Fixing a HACK JOB “Repair” On A Toyota RAV4 Subframe
Unfortunately someone in the past had damaged the subframe on my mom’s 2016 Toyota RAV4 and didn’t bother to fix it properly. The mount for the passenger side rear lateral arm was pushed through the subframe, sheering the mount and turning the poor subframe into a paperweight. Whoever “fixed” the car last welded the lateral arm and lateral arm mount together very poorly, and made the car very unsafe to be in on the road. In this video, I’ll be repairing the car properly by replacing the subframe, lateral arms, and the hardware that was welded.

Today we’ll be updating the look of my neighbors 2015 Lexus ES350 to the 2016 design. While the 2016-2018 has more cosmetic mods than just the bumper and exhaust tips, my neighbor only cared about those two things so let’s get to it!

Fixing my Oil Burning Mercedes

Replacing Valve Stem Seals on my W211 Mercedes E500 My 2006 Mercedes E500 was suffering from excessive oil consumption. Upon further inspection, I noticed the valve cover gaskets were leaking. I was also able to diagnose bad valve stem seals due to the blue smoke occurring after idling for a while. Simply blipping the throttle after a few mins of idling would send a big cloud of smoke in the ai...

Where do you put the jackstands when doing the brakes?
@@jordanlundervilleministries this was a while ago so I don’t exactly remember. I usually end up putting them on the subframe by the lower control arm mount
@ that’s the big area where the strut/shock connect right?
@ I put it right where the lower control arm goes into the subframe
Looking at doing this my self, due to the old one being very corroded my friend, thank you for sharing 😊👍❤️🇬🇧
Good video. I’m having a hard time picturing how the keeper holds the spring down
@@davidmaloney9608 friction!
Did you set the engine at 40degrees Tdc? Or did you rotate it throughout the process?
@@rileyclay213 I believe I had it set to 40° tdc for the entire duration of the job
@ okay just double checking. Doing mine this weekend. Thanks for the quick reply and quality video!
Thank you for the detailed DIY brother. I always thought it’s a huge pain in the ass, but you made it look easy. I will probably try to do mine on the m113k
I have a 2001 RAV4 the supreme has rusted through and my rear, lower control arm rusted out and I’m wondering if you know if there’s some prefab metals that I could buy somewhere to fix the problem frame rusted out any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Great video man! Very informational. I'm doing mine in a couple weeks. Do you remember part numbers on the stretch bolts by chance?
Can you do my from and rear bumper?
Thanks for the video! I have lifter tick. I just want to change the lifters. Do the pistons need to be in a specific position before I remove the valve train? Are the lifters hard to get out of the rocker? Thanks!

You wasted too much time to get to your point.
How did you verify it was the valve seals
@@ThatE55Kid509 The car would puff a big cloud of blue smoke every few minutes it idle. In the mornings when I would start the car I’d also get a big cloud of blue smoke. After replacing the valve seals, this went away completely.
how many bar of air are you blowing in cylinder?
@@serkanserkan111 I believe I was using 80psi in this but that is a bit excessive. Since then I’ve done this job one more time on another m113 and I used 30 psi
Wow 🎉 thanks for this great video, I'll definitely buy this kit and use it to replace the valve stems seals on my 2010 Dodge Journey 2.7v6 24valves😢
I swear up and down about hiroes coiloversIf if you drive it in sports mode you should be good to go is handles better and the right quality is not that bunch different, if you want the old man's mode soft you might as well just go with the ABC
Your knowledge is impeccable. I have a 2009 SL600

