      Yes, it ended up being the multi-function switch (turn signal switch). It’s really common on these to cause all types of weird problems. I replaced it 40k ago and haven’t had any problems since

    Love the attention to detail on this build. I bought my OBS a few months back and was surprised at the lack of off-road aftermarket. Basically just tacky, heavy bumpers and stupid headlight designs. Keep up the good work on this build so I can keep stealing your ideas!

    • @78SilverBronco
      @78SilverBronco 3 місяці тому

      Thanks!! I definitely agree, lots of garbage in the aftermarket, nothing really tailored to off-road other than flimsy lift kits. I just finished up swapping the front knuckles in from a 2000 and brake calipers/rotors from a 2007. Really helped the stopping power but I’m dealing with some alignment issues as a result (maybe a little bump steer too). Still sorting that one out.

    My '96 Tahoe 4x4 is in beautiful shape, much as yours is. I am in the process of upgrading the brakes, (replacing the old rear drums etc.). Its a challenge to do this and avoid having to go off shore. Would like to stay with US manufacturers and increase rotor and caliper sizes. A bigger master cylinder is easy to source on shore. if anyone is reading this and has experience with this, I'm all ears! Finally, thanks for sharing your Tahoe. Its a beautiful example!

      Thanks! I just did a brake upgrade myself. I sourced knuckles from a 2000 Tahoe, brake calipers and rotors from a 2007, and did a full front suspension rebuild. They clear 17’s and stop much better than factory. I’m also running the 2000-2006 master cylinder.

      No problem! Glad to help! You will need to also snag the brake hoses for a 2000-2006 and run an adapter from 3/8 to 7/16 brake line inverted flare fitting. If you can’t find an adapter (I made one) just get a stainless braided hose. If you run into any snags just ping me on the comments and I’ll try to help. The upper ball joint hole on the 2000 knuckle will need to be reamed out with a 2 degree per foot tapered team. Very easy to do, I got one on Amazon for $65. Put it in my drill and went slowly until the 88-99 balljoint seated on it.

      @78SilverBronco 7 місяців тому

      Thanks! I did a 2” tapered block in the rear and a torsion crank up front. Not much difference in ride, I only raised it about 1.5” in the front. Pretty capable for what it is, the biggest limitation is the true trac rear diff. I highly recommend a selectable locker after pushing the true trac to its limits.

      @@78SilverBroncois the true trac an aftermarket Locker ? Is it like the gm g80 Eaton or different ? Sweet vid btw, keep Em coming , 96 Burb here 4x4, but no locking rear, but want one

    • @78SilverBronco
      @78SilverBronco 6 місяців тому

      @@bradc5433 Yeah the true trac is an aftermarket mechanical limited slip. It’s a Torsen style diff whereas the G80 is an inertia locker and generally pretty fragile. I just picked up an ARB air locker and plan to see how that works out. The true trac was great up until you fully unload a tire, then it just spins. Most people say you can modulate brakes to make it lock, but if your already articulated with limited traction, applying the brakes is the last thing you really wanna have to do.

      Thanks! It took a bit of work to get it looking halfway decent but fortunately parts are pretty inexpensive for these. They are actually decent for overlanding, lots of room for sleeping inside and hauling gear. The big drawback is that 10 bolt rear axle, if you can snag a 14 bolt SF and run a selectable locker, there isn’t much that will trip you up on the trails.

I know it's got an aftermarket clutch and the transmission was rebuilt with a "stronger" first and 2nd gear but whether that's ratio wise or just material I really don't know. I also *just* discovered (okay, re discovered because I knew I'd seen it before) it's got a hole in the passenger floor board which sucks add it to the list 😂. It's not fast but it's the most fun I've ever had in a car. The Camaro is an extreme love hate. I love it. It hates me. The car has _never_ run right and now the motor is fully dead. Wiped a cam lobe out. The two most important men in my life (my father and my Pappaw (mom's dad), who owned the Camaro and Fox before his passing ) worked for Ford so I was kinda raised up to never buy a non UAW car 😂 no disrespect to anyone who buys anything else though

      Man that Fox sounds like a riot! They are really getting hard to find these days. Hopefully the floor pan isn’t too bad, LMR usually sells most of that stuff. Any further plans with it or just cruising it? Back when I had mine, doing the Cobra brake upgrade was the best thing I did to the car. Those 4 lug brakes were terrible from the factory. Oh no! Wiping out a cam lobe is the absolute worst. Was this on a fresh engine? When I rebuilt the 400 in my bronco, I went roller just to avoid any chance of taking out a cam lobe. It just made me too nervous with the quality of flat tappet lifters these days.

    Stereo setup is cool. I like the idea of the rear adjustment you got going.

    You can stop rear spring bind up by directly clamping a piece of flat bar steel to the front half of the leaf spring. Zero clearance issues with no binding.
