Vivien Leigh: The Early Life Album (Full Version)
To continue remembering Vivien Leigh on her birthday anniversary week, we thought it would be nice to share with our fellow fans a video of the Vivien Leigh’s Early Life Album in its entirety.
This album was acquired by the Vivien Leigh Circle at the Sotheby's auction in September 2017. It was part of the Vivien Leigh Collection, Lot #1, which comprises of two photo albums; the first one features portraits and candid photographs of Leigh from 1914 to 1929 in India, Roehampton, Dinard and San Remo. It provides a nostalgic snapshot of Vivien’s life during her formative years.
The second album contains pictures associated with horses and horse racing in India (her father’s passion) but not featured on the video.
These albums were acquired thanks to funds donated by our members and other contributors.
Both albums were donated to the V&A museum on Monday 9 July 2018, where they will be preserved for posterity.
They reside at Blythe House, home of the Vivien Leigh Archive (acquired by the V&A in 2013) and they are part of the recently created VLC Archive, that the V&A opened exclusively for us to donate our collections. Both Vivien Leigh Archives and VLC archives are located in the Theatre and Performance archives.
Blythe House is open to the public and requires online registration (link below) to enable the reader access to these fascinating archives.

If you wish to view this album, as well as many photographs and letters VLC already donated to the V&A, they are under the reference code THM/530.
We hope you enjoy this video we created especially to share with you all. As fans ourselves we feel that it was a social duty to let everyone see these treasures, especially for people living abroad and unable to visit UK.

Loved this video ! Thank you for sharing ! Kudos to all those invovled ! Especially loved that background music. Wonderful that the Vivien Leigh footage from this 1953 Paramount production can be seen ! It's such a heartbreaking story behind he making of this movie. Poor Vivien suffered a nervous breakdown & had to be replaced by Elizabeth Taylor. Ms Taylor was good in her role, but Vivian (with her maturity & experience) would have offered up a more powerful performance (at least I think so). Vivian was clearly bipolar or manic/depressive & probably could have been helped greatly if today's medications for that condition were available back then. So sad.... 😞

Vivien Leigh did not age that badly she was still attractive, but in her prime nobody could beat her beauty and the best Actress to come out of England.

"An Angel from a Childhood" You are my angel! In the childhood in a dream - far away, I saw you and fell in love. In the lunar translucent haze - a lonely image ... - Fluffy snow moves smoothly over the surface of the earth. From all sides gently blowing fresh air. The night languished in an easy awakening. Everything around moves in a mysterious range of subtle forms. - You were that sweet vision! You sang songs to me, with slow movements of the palm threw Snowflakes. They enchantingly danced the waltz in the air. The voice was sonorous, sensual, charming, unearthly. He caressed the rumor with divine intoxication. After, my fairy whispered in my ear, Telling a wonderful fairy tale, The air stream tickles him with a light breath. At the same time, gently tickling his eyes and hair on his head. The wonderful image of my heart quietly disappeared: He retired like a fantastic comet - Upward, where the brilliance of the stars is boundlessly connected With eternity. "And I'm sad to think about this now." 26 - 27. 07. 2017 (K.S.) St. Petersburg Author: Alexander Ern (KS) Dedicated to - Vivien Leigh
