Funwhole is easily and clearly a far better value than Lego in terms of features and quality for price. Lego is vastly overpriced for what it is, especially with their quality issues in recent years. The only exception is potential resale value down the road, where Lego still reigns supreme.

I have this set and this year I de-Christmas the set and 'Halloweened' it for October which was easy to do. But it's now back to Christmas to end the year.

It looks really nice. You did a lot with a narrow space and since it's not a square design, it makes it look different from others I've seen on youtube over the years.

As someone who has built dozens of Lego sets and a handful of these off-brand sets (including finishing this one a few days ago), I can definitively say that no, these are not better than Lego. Take the Lego Home Alone house set (which I built a few years ago and always bring out for Christmas decoration every year) for example. It is designed so much better and features so many more details and Easter eggs than any off brand set I have ever come across. Not to mention the quality of the pieces themselves, which often don’t fit together well on the off-brands, either being too tight or too loose. The instructions can often be confusing on the off-brands as well and sometimes makes the building process more annoying than fun, which is something I have never encountered with real Lego sets. The one upside I will give this set that it has over Lego is the inclusion of the lighting kit that is installed as you build the model. I have installed after-market lighting kits to some of my other Lego sets before, and having to basically disassemble parts of the build in order to retro-fit the lights can be a real pain, so this set did at least get that part right (I’m honestly surprised that Lego doesn’t sell their own lighting kits at this point). But yeah, just about every single other aspect of these off-brands do not come close to the quality and thoughtfulness of a good Lego set. I’m in the process of building a nice little Lego Christmas village, and while this model will fit in with the other Christmas themed Lego sets I have for my village, the difference in quality is very apparent to me. So yeah, the next addition to my village will be the Lego Holiday Main Street set and Santa’s Post Office set. Unless some other off-brand Lego set really catches my eye, I don’t think I will be buying another for the time being. It’s a pretty cool little set, but there is a very apparent difference in overall quality that really just hinders the enjoyment of the building process for me that I love so much with actual Lego sets. But hey, don’t let me stop you from buying one of these. The price is clearly the biggest selling point for this particular model vs a Lego equivalent like the Home Alone house, but the quality just isn’t quite there, imo.

It is not a perfect set, but I like it better than the official LEGO Christmas set this year, and you cannot beat the price. I will probably be getting it, although I might wait for it to go on sale.

Great review. I don't think it's for me, because as much as I love the film, it doesn't look as polished as a typical Lego set, and it's open-backed. But the price is admittedly great. I wonder what the possibility is of TLG ever making an official Christmas Vacation set. They've made sets based on much more adult themes (e.g. Stranger Things, Seinfeld, and, arguably, Jaws), but the earlier Vacation films were quite 'racy' (e.g. nudity and profanity) so I wonder if that would damage the brand, so to speak, even though I believe Christmas Vacation is PG, and is arguably no more violent than, say, Home Alone, and only features a couple of 'sexy' scenes (e.g. the stuff with the lingerie sales assistant).
