A Humble Cast Iron Pot Restoration
This old cast iron pot has been sitting in the garden for years. It's time to give it a new lease on life.

Always test for lead contamination. Alot of guys will use old cast iron pots for smelting scrap lead to make bullets and fishing weights
I want that pot! The beef stews I could cook in that beautiful old iron 😋😋😋
I would use that for deep frying.
This was therapeutical to watch; no anoying music on the backkground and an easy, mellow relaxed way of filming the proces. Job well done, sir!
I do this a lot and I'll tell ta what people say but don't try. Stainless steel anodes are the easiest to clean but "they say not to use stainless.. I use a rolling 40 amp charger that delivers 38 amps when properly loaded. 38 amps with SS anodes would be enough to produce some gas I'd think, two years with no problem. Using your wife's oven was the most dangerous part of this video. I suggest you buy a cheap oven on the last day of an estate sale. When I'm working on something like a bean pot I hang it vertical from the bail and drop an anode inside the pot. I use an all thread rod with a PVC end cap on the end for an insulator. Just set it in the pot since electrolysis is a line of sight type cleaning. My barrel/ tank holds 30 gallons which requires 17 ounces or half a box of Arm & Hammer so I get two refills from a box. To load it properly it requires surface area so I do best with three pieces at one time. If I use four pieces my anodes eroge faster and it takes longer to clean because it is a line of sight cleaning.. Four pieces can require 24 hours while three can come clean in 12 hours if I'm lucky. Occasionally one need to go back in with the new ones. I use an electric pressure washer to pre clean the pieces and blow the crud off of the tight spaces. I clean the anodes with it also. As for rapidly drying the piece before oiling I use an electric leaf blower. This may not be practical for most people but I clean for two estate sale companies, myself, and occasional individuals. When it starts cleaning slower the anodes need to be cleaned. At around 150 hours the water needs to be changed. I may get 20 pieces at a time, I just never know. I'm retired/ white trash and this gives me something to do. I have tried to build the most efficient tank possible, this is my third tank and I hope I have it right. I can improve on anything at this point. Hopefully I've said something that can help someone else.
beauty 🎉
I knew that was old enough to have a gate mark on the bottom!
This was an extremely satisfying video to watch, thank you.
