    I had cubase 5 , then went to nuendo 1 and 2, the went to cubase. I really loved old school cubase and I really loved the early Nuendo. but because of the upgrade cost to Nuendo, I went to Logic. it's been a struggle with logic for 15 years, and am thinking of going to cubase 13, they have a sweet cross grade going on now. but I always hear that Ableton is the king of drum n bass and techno. any thoughts ?

    • @Jamusictv

      Keep it low for 90 percent of the time with frequent breaks. And low means low enough to be in the room and having a conversation while the music plays in the headphones but you can still hear the conversation. I only turn it up for short periods to hear any harshness at louder volumes.

    Dude, I really enjoyed seeing you demonstrating your implementation of the CTZ-method. That was exactly what I looked for as I am also (like you said about yourself) more of a creative producer and I really needed a video of a person with a more pleasing and direct presentation of the topic. As much as I am thankful for Baphometrix (or as you call her: Blasformetrix haha) and her awesome work, I get headaches and slightly angry for a few reasons after a short while watching her videos. A thing I think to have noticed throughout your video, for example at minute 39:25, is that you seem to sometimes overdo the clipping and introduce hearable distortion or resonance which can't be wanted. I mention this because you said afterwards that no one will hear a difference even though there is a big difference. Anyway, great content man, I also had to laugh a few times about your funny comments, keep it up, I subscribed!

    • @Jamusictv
      @Jamusictv 2 місяці тому

      Thanks brother ! Yeah that’s my NyC accent over pronouncing the FO in the name lol. Guilty. Yeah I think I was using my older set up which was hiding some of those pesky distortion peaks. I also am a bit addicted to sometimes over crunchy drums. Lol glad you got some use out of this video. I like what Baph did for the community. But I’m not an ultra technical person so like you the videos can get somewhat heady. I like to just be as direct as I can with my approach. Thanks for the support.

      @@Jamusictv You are very welcome! I have a presumably easy to answer question, I am just too overwhelmed by all the new informations that are turning my whole production process upside down in a good way. Maybe you can help me with this: I got a clipper on most of my tracks and I am just fascinated how much one is able to clip off an element (for example a snare) without loosing information, sound or adding distortion. On my snare e.g. my Clipper can take add 10db input gain and cuts a few unneeded transients away. Now the question: Do I then reduce the Output in the Clipper also by 10db (linked)? Because if I do this with most of my elements, all my tracks are at exactly 0db and in summary everything is extremely clipping. Hope u can understand my maybe not so bright question haha

    • @senfmutvonwegen5449
      @senfmutvonwegen5449 2 місяці тому

      nevermind, i just figured it out. I'll leave my question anyways, maybe someone else is as stupid as me haha. After figuring out the perfect amount of input gain/clipping you put the output back to 0db. Then you just have to gainstage every element again after adding the clippers, so if you do the method on an mixed project you have to mix it again with the faders after adding clippers etc.

    • @Jamusictv
      @Jamusictv 2 місяці тому

      No such thing as stupid questions especially when you are flipping your entire production style around. It can be confusing

    • @Jamusictv
      @Jamusictv 2 місяці тому

      Word. So yeah once you clip to zero the outputs can be adjusted to taste so that don’t overload your master. The point is that you are getting all of your sources at optimal levels to see what they are going to sound like loud asf. Lol

    The best thing for me is the automation section! So intuitiv and smooth fast. Just click any parameter and the automation lane shows up under the track. But not activated yet. One more click and you can go. Amazing. And all the other tools are so musical. I miss the chain mixer view too but on the other hand it prevents me from mixing to early. I’m using way less plugins also! I’m in love

    Personally, I use Luna only only for final mixing and mastering because it lacks in terms of built in plugins like a sampler, virtual instruments or normal EQ, compressors that are not emulation of vintage gear that colour the sound. What I’m doing is that I make my tracks in Bitwig and when everything is done and I get a rough mix that is OK, I export all the individual audio stems without effects to Luna for final mixing and mastering. This whole analog desk and multitrack tape emulation that is integrated within Luna’s mixer is very unique. In other DAWs you have to put those channel strips, bus summing, bus compressor, tape saturators in plugins slots. Then when you are mixing, you have to click on each individual plugin instances to see what’s going on and make changes. In Luna, it’s all integrated within the mixer view, you see what’s going on and can make changes on the fly without having to click every single plugin instances. It’s so seamless that some people are saying that they like Luna’s sound better than other DAW’s sound when in reality the « sound » they are referring to is the combined effect of all those UA plugins that emulate a complete analog desk with a multitrack recorder.

    • @Jamusictv
      @Jamusictv 3 місяці тому

      @@Pintosonic agreed. The setup and workflow lends itself to develop a great sound without all the hassles of clicking on each plugin etc. and the color you get is very nice and goes a long way. But yeah like you said a daw just operates on zeros and ones so without any plugins you just have the same sound across the board. Thanks for the comment.

    Templates are great...but not as cool as seeing the whole session file. The only templates I've ever used are the ones I make myself. Mixing is a moving target. Mixing vocals for one beat will not be the same for another beat. Especially beats. Because Artistesesesiz just be picking random free beats. With bands or singer songwriters, it's totally different. Especially if you're the one recording everything. If you're using templates. Learn from them in the context and the song they were used on. Others, build your own so that you can save time with clients, so they're not waiting on you to do basic bs.

    • @Jamusictv

      Agreed. Sessions files are super cool. Being able to see what was done is much more valuable then having a template because like you said boosting 80k saturating it and then doing x y z may not sound good on all tracks.

    Almost all the records are so well produced they don’t do much and it’s just unfortunate. That Mastering bald guy who uses only PRO-Q3 on a song and calls it. Not that does not what it simply needs but I think he should not be back on. The f is that? Like you said, JJ, LB, and a CLA are incredible! Love those guys! CLA flows like it’s nothing! but yeah! Yes, these mix engineers on MWTM get tracks from the best musicians and recording engineers and producers in the world. I watched the guy mix the Bowie track and he opened the raw session he received, then he set a basic fader balance, and it was like WOW. It sounded finished already. All he ended up doing was putting some reverb on vocals and saxophone. I learned nothing about dealing with the challenges I face during mixing, all I learned was to make sure you work with great musicians and engineers and get it right at the source.

    • @Jamusictv
      @Jamusictv 4 місяці тому

      Agreed. I think the risk that MWTM has not managed well is getting big names but not vetting for the education process and what we the consumer are paying to see. If you get a guy coming just showing basic level set up and taking about vibes , that’s not worth the value you are paying into. And like you said most real world everyday applications, we won’t be working with top of the heap. Atleast 99 percent of the time.
