Filmed in 1990 at Kennedy Center Honors for Billy Wilder, the stars of "City of Angels" present a scene from the Tony Award Winner for Best Musical of that year. James Naughton (Won the Tony for Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Musical) portrays Stone, a fictional film noir detective involved in an investigation taking him on a turbulent ride. Gregg Edelman (nominated for Best Performan...
Great song. I saw this on Broadway and it was wonderful.
I forgot about this gem of a show. Thanks for posting one of my favorite songs from CITY OF ANGELS!
Wish this could be turned into a movie. Would work so well on screen.
I could see Matt Bomer and Jonathan Bailey playing this role
Saw the original production and cast. Sublime. So creative in every aspect- actors, music, set, script.
This makes me so sad that there isn’t a full-length video preserved of this amazing musical. I got to see it once in San Francisco in the early 1990’s. Not the original Broadway cast, but still a pretty great production.

For when you think your oc is getting uppity
I wish there was a full version of the official Broadway performance online, I wish I could've seen it live so bad because the plot of the whole thing is just so creative and I feel like so many plays follow a somewhat predictable path that can fall into a few categories today but this just stands out to me so much. (If anybody had a link to more performances by the original cast itd be greatly appreciated)
You and me both. I would LOVE to see the original cast in the roles. Aurora Spiderwoman has several clips if you haven't seen those.
Private Dictator So much clever squeezed into two words. It's perfect.
I love this; without the playwright the character wouldn't exist, but without the character the playwright wouldn't exist either
👏👏 obsessed!
You and me both! Love James Naughton and would LOVE to find any captured moments from this wonderful play.
SLANG 😍😍😍
Gregg is incredible.
They sound so gay and I love it /pos
This made me laugh LMAO
All creators must ship themselves with their OCs
About two minutes into this, after a little bit of contextual dialogue the song 'You are nothing without me' begins. It's one of multiple very cleverly scripted numbers in this show.
Excellent performance, and I’m glad that this video exists. But I’m not sure what it has to do with Billy Wilder. I guess the film noir connection?
It's great to have this as a document of that underappreciated show. It's an odd, sort of back-door choice for the subject at hand though.
Thank you for posting this video. I remember watching it when it originally aired and thinking that it was the greatest musical theater performance I'd ever seen. I have looked for it before and was never able to find it again, until now. Decades later, I still think it is one of the best live musical moments of all time.
Regarding Broadway performances, I so much want to see the play in its entirety but must be happy with the bits and pieces that are available. I love these performances as well!
❤️👍
By any chance did you record Santino Fontana and Julie Halston's piece. I thought they were hilarious, but I missed the beginning.
I'm sorry. I did not.
I went to the same high school as Gregg. We were in musicals together. Even as a teenager, He was so talented and laser focused on a theater career
He is a talented guy. Must have been fun to share a stage with him.
@@quietmoments691 yes, it was. Even as a teenager he was head and shoulders above the rest of us and it was clear that he had the ability and drive to make it a career
Totally crushworthy.
Performance is great from all parties and James Naughton is awesome.
