The Central Business District, commonly called Johannesburg CBD, is one of the main business centres of Johannesburg, South Africa. It is the most dense collection of skyscrapers in Africa, however due to white flight and urban blight, many of the buildings are unoccupied as tenants have left for more secure locations in the Northern Suburbs, in particular Sandton and Rosebank.

You should NOT walk in Johannesburg CBD. Do not do what this person has done. It is still very dangerous.
Looks like a typical poor inner city area in the United States. This could easily be the bad areas of New York City, Philadelphia, Baltimore or Chicago.
This brings back memories. Nothing compares to the feeling of the cover of darkness and the anxiety that rises every hour that comes. That area is notorious, when it starts getting dark, like you see with most people: you walk fast and with intent.
good content, got yourself another sub
Myn familie is in suid afrika pretoria sy was in 70,s en 80,s in hillbrow sy heb my geseg het was paradise op aarde die tyd hiilbrow.... groet aan suid afrika van holland ek wil kom kuier.
Why do people have to litter? 😢
Man, I hate this city! Got mugged several times, almost got shot once. I'm glad I don't live there anymore.
South Africa's concrete jungle 💎🔪🚬⚰️
Wow that shoe shop in the beginning of video. Have never seen shoes being displayed in a window that way before!
Don't try to swim -- the water is freezing cold in Camps Bay
Muito lido
So dirty
Absolutely no comparison to the 60/70/80 years - Many old historic houses give an idea of what a beautiful district in Johannesburg used to be

Lived in hillbrow in 76 78 loved it was exceptionally clean you could walk alone at night but seems it's all changed now I left end 78 and went back to Northern Ireland. Still remember all the good times the Ambassador hotel the Irish club and lots more places to go at night loved it
Pachimunhu😃
thanks. alot of trash on the ground. Nobody picks that up?
The trash comes in faster than they can clean up
@@virtuallyeverywhere8831 they clean up at night. Its a mission to clean up whilst there's still lots of foot traffic and lots of cars on the road. By morning it actually looks decent. Then the charade begins again
Please do Simons town and/ or Hout bay
Nice virtual tour. This video gives me a precious experience as if I were traveling there! Appreciate your good work!
Thank you so much I appreciate it
I lived there in tbe 90s, Hillbrow, Berea and Yeoville

Empty streets and barbed wire fences. Must be a white neighborhood.
African Detroit
Thanks for sharing I was longing to see Hillbrow for years. Lived there in 1988-89
What a shame and a waste of a once beautiful powerful city, now we can see why Sandton is the new CBD. Why can't the people living there keep clean. This was the City of Gold.
Pity it isn't as clean as Cape Town, Joburg's CBD is much much bigger and can offer 10x the excitement and entertainment Cape Towns has.
As a South African living in Mpumalanga I can tell you that the place looks dirty.what the heck

Gosh hope those Historical buildings are looked after.
people speaking about the government not doing it job , but how can the government interfere in private property , the buildings has owners
Hillbrow in 2022 ua-cam.com/video/VS6FrcPQmjQ/v-deo.html
Some truth here :) apparently when Hillbrow started becoming more mixed towards the end of apartheid there were new residents who weren’t always able to stay up to date with rates payments which led to a lot of negative changes coming about there... better off people (usually but not always white) left for the plushy suburbs (maybe sadly a few emigrated then too) and the area stopped being ‘socially controlled’ race-wise. The poor and less well off, the desperate even, started entering into these formerly white openly places and things changed because the community changed... I wish people looked at it like this opposed to being racists (as people often are when they look at these issues). I disagree somewhat on the government point you make... I agree that the buildings owners have responsibilities, but if the city or higher government departments had plans to fund inner city living and upkeep from the 80s when things started changing, perhaps the poorer (often Black, now newer migrants) people and better off white peoples could have all lived in sustainable, well maintained and supported inner city neighborhoods/ communities. Of the course the apartheid gov wasn’t going to offer support to keeping Hillbrow afloat and maintained when it was becoming mixed, but today what is the excuse? If there was a financial plan to help with rents and rates, with better policing, basic basic basic maintenance and services, & in creating job opportunities or supporting those who could create jobs, things could be so much different! But we sadly have a government and political class that has no experience with governing a society and country like ours with these complexities of inequality and alternative realities that different classes and groups live in. But hopefully we can all progress and things will get better :)
I see everyone's comment but nobody seem to realise that there are 1st World countries who look like this and even worse. Hillbrow itself is so diverse in culture and race you'd be surprised. There are still a few white people living in beyween the zulus, pedis, greater Africa (Ghana, Cameroon, Zim, Nigeria, Congo, Eritrea, Tanzania, Angola) coloureds, indians. Poverty has a way of demonizing a place and it's people. You'd be surprised on the hard working, honest, God fearing and loyal people you'd meet. Ten to 1 if you've ever bedn to Jozi, you met them as your waiter, gardener, maid, nurse, call centre, restaurant staff, taxi driver and minors to name but a few. Let's unite in love and acknowledge the injustice that occurred in SA leading to the status quo and help to make a difference.

What an absolute shithole.
You can tell this used to be a very beautiful area until foreigners overtook it
I thought it was built by foreigners too
looks like northern Paris
You think the streets are trashed, wait till you see Hillbrow.. We may blame foreigners but the Government has been failing to run the country for decades...
Danko
looks like kabul to be honest, or even worse in some angles
