thank you 😊 Glad you enjoyed it.
Wouldn’t the pheromone study be contradicting evidence as in ao1 there’s no mention of exogenous factors?
Not quite following you - explain a bit more...
@ so what would you say for exogenous factors related to infradian rhythms for a01 ?
A question is most likely going to ask you to discuss research into infradian rhythms (most likely for 8 marks), in which case your AO1 is going to come from 1) defining what an infradian is and giving an example 2) describing accurately research into infradian rhythms. Don't worry too much about exogenous zeitgebers as part of your AO1 as the specification only refers to EZ in relation to a question on the sleep/wake cycle. They are not allowed to ask a question directly about infradian rhythms and EZs. Hope that helps.
Thank you this is a much clearer understanding got an assignment soon and this may be a question in exam
Glad you found the video and found it helpful. Hope it helps you smash it in the exam!
Great Explanation.New subscriber 😃
Awesome, thank you!
Have you made a video on research method ?
Working on something with Research Methods hopefully out early 2025!
@BearitinMIND Thank you for the response!! Well I enjoy your videos and your videos will be helpful for my class mocks thank you
Ok so to clarify the cognitive approach states that internal mental processes like attention memory and perception influence our behaviour. But they can’t be observed so inferences are made on how they work through theoretical models and computer models Also schemas are an explanation for behaviour?
They cannot be DIRECTLY observed, hence inferences. Schemas are an explanation of mental processes and how we think. As such they can explain some of the ways we behave.
thanks it helps a lot. Nov 29,2024
Glad it helped 😊
i lovee this, but it'd be very helpful if u slowed down a bit :)
Glad you like the video and found it helpful 😊
beautifully explained
Thank you 😊 Appreciate it. Glad you enjoyed the video.
Why? Sin nature. Psychologist also fail to take into account such phenomena as ninhilism and darvinism, and God hating. Some part of criminals act without thinking about this but wiser ones that are ninhilists or hate God can remove morality and guilt traps from their lives way more effective compared to general masses, and that is right thing to do from materialistic perspective, as human laws and regulations (also all life) are just accident in space and time and U live once (so, what is the point to sacrifice Ur wants and needs for society? And even if U do is still account to nothing on grand scale).
HI, thanks for your amazing videos. I have a question, does the level of explantion just mean like different levels of reductionsim? like at the higher level it is hollistic and at the bottom, it is reductionst?
Thank you 😊 Glad you are enjoying the videos. In relation to your question, mark schemes in relation to exam questions on Levels of Explanation have looked for the following information: - Levels of explanation - basic physiological unit level (low) to more complex holistic level - Reductionism as a hierarchy moving from extreme reductionism of the hard sciences (low-level) through biological level to broader psychological levels (mid-level) and then to sociological level (high-level) - Holism as the highest level of explanation taking account of all aspects of a person’s behaviour/experience - opposite of reductionism. Hope that helps 👍

@@BearitinMIND thank you so much!! :)
i've heard we no longer need stages of sleep and menstrual cycle in this much detail, and i can't find it on the current aqa spec, i can imagine we can mention them as examples of each rhythm but not sure whether they are still included. do you have any idea?
Hi Hollie. Good question. Changes to the AQA A-level specification which you refer to only apply to students sitting the exams in 2027 - which means if you are sitting your A-level exams in 2025 or 2026 then all the Biological Rhythms (circadian, ultradian, infradian) in the Biopsychology topic will be on the exam and you need to know them!
@@BearitinMIND i see thank you!!
I don’t understand what you mean by “cycles are longer than 24 hours” maybe I’ve watched a video ahead 😅 Thank u have a beautiful talent for teaching psychology
Good question. In the context of the video, the circadian rhythm is thought to have a cycle of 24 hours (this means to complete one cycle, to complete one time through the rhythm). In the case of the sleep/wake cycle, it is thought that one cycle/rhythms of sleep/wake takes 24 hours (in Siffre's case this changed). For another example, with infradian rhythms (menstrual cycle), it takes approximately 28 days to complete one cycle (from start to finish). Hope that answers your question. Glad you're enjoying the channel - appreciate your kind and encouraging words😊
Love the content! solely relying on these videos to learn forensic psychology.

Hello
Hi
Hi I have a question. In regards to Siffre’s cave experiment there’s conflicting dates online, also different locations. Could you clarify when and where this experiment was taken? I’ve seen 1972 and 1962 so not sure which is correct .
That's because he did more it more than once. He first did it in 1962, and then he did it again in 1972 in a cave in Texas. See the links in the description for more, specifically this article: www.cabinetmagazine.org/issues/30/foer_siffre.php
@ that makes more sense now thank you. Great vid!
Hi, can I follow your videos to study for Edexcel ial psychology speciation?
Looking at the specification for Edexcel you'll find videos on the channel that relate to the following: - Social Psychology (Obedience, Milgram, Resistance, Conformity, Asch, Moscovici, minority influence) - Cognitive Psychology (Multi-store model, Working Memory Model) - Biological Psychology (Central Nervous System, Structure and Function of Neurons, Synaptic transmission, Structure of the brain, hormones, body rhythms/biological rhythms) - Learning Theories and Development (Classical conditioning, Operant conditioning, SLT, Freud, Systematic desensitisation, Psychoanalysis) - Development Psychology (Attachment) - Criminal Psychology (Forensics) Hope that helps :)