@@c-teamtrading9690 don’t worry, it’s back to stock now
Very much looking forward to Part 2, its been months now. Very important to all of us, what did you pay for car? How much have you spent on parts? Any idea how much time you spent on these repairs? Very enjoyable video to watch.
Nice video. Thanks for the information. Where can we get this kit for the valve springs? Can you share a link please?
This video is impressive....keep them coming!!!!
Where's part 2???
Nice bro , just cut my exhaust off , best fun ever , people hate me but , fkk it 🤣🤘 ua-cam.com/video/_kPz791dMe0/v-deo.htmlsi=0VMIfIyE-htgd7tN
You can just use a valve remove tool you don't need to buy that device
How does that work as opposed to the tool in the video?
Your Father must be in the background somewhere! I can't believe the ABC suspension is working with original accumulators and 165K miles or whatever you said the miles the car had on it.
Dude you are way too relaxed doing this job. I just did valve seals on my BMW N63 engine I was hard job. But I got it done. FYI anyone trying to do this job just be careful do not push down on the valve if you drop valve down you are royalty Fucked Good video tho
What site did you go to for bolt pattern removing and replacing it
I'm amazed at your knowledge of the SL.
привет. отличное видео. я делаю такую работу в России Москва. на м113 работа занимает 2.5-3 часа . на м112 2.5 часа максимум.
Ive found on the passenger side you cannot mount the brackets as far forward as you did on the drivers side. Wish id seen the snipe earlier as ive been trying without and it gasses you out quick without it.
Your engine looks very healthy from the inside mine is like almost complete black.
I m doing same job on my car today use the same tools, my 2005 E500 burned a lot of oil for years. it is easy for upper stems but very difficult for bottom inner stems because the tool too long won't fit to remove the bottom inner springs. Your video only showed the easy part but skip the difficult part. But still good video anyway.
Dude you are sooooo knowledgeable and not only that but, you are so patient on explaining it’s right on the money 💪🏻 I have to give you an A+. Actually with a million ++++++++++++++++ signs Great job done and thank you for helping me and most definitely others as well! 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻💯
Hello iv a 1999 w210 with the 2.4 engine car has 50 thousand miles do you think i should change this part for peace of mind or is there plenty life left in it yet Thanks
Nicely done. Very impressed with your knowledge. Looking forward to future videos on the SL.
Ethan I know this video is older but do you happen to links for everything needed to do this job? I was only able to find the valve cover gaskets pcv hoses and valve seals I’m looking for the spring compressor and the bolts that hold down the valve train TIA
Thats a hell of a job to do without a lift, good job man!
Did you disconnect the SBC or disable to SBC? - I’m about to do brakes and wondering what I should do for SBC
Yes, I unplugged the connector to the SBC pump
Did you also replaced the camshaft bridge with new bolt?
Bought the exact same kit. Gonna do this next week myself😊
This is crazy! Cool technique! Gonna have to try it! And to guy mentioned turning cyl thats Pretty cool saved me taking off the heads.. if compression is good on my engine ill try this burning oil i have 221k miles. Thanks bro.
Way to save your mama!
Fabulous video, looking forward to part 2 👍👍
when the rear muffler hanger breaks that what damages the flex pipe.
Hi - you made that look easy! Did you need to bleed the rear brake lines? If so, how did you do this? Similarly....did you need to bleed the hydraulic suspension after changing the accumulators? How is the consumer battery in the back of the car - does it run down quickly? Sometimes the battery control module can have issues...especially if anybody has ever made the mistake of disconnecting the front battery before disconnecting the consumer battery, hooking a battery charger directly to the front or rear battery....or worse still trying to jump start from the rear battery. Good luck with this resto. Mike
Did you remove the Chain tensioner or just removed the Rockerarms without removing the Chain tensioner?
Even though I don't like the way it was originally "fixed", I don't think that arm provides any additional safety. That arm is just to provide the right geometry. The trailing arm, the lower control arm and the shock absorber are the main bearing structures of the rear suspension. Glad that you replace the whole subframe
This arm controls the rear toe angle. My thought is that if the weld breaks loose on the highway, the wheel could toe out sharply. At speed, I feel like it could cause some damage. Such as losing control of vehicle and causing an accident. Either way, I agree with you, I’m glad it has a new subframe too.
I believe you're right, especially if it ever fails. Cause if you've ever dealt with a rear bent toe arm, you know that feel is sending your steering sideways. @@OnlyKelp
What on earth could've been the reason to weld a control arm bolt like that?
I have exactly the same problem for a Slk 350. I find anyone to do it.. so the problem is still there
So convenient to be next to FCPeuro if you have to ship your parts back. I’m in the west coast and shipping 5L oil costs more than half its price. Hopefully a return center opens in their AZ facility.
good work!
