When this came out I would never have dreamed I'd be watching a 64 year old Perry performing this. The thought never even entered my mind. I was about 20 then, I thought Perry was younger than he was, and we would be young forever. And even if we wouldn't be it didn't matter because those days were so far away they were irrelevant. But then here we are. Bittersweet really. I can still remember seeing the Pets video and being so excited to see what Perry has been doing. It wasn't long before I had this album recorded on a tape and I listened to it over and over. Had it not been for me getting into punk rock and thinking I shouldn't be too much into regular alternative rock anymore I'd have gotten the second record and would know all of it today too. But luckily as I got into my 30s I quit being such an idiot about what I listened too and began to reminess about Jane's Addiction and how much I loved Perry and what an icon of counterculture he really was. But into my 40s I became very disenchanted with the left and how it became so authoritarian and racist (yes, that's what I said) so it turns me off some how Perry seems to be still stuck with that worldview. But being Jewish i don't think he has sided with Hamas like some of these other racist boneheads have done. What an embarrassment those Palestinian protestors are out there calling for intifada! But I become side tracked. It doesn't change the music because of his politics. I'm almost 50 now. I'm old enough to know I don't have to agree with someone's beliefs in order to enjoy their music. Perry was never much of an intellectual anyway. Like most leftists he doesn't actually read very much I don't think. A left winger often knows the titles to 100 books and the names of all their authors but has only actually read two of them.
