Are you a communist lil buddy?
Is he still putting out this zine? Haven’t seen it in a while
@@scooterlibbie yes
Dude wtf are on?
It was 4 years ago, but probably a chair.
@@MultiDoc8404 😁
my friend and i have been talking about making a zine together, so of course youtube started recomending me videos about zines. when i started this video, you just seemed so familiar. then i realized who you are! spring 2017 i took your comp II class and i remember making zines for our final project :D thanks for introducing me to the concept of zines and for this wonderful resource!
@blazing_orchids Ha! So good to hear from you, but especially with you looking to keep the zine flames burning. Don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions!
I have only just seen this - What a great interview, Mark is top bloke and very knowledgeable about a lot of subjects all connected to his work - very talented man and its wonderful to see your face Chris, its been a long time. The Luton experience was something else especially the Mayor turning up and having a listen and also preaching back the lyrics to Steve Spon at one point. He did say it felt very strange having his own words presented in that way and was trying to figure in his head where the chord structure would go round it - interesting chap. Great day. Wonderful experience.. Thanks for asking me to do it Mark
@@russcrimewave You know Mark's in Pensacola now, and we're trying to find a way to get me to the UK. If it works out, we'll hit the pub Russ. Mark and I were talking very fondly of you. We'll all get a drink, friend. So good to hear from you!
@@MultiDoc8404 Yes mate been following it on whatever social media im still allowed on. It would be wonderful to see you over here and yes lets get a drink if we can. I live over the other side of the country but its very doable. Take it easy til we catch up my friend.
MY MOMMA ITS MY MOMMA
It makes me kind of sad to hear zines referred to as "crappy". Crappy's kind of subjective, and there's enough discouragement in the world as it is without turning self-expression into something that's judged as good enough or crappy. (There are zines that aren't to my own personal aesthetic preference, but the value's really more in the making, IMHO.) That said, this is a really good tutorial. I miss old-school glue stick and scissor nights. :D. (My first was in 1989, since i'm pretty much an ancient fossil at this point.)
Good points. My first ones were scrappy, but people liked them. I did back then, so you make a good point. Thanks for sharing
This video is incredible! I have been using your method of writing analysis papers since I saw this, and it is so helpful. Not only do I write essays much more efficiently, but I have also seen my work improve in quality and that quality has shown in my grades. Thank you so much for this!
Thank you! That makes my day!
I loved Maggot Sandwich, so cool to see this interview. I was 12ish in mid 80s and could only get my hands on bootleg cassettes of them live. I listened to them ALL the time. I ended up getting all their cassettes from a record shop off Navy Blvd. I was also on their mailing list and remember getting mailers from them and Mike Danger etc. I was playing guitar, but because of these guys I ended up moving to bass and played bass until I developed muscular dystrophy and could no longer hold my arms up to play.
Thanks for sharing this story. I am glad you like the interview
you ate professor!
I eat!
Very cool. Thank you so much!!
*Promosm* 👌
fucking amazing show.
I don't have an income, but I'm lucky enough to have a computer, and since the physical supplies I have are what have been gifted to me, I've decided I'm going to make an ugly digital rough draft in Paint Dot Net, a free photoshot-like program, and then I'll make the master copy by hand so I don't waste anything drafting and changing up the format a ton with my limits supplies. This video made me want to work on it more, which is cool. All the other videos I've seen on zines make it seem so unattainable.
i reallyyy loved this video! i started making zines just recently, this makes me even more excited and inspired to make zines!
hhhh I am leaving my footprint here. Miki says hi from China!
I love that you’re showing the old school methods. 😊 By the way, what was the name of that person you mentioned who did a call-to-arms about not putting out crappy zines? I can’t understand the name you’re saying there, and the transcript doesn’t seem to be correct (searched the name it presented and got nothing related )?
Aaron Cometbus was the author of "Call to Arms." It's hard to find online, but you can reach out to him and he'll send you a copy. You can find his USPS mailing address by searching for his zine "Cometbus." It's worth reading.
Thanks for the nice words!
Maggot sandwich one of my favorites along with youth bridge
Thanks gad for men. This was so damn helpful. I didn't know if I'd ever learn the basics I didn't need another person's artsiness in my face when I just needed the basics . ❤
I want to live in a room that looks like this! Ahhhhh beautiful. Thank you for this post on zines and the original way it’s done…. Awesome 👏 awesome 👏
Man. Your walls and ceiling look amazing.
This was super helpful for me. I’m not skilled in using graphic design software, and I kept seeing people using that to make their zines. You showing your process made a lightbulb go off in my head. I feel even more excited to jump into zine making. Thank you!
lovely introduction to zines. Found a copy of cometbus 49 along with crates and crates of zines from the early 80s-2005
Great old school way. Reminds me of the 80’s and the zine i did with friends.
I HOPE THE AIR CONDITIONER WAS BLASTING AWAY
This was incredibly helpful - thank you!
Thanks so much for this vid! I felt a little out of my depth with most other zine videos and I was aiming for something more DIY as well. This vid was super helpful in getting me started.
Saw them live at the old Handlebar on Tarragona back in 1998, they effin rocked!!!
Being doing zines since the 80's, the old ways. And that's fine by me.
Thank you for posting this!
Very inspiring and timely for me. Thank you very much.
Wish i could do colour zines man. Not even ny school has a colour printer 😭😭😭
So good love her!! I hate that I was at work for this😞
This is awesome! Glad i found this! best zine tutorial I've seen!
2yrs later and the algorythm gets it right 👍...just what I was looking for
Rad, thank you for doing this! I miss those days! We fwd life too fast in the early 2000 and lost personal and personality connections in my view. This is also the timeline when people stopped writing and only typed.
I appreciate your video, and your taste in hats
I know you posted this years ago but I wanna say thank you! This was inspiring and helpful 😊 I've been planning some Zines and now I'm diving into the creating part. Also I really like your personality and excitement about Zines <3
Thank you so much! I appreciate your comment. I hope you make a meaningful zine. <3
The book's impact and legacy are undeniable. A very readable work, it is almost a "page turner." Do you consider to meet the criteria to be considered the "Great American Novel"?
It's definitely a page-turner, and was even when it was originally written. I feel the book stands the test of time, but considering the book is a work of non-fiction (to our knowledge), I wouldn't consider it a novel by definition. I do consider it a class American book, though. Thanks for the comment.
@@MultiDoc8404 Thank you.
Can you please guide me Was Stowe a racist in her presentation of African Americans in the novel. It’s my task please provide me to the point detail.
All you need to do is read the last chapters of the book to see where she thought African Americans should move. Do that, and you'll have your answer.
Thank you so much. I don’t have the privilege of photoshop but I got a copier at work and some scissors and glue.

These zines are as old-fashioned as a delectable tray of old-fashioned croissants straight out the oven
Hurray, thanks for this brilliant video. I really want to make a zine and have an idea. Now it seems like I might actually be able to do it. Many thanks for the Inspiration and your positivity.
thank you from Brasil!
Great video! Exactly what I was looking for
So cool. I don't think I have any relation, but our family are Cudjos of the Black Seminoles.
This is wonderful
I never considered creating a zine back in the 1990s. The few zines in Northern Virginia, were punk related, and I contributed to them from time-to-time.
Very cool! I am having my young students make poetry zines for a summer project, and I think it's neat to give them a little history about what they will be making.
