      Unfortunately, I don't think you can find Regular 8mm film, maybe on Ebay but it would be very old film. Super 8mm came after which they still make those cartridges today but not for a spool camera such as this. Hope this helps, I would love to shoot with it.

    I love a good knockoff kislux because it helps me decide if I want to buy the real thing. That’s the part. That’s it. I feel like people discriminate against knockoffs, but for me, I’ll pause when buying a trendy big-ticket item or when I feel the over-consumption frenzy is coming for me.

    Hey thanks for doing the video! Question for you - I want to use this to do talking head videos at my desk, trying to decide between the F21 and F22, is this large enough get a nice soft light on you for talking head stuff? Or do you wish you got the larger one?

    • @theconstantaperture
      @theconstantaperture 3 місяці тому

      I use it mostly for a backlight. I have used it as a top soft, directional key light (with the eggcrate) before. "My Leica M4 " video was shot like that. I don't have experience with the F22.

    • @EmreYazgin
      @EmreYazgin Місяць тому

      I wanted to chime in, I own a f22c, it's very very soft especially if you use it close to subject. It's soft even without the clothes. I use the clothes when I see reflections of the light and I don't like the look of the reflection of multiple led lights. If I don't see them, I don't even need to put the clothes on to make is soft, its already soft because there are many less distributed on a wide area. I highly recommend this product. I Will also get a smaller f21x version as a second light. By the way the most impressive side of these lights is the quality of their color production. The food videos produced are way better than any other light I owned (mostly point source lights from amazon, aputure). Its really a fantastic product.

    Back when I was a press photographer in California back in the 80's and 90's this bag was THEE bag! All the press photogs had them. IF someone showed up with anything that was made of nylon or polyester, that meant they were just a reporter pretending to be a photographer. They would be shunned even if we worked for the same paper. lol.

      Hello, for the price it’s a great value. It’s also very compact as you know. I actually used it on very few occasions since I do mostly portraits etc. on a couple of commercial jobs it came in handy. I think as a walk around lens, travel etc. it’s a great option. My go to lenses are the 45-100mm and the 110mm. The 45mm prime is awesome, I’ve rented it a couple of times. Hope this rambling helps!

    I've owned 2 M2 (1type 1 and a type3) an original M6 but always lusted after an M4. Finally picked one up on Ebay a couple of years ago. I had the shutter rebuilt etc with Sherry Krauter in NY. It's my favorite M Leica and it brings me happiness when I shoot with it. Best wishes on your M4.

    Hi Paul. Would you find any value today in this tool? I’ve used cadridge but it just doesn’t feel personal. The idea of looking into a viewfinder such as the mark v sounds like the way to go but nowadays they go for 500 and that’s so much. Have you noticed significant difference in switching to cadridge from the mark v ? Pros and cons? Thank you so much

      @@jcon654 Hello, well before cool apps I used The Mark V. Honestly the app nowadays is probably better. Good for location scout reports and general DP notes. I will say it looks cooler than a phone like our Hollywood idols wore in American Cinematographer magazine. I wear glasses now and it would be harder to use. I haven’t used it in years and sold it. If you can find a deal on one it may be worth having. It’s made very well too. Hope this helps!

      @@theconstantaperture great input I super appreciate it. Yeah I’m trying to find every reason to buy it partly because of nostalgia like to what you’re saying about our heroes wearing them but also because I wonder if looking through the glass and shutting out the rest of the world might offer something that could be beneficial to learning the craft. Soon I’ll be directing and dping a proof of concept at a micro budget level so I won’t need to utilize the awesome benefits of the apps. Ah decisions decisions. Thanks again I really appreciate it

    The lighting Karsh used was probably a modified Rambrandt using just a single bare Tungsten light most probably with a fresnel as the main ( you can see the concentrated hotspot on the forehead) and probably a couple of smaller ones to light up from the rear. I doubt very much if he used a beauty dish or strips of any sort. He also used 8X10 camera which gave him great amount of latitude in his interpretaion of the negative. Your results are close, but sadly no cigar.

    What’s annoying about the 6x8 back is that most of the opening of rb67 is still 6x7, so the 6x8 film back really is a waste of film, where you’ll only get 9 shots out of a roll instead of 10

    • @theconstantaperture

    • @zzzZniitemareZzzz

      Its even worse than that. Yeah, you either need a proSD body or a pros that has had a 6x8 baffle put in (extremely rare but exists), but the main issue is that only some of the lenses have good enough coverage for 6x8. The 50mm for example, is one of the ones where im pretty sure the corners are just barely in the image circle for 6x8, so they would be pretty poor in image quality.

    The thing to remember is that this is really the 1st real camera bag designed by working photographers. Because it's canvas, you could easily use a wax based waterproofing product such as Sno Seal or an easy to apply spray such as NikWax. These hold up very well. The basic design works well enough that it has pretty much stayed exactly the same since 1976.
