Wife’s Tiguan was getting hard to start. Had to push the button multiple times to get the car started. Pulled it apart and gave it a clean with isopropyl alcohol. Works perfectly now.

Hat auch bei meinem Knopf (Sharan/Alhambra) problemlos funktioniert. Der Knopf hatte noch zwei silberne Klammern, die man runterschieben musste. Danach konnte man alle Plastikklammern öffnen. Für den Ausbau des Knopfes aus der Konsole gibt es ein anderes Video.
Rien de spécial à voir ici seulement un copier d’une vidéo déjà pas juste 1) on utilise du triclo pas de l’alcool à brûler qui est gras 2) on mais du spray contacte 3) on contrôle le contact 4) on remonte après 🎉😢😅🎉

thanks for posting this. Still useful after 2 years! Did this today and saved over A$300 the dealer wanted for a replacement installation. For others, there are two metal clips on the switch housing that also need be removed. A bit tricky but I eventually got them past the little tabs that hold them onto the switch body!
I had this challenge too today, to remove those metal clips. Did it with small count and solid push out move.
Worked a treat, thanks. Used contact cleaner.

Just cleaned my 2017 Tiguan stop start too.. And yes.. Now works perfectly. Ridiculous you pay so much money for a vw and they continue to use a flawed stop start button...
Yes, service department wanted $350aud for replacement
I didn’t have any alcohol on hand, so just used the same method as you but water instead of alcohol and it still worked. The button on my golf r works like brand new again now

I've since sold the car but I remember i had to pop some clip out. Wasnt too difficult

2014 button housing has 4 plastic clips that hold it together, plus two metal clips not shown/seen here. Those metal clips must be pushed through/removed as well. Can't post pictures here, but once they came out it was a breeze, with the 4 plastic clips. While working with it the button fell off, but it has a keyway so can only snap back on one way. Same for reassembling button housing back into console. There's 3 keyways and the 4th is omitted, so it will only go back in one way. Excellent video, and helpful hints from others below in this comment section. Use the toothpick idea, SUCH a helpful hint. I had a set of jeweler's mini screwdrivers jammed in, and it was clumsy but worked.

10x a lot for the video. Works great now on my eGolf. It saved me from replacing a good button. It was really difficult to take the button out. You have to take a lot of parts out in order to take out the button without damage. Big minus for VW for serviceability.

I have also problem on my egolf 2019, sometimes i need to push the button 10 times to start the car. Was it same for you? Have you fix it this way?

Another fixed button on an egolf. Lost the two clips inside the gear shifter housing but managed to recover one with a magnet on a stick. VW would have probably charged about 1-300 pounds for this. It's probably faulty by design as outside dirt is unlikely to reach that part. Just a case of lift up gear shifter housing from top, unclip start button by reaching thin flat head into clip and pulling, cleaning as per this video and putting back. About 10 mins work.
@@0-Will-0hi,when you unclip the cable will the switch assembly just push up towards you with pressure up or do I have to reach in and squeeze the two silver clips at the same time whilst pushing up .thanks
Thank you! Worked perfectly for me. Since there are 4 clips on each side that must be lifted sort of simultaneously, I used a wooden toothpick, broken in pieces, to leave a small piece on each side which made it easier to keep them all lifted when pulling apart. Good luck and good project
