We can actually do these moves! They look fancy, but you break them down so precisely that even my two left feet can do them. I am now out on the dance floor having fun with my partner. Thank you!!
Great video! I look forward to trying these! They look a little fancier than some of the usual moves without requiring aerial lifts 👍🏻
This is a great video! Straight to the point too! No super looong intro! Love it!
I'm going to a social swing dancing cafe with some friends soon and I'm a little nervous. Any advice?
This is hard to watch. Little too much pulling and tugging.
I’m doing a dance unit in pe and I’m not sure what swing dance we’re learning because the moves we learned are called: Overhead slide and catch( banana peel) Pretzel Wrap and real ease Dish rag Under arm turn
I'm going to be going to a ball soon with a girl that I really like. I wish I had a partner I could practice on so I can arrive knowing what I'm doing xD Great tutorial
Looks like a judo class not dancing (and no music).
the way that i go from one hand to two hands after the slide is the guy spins me and then spins me again, while letting go and then catching me after i’m done with the spin with the other hand. it requires trust but it’s fun!
i have to do this in school :/
perfect
Love your videos - I appreciate you chemistry - also , I can see where some experience in Judo & Aikido would be helpful lol
Love this tutorial - well demonstrated .
This entire series of videos is wonderful, notwithstanding unprovoked sniping by self-proclaimed know-it-alls. If you folks don't like them, why watch and also, why attack these nice people, who have done nothing to hurt you? Being bitter and ungracious is a really crummy way to go through life. Thanks, Katie and Craig, for your hard work in making and posting these interesting and very helpful videos.
Hi Katherine! I can not thank you enough for posting these videos :) My fiance and I were really struggling to find a dance instructor in our price range for our wedding, and we were on a short timeline to learn how to dance. We were able to watch your video series and put together our wedding dance in 3 hours the weekend before our wedding! I love the simplicity and breakdown of the moves it made it super easy, fun and stress free to learn how to dance:) Thank you, you are a total life saver:) I'd love to send the video to you, what is the best way to connect?
on the hand twister if you keep your hands higher it goes into the window a lot smoother. If you take your hand out of the window and reconnect below your arm you will only have to spin her once the other way to get into the opposite window. Its not as showy but seems to be easier to make smooth
Lmao this guy looks like my schools vice principal
Teacher actually
What type of swing is this?
Country swing
I practiced these moves with a broomstick (with two yarn hands tied on) until I was sound enough to use my roommate as a dummy, so now I'm set to impress my Wednesday night date at the dance! Thanks!
Video cuts off the dancers feet. Hard to tell what they are doing.
Don't mind me while I compose a dance for Crazy=Genius...
I old school two step does anyone show it in these vidios
I love the series you guys posted! Very helpful :) Thank you!
If yall know so much about this stuff then why are you watching these beginner videos ?!? To all the judgement in the comments
Thanks so much--- Big Help!
Don't listen to the bad comments. I saw your videos and they gave me so much confidence to take a girl out to the dance floor, and she loved it! Thank you guys so much for putting these up; they helped tons! God bless you both!
The way you are teaching these move are very bad for your body. The lead will hurt his back or the follow will hurt her shoulders or both!!!
+knittgeek you're probably totally correct! Craig and I are just 4-H volunteers trying to bring dancing fun back for our youth and teens. We clearly state this is a beginning video and a starting place. We have never had formal training.
I'm doin a dance routine for school I might use this!
WTF is this video? Really bad...

Katherine Feldhues A Beginner video would talk about swing basics. Like literally the basic step in whatever style you like, then it might get into like an underarm turn. These figures wouldn't even be taught at a proper studio until you talked about connection/lead/follow etc... You are calling it a beginner's video and starting with lesson 25 out of 1000. The first 15 lessons are more important than the last 985... Not a good way to get people into dance, as someone with no dance experience will have no idea how to even begin to approach what you are showing.
Yanking her arms, random steps to not beat at all, terrible form, terrible lead, closed hands on spins? These videos are hardly instructional.

Aye sweethart whats your number? Dont tell your husband

***** naw. Just her puss
Great instructional videos!!! Thanks for creating and sharing.
in my swing class, our basic is COMPLETELY different, and the slide is called American Twist, and after you're holding hands, you walk around in a circle, sorta like square dancing, but hands held as before, and you wave your other hand
Hi Katherine! Just wanted to let you know, my husband and I have tried many how to's for country dancing and yours are the only ones that we can keep up with and apply! Thanks for sharing :)
I've been told it's New York hustle, but it's now being used for country swing dancing and I love it! I've been working in lift for a Long time and ended up getting tendonitis in my rotator cuff and bicep so it's kept me from the lifts, but your videos have given me some ideas on adding variations to my swing dance style without using lifts! Thanks!

Yeah, that's not swing dancing, that's "New York Hustle". :-)
Just so you know, you're actually dancing "New York Hustle" a partner dance form the 1970s that's danced to disco music. "The Pretzel" also isn't an advanced move, it's a beginner move, since most beginners learn it in about 5 minutes. :-)
Thanks lindyhop411 ! We weren't 100% sure where all of these came from. We are teaching random fun mixes of swing dance moves at some Ohio 4-H functions and at a recreation leadership workshop called Buckeye Leadership Workshop. Having more history is helpful! We just want to get people up and moving and having fun!
We think all of the moves are beginner moves which is why we are attempting to teach them (since we, ourselves, are not experts!) We hope to teach a variety of moves like this through 1 hour sessions for 4 consecutive days.
Katherine Feldhues You might want to look up some of the basic instructional videos of country two step as well as east coast swing, and perhaps even waltz. Country music has a variety of rhythms and one dance doesn't fit all. :-)
well depends on who your teaching lol :)
