It was interesting to see at Elton's Glastonbury gig the composition of his band: Elton on piano (obvs) another keyboardist, guitar, bass, and then a drummer and two percussionists. Percussion is clearly very important to Elton. A mark of the man is also how he's kept as many original members as possible since the late 60s. Such a rich, colourful sound despite only a few players compared with the entourage that his contemporaries have these days. Clapton seems to have about 20 people on stage! I must admit that I was super impressed and surprised at the lush musicality in that final gig. I'm ashamed to say that I underestimated Elton's live performances. Shame it was his last on these shores!

Brilliant! Many years ago, I attended an Elton John concert at what was once the Universal Amphitheater. The first set was solo Elton - bouncing between 2 pianos on opposite stage ends. The second set opened with the raising of the Yellow Brick Road - and there was Ray playing with Elton. It was (Captain) Fantastic!

Ray plays the tambourine as if it's an entire orchestra. Check out the way he's waving his hand to manipulate the decay @00:20 , adding an extra beat! He's the G.O.A.T.

I've only just found on my archives from old VHS tapes the BBC2 episode of Understanding Music (for schools) where you explain how you started out making music for amateur dramatic groups and on from there, then you were assigned a theme to write a small score for. It was most interesting.
