This is a safe substrate for hamsters, I believe coconut just is too if you get it from the reptile section it shouldn’t have any added chemicals or anything harmful! Hope this answers your questions 😁

It took a long time for me to create the border along the shelving to prevent my hamster from falling off it. I don’t use them like that now but have instead cut them into the different sized pieces I need and added stilts to make the shelves into platforms which are much easier to use and more helpful for me. Either way it is great that you have got your hamster an amazing sized cage so thank you so much for researching and providing your pet with proper care x

@@Graces_life thankyou so much! Just a shame that I’ve had him for a month and he just hides and runs away from me all the time 😞 I’m so soft and lovely to him. Don’t know what else I can do to make him trust me and stay out when he sees me. He’s not been out for nearly 24 hours now. Not even for food 😭 xx

My hamster Rufus used to do that a lot for months but just keep offering treats or if he won’t accept treats just yet speak softly whilst he eats his food if possible or just when you’re around his cage. Eventually he should hopefully begin to come around to you, as mine did (it still took over 1yr till he first sat on my bare hand without nipping or running straight off and now at just over 2 years old he is sooo sweet, so it is worth the wait). Some do require more time and patience to trust but keep going 💕🐹

@@Graces_life aww thankyou so much! It’s the first Hamster I’ve had that has been like this. So it’s come as quite a surprise. Some days he’s been taking my treats and others he’s Just ran and hid immediately. I’ll keep persevering. 1 year wow that’s surprising. Mines from pets at home because I have no local breeders xxx

I’m so sorry for your loss, it is really difficult to loose them. But such a beautiful thing to know that she passed peacefully in her sleep and I’m sure felt the comfort knowing you were there holding her in your arms! It’s an upsetting time after they’ve passed away, but rest knowing that you looked after her well and loved her very much. It’s always good to express how you feel to someone you know who cares and will understand you, always know that God cares for you and for the animals of this earth, understanding how you feel better then anyone else and all you need to do is tell Him and He will provide comfort and peace. Thank you for looking after your hamster, caring for her right to the end ❤️🐹

I understand but you don’t have to be as it sounds like you’ve done the research and want to care for your hamster well and I’m sure you will. Enjoy the experience and getting to know your hamster, it’s an amazing gift from God to be have them. They are wonderful animals, with such lovely individual personalities and will have a lovely life with you I’m sure 🐹💖

It’s doing really well, Rufus (my Russian dwarf hamster) really enjoys the setups I’m able to do in it. I use a hemp mat as a bottom layer but you can also use cardboard to protect it and then change when needed! It’s up to you as the material seams wipeable but I always prefer to protect it with an extra layer just in case 😁

@@Graces_lifeDid you also seal the gaps with something (silicone)? Because my mewoofun cage has small gaps and a larger gap between bottom and back panel and I am kinda afraid Russell might chew and escape 😢

I used cardboard to line the edges and cover the gaps then the hemp mat lining also fit in a way that meant this gap wasn’t an issue/ accessible to the hamster. But I suppose silicone could work well too for a more durable solution!
