      It's just the desire to explore. 😁I started the day an hour before the shuttle was running and did 5 climbs from the shuttle pick up to the drop off. Oddly enough, I just wasn't feeling quite right as I rode. I finally got my groove when I headed into Blue Monkey.

      It'll be a few months with all the freeze/thaw happening. They have cut in the top part of the trail, however, the bottom part they're still cutting down trees and re-routing the climbing trail to fit the 2 new trails exiting there.

      It's taken me about a year to finally feel comfortable on these jumps. One hard part is that I've watched more that a few videos about how to jump, so it's in my head what I should do. I think I should be able to do it correctly every time. I decided a few times (starting in March/April of this year) to go to Vee and other parks and just do the jumps. I don't post these generally because they are boring and I don't want to watch them again. I put in hundreds and hundreds of reps to finally get to where I can feel the approach, launch and landing. Only now can I feel it and describe it. In some of my recent videos, I've left in the self-talk so that I can look back at it and see if what I think I'm feeling is visible. Then I look back at a video like this one from about a year ago - ua-cam.com/video/WAm1CvO39uk/v-deo.htmlsi=VnkvsKlEJ6kq1MNG&t=6004 I can see a huge difference.

      @@AppalachainMTB I see a huge difference in your ridding too. You've came a long way man. Its encouraging to see it because I know I can do it. Its just getting out there and riding and practicing. I slomo watch your jumps and they look good. I can see a huge difference when you nail it and when you dont. When you dont the bike kind of stalls on the landing. Like the suspension pauses then you start moving forward. Its crazy to see it but when you do you'll see what I'm talking about.

    • @AppalachainMTB
      @AppalachainMTB 2 дні тому

      @@Oper8or I can feel it. There is a huge difference in the feel between the different landings. The tires make a different noise as well. I was just back out at Vee and got more clips where it was even more pronounced.

      @@billybennett4203 These motors were on 2 different bikes. Let me clarify that it was the belt system that engages the motor that died on each of these motors. Brose motor itself is a killer platform. 1st bike - 2023 Turbo Levo - under 900 miles. Specialized replaced the motor, no issues. *I put 1800 miles on this new motor with much of that at Vee hollow and never experienced a single problem. 2nd bike - a different 2023 Turbo Levo - 586 ish miles. Failed the same way as the first bike. I now have over 200 miles on the new motor. I'm trying to put as many miles as I can in Turbo mode to see how it handles it. Hope this helps.

    • @AppalachainMTB

      Wildside! Whip Or Will, Rattler, Thrillium and Dolly's Curves all have jumps. There are 2 new trails being built with MONSTER jumps 30+ ft, gaps and drops - that are currently being worked on. I talked with the trail builders a few days ago as they were scouting more potential trail locations on the mountain. In the next few months, when the new trails are opened, it's suppose to complete with the likes of Jarrod's and Kanuga jump lines.

      @jeremygifford38 - That's a bummer. I trashed my first (and only) rim a few months after getting my bike. I run upgraded rims. There was no real reason for the upgrade other than they were a decent deal. I went from alloy to carbon. Can't tell any difference. I have 2 alloy rimmed bikes and 2 carbon rimmed bikes. If I were to replace any of them I'd go with alloy going forward - after the warranty runs out that is.

      Thanks! @aledska I use a chin mount. I've used a chest mount once. To me the footage I got even after adjustments was unusable for what I like to post. I use a GoPro or InstaPro, both of these cameras on a chest mount give me the perspective I'm a creature popping out of my chest and my arms are in the way of the trail that I want to see.

      the perspective that works best for you will depend on your riding posture and the trails (as well as if you are filming solo or follow cam). Definitely best to play with a few and see what you like best. For me, the chesty works well since I like to see more of my bike in the frame.

    Great vid as always man. Trails look nice in this one and looked fast. One question on the drops. I'm eyeing up Momma Bear as my next thing to tackle and I notice you dont pop on that one. Is it just too short to the landing and you dont need to pop or are you popping and I just dont see it on camera?

    • @aledskaMTB
      @aledskaMTB 29 днів тому

      mama bear is a pretty small drop. Not a lot of pop is necessary, but you definitely need to get the front wheel unweighted a bit so you don't nose dive (although nose-diving on a drop like mama bear won't kill you...probably). Papa bear is a fun one was well, I usually just squash it, as if you mess up a pop on bigger drop like that itll have more adverse consequences.

    • @AppalachainMTB
      @AppalachainMTB 28 днів тому

      @aledska is right. I've played on Mama bear just to see the consequences of doing it going slow, fast and how popping or simply unweighting the tire affects it. Mama bear is awesome cause it's so forgiving. I've gone fast and popped to see how far down I could land safely. Never had a problem.

      @AppalachainMTB 29 днів тому

      @trailblazer5273 Your statement "THE WAY I SEE IT, (IS THAT THOSE JUMPS ARE WAY TOO DANGEROUS AND NOT SAFE AT ALL!!)" is incredibly thought provoking. Thank you for adding it to this discussion. I see this jump trail an amazing piece of artwork. This artwork was created to help me leave the ground and land with features appealing to my adrenaline fueled desire to improve my skills. I don't think any trail is too dangerous. I have a certain set of skills, these skills lead to a certain level of capacity. In relation to my own capacity, there are only 2 types of trails in my mind - 1) Trails I'm willing to attempt 2) Trails I'm not willing to attempt. Some times the trails I'm willing to attempt are above what I have the capacity to ride and I'm extremely happy they exist. To me this is no different than going to the gym and working out with weights or exercises that require repetition and practice to be competent. There are things at the gym that fall into the same two categories of willing to try or not willing to try. As there is little potential consequence to spectators watching this trail, I can't think of a better way to allow people to improve skills. When someone crashes like I did at the end of this video, what I didn't show is multiple people asking me if I was alright and if I needed help in any way. The community of people around keeping an eye on each other makes me want to continue and test my limits.

I struggle with motivation to wear any sort of device that changes my range of motion or provides more support where I currently don't need it. I've always felt that if I don't need it from a support perspective I don't. I realize that in hindsight after a bigger injury, that may be a painful 20:20 situation where it could have prevented something. Time will tell.
