Roland HP 335 Note Repair
How to repair a broken key on a Roland HP 335 Digital Piano.
This video was shot on two occasions when I was repairing a broken hammer on my aging HP 335. The first time I removed the front panel, which sits in front of the keys. However, I found that this is NOT necessary, so didn't mention it in the video.
After watching this short video I hope that you are able to tackle the job.

Roland XP60 Battery Replacement
Переглядів 16 тис.6 років тому
How to replace the internal battery of a Roland XP60 keyboard In this video I show how to replace the internal battery in a Roland XP60 keyboard, including how to do a data dump so as not to lose any data you might have stored in the internal memory. The music in the background is called 'Sometime Somewhere...' from an album of the same name. www.keithstead.com
Hi, how did you detach the plate that's in front of the keys? (The one facing the piano player). I have successfully replaced some keys but others have a little notch that hooks underneath for some reason.. so i cant get them out by simply lifting them like the other keys
Very useful video, thank you! I just replaced my XP-60 battery after almost 25 years!
Great video man! You helped me fix mine. thank you!
Thank you for your feedback. I'm really pleased the video was helpful.
Thanks for the video! I to have the XP-60 with this problem! Going to change it out tonight! Do you have any recommendations on refurbishing the buttons? Thanks again!
Took my old XP out of storage (it still sounds pretty good!) and your video helping me out. Thanks!
Thanks. Your video helped me replace the battery in my xp80 although alas it still won't boot up with the new battery fitted.
I'm sorry to hear your XP80 won't boot up. It might be worth having a Roland dealer check it over.
What kind of battery did you install?
I used a CR 2032 battery (see 4'13''). I recommend getting a good brand that you know.
@@keithstead5175 Thank You
I would like to thank you so kindly for this video, I was getting this message and i thought my keyboard was dying on my had it for years and did not want to let her go, they just don’t make great sounds like the XP anymore. Thank you very much, she is working like brand new 🫶🏽
My xp60 don't have sound anymore when plug in to speaker even the power is on and screen is on.
Carlos, Did you get resolved? My XP-80 just started doing the same.
@@bloodhut not yet. It might be antique to be pass on

Thank you so much!!! I thought I was done!!! I love my XP60.....now it's back to life!!
Sir can you make This video again in Hindi language 🙏🙏🙏 please this is very important video 🙏🙏🙏
I had given up on my KR370 from 1996, thinking the stuck key was beyond repair until I stumbled upon this video. I was going to throw it away as I never thought I would be able to fix this myself. I just did, following your tutorial and also ordered in some spare parts in case the superglue wears off or other hammer actions break down as I start pounding on the keys again! Now this piano has another lease of life. Thank you Keith!
That's fantastic. I'm glad my video was helpful. I have found that the hammers I repaired with superglue haven't yet broken again - yet - but other notes break with annoying regularity.
Hello Thanks for info but for my Roland HP 137r its not possible glue it its made by metal , all hammer bottom parts I already opened key area lift it but no resoult 😒 still no sounds after touch the key
Hello. Do you know where I can buy these weights? Unfortunately mine are broken the way you can't glue.
hi can you use this xp (or mine is xp 80) as midi controller on logic?
Gracias el mejor y quizá único video sobre este asunto del XP Roland, GRACIAS EXCELENTE APORTE.
hago las suyas la mias palabras! Buenisima calidad incluso lo video!
How can this problem be solved if my xp 60 display is faded and output is not coming?
That was easy thank you!
Hi, my xp 60, enter, shift, 0, 1, 2, 3, buttons are not working, please help me, Thanks
I haven't had this problem, but if the buttons work like those on a remote control unit, you could check out this video: ua-cam.com/video/GX6xYLNPrBg/v-deo.html. Also, I once repaired similar type buttons on a digital clock with contact cleaner. It worked! These are just suggestions to point you in the right direction. Please do more research before attempting to repair your XP 60. I hope this helps.
Thank you its well done job. If you still have the xp60, will you please make a new video showing how to clean internal contacts of the keys?. It will help a lot. I have severy keys not sounding in my keyboard. Thanks again.
Thanks.
Recently I turned on my XP80 but the lcd display doesn't show anything, all the buttons are on (red lights) and doesn't sound at all. Could you please give me some advise regarding this? Could it be the battery or something else? Many thanks.
If there was a problem with the battery, you would get a message saying 'Battery Low', or something like that. It sounds like you should get the keyboard checked out by a Roland specialist.
@@keithstead5175 OK. Thanks a lot.
@@annascarangella7686 Did you ever figure this out? I'm having the same issue.
Hi Anna, My Roland XP-80 just started having thie same issue as yours. Did you get it resolved? If so, what was the fix?
Hello, I have a Roland D70 and displays "low battery" message. No custom sounds nor settings. What happened if I just replace battery ? Will I lost factory sounds ?
As I understand it, you will not lose the factory sounds. Even if you do, you should be able to reinstall them easily (consult the manual to find out how to do this).
@@keithstead5175 if I replace the battery with the unit turned on should I bypass the data transfer?
@@theapex8973 It's always good practice to back-up your files regardless. That way, if anything happens, you've lost nothing, other than the couple of minutes it takes to reinstall them.
With the blacks is imposible to put the hammers back in your place...
I found replacing the black key hammers is just as easy as the white key hammers. If you have repaired the hammer with glue, you might have to use a file to make the hammer the same width by filing off the excess glue. It's a precise fit. Take care. If this doesn't work for you, try to source a replacement hammer.
I have just found your video! My piano is exactly the same and is need of repairing . I have planned to try this Monday. I will let you know if it was a success or absolute disaster! :,D . Thanks in advance for the handy tips
Good luck with the repair. I hope it goes smoothly.
My F2 button does not want to engage....what could be the problem?
It could be a dirty contact. I saw a useful video on 12voltvids channel on how to repair membrane-type remote control units that don't work. One squirt of electrical contact cleaner did it. It might be worth doing some research to see if this could be the solution to your F2 button. I don't know, it's just a suggestion. Does anyone else have any ideas or opinions?
Thanks a lot ! This tutorial helped us to repair a Roland HP330e model as well. We're lucky to have people as generous as you on the Internet ! :)
Thank you for your kind words. I'm really pleased this video helped you.
Thank you!! You're a lifesaver! It just happened to me today after 21 years with my XP-80 that I bought back in January 1999, I had the same message! Lucky me that I stored the sounds I created and edited thru the floppy disk of the original XP-80 demos and everything is back and working like new! Well done with the tutorial! Blessings!
I am about to go through a similar exercise with my XP80. Have eventually got fed up with the replace battery message flashing up.
Dont use metal
I got the idea to put the piano in An old buffet piano and combine it with making a cabinet for liquor in it You have opened it up. Do you think it is a possibility?
I'm not quite sure what you mean by 'buffet piano', but if you are talking about putting the contents of the HP 335 into another piano case, that sounds difficult. Combining it with a drinks cabinet...pianos - digital or real - are best kept as far away from liquids as possible.
@@keith989079 Yes I mean putting it in an old pianocase. If i could close te lid off like the digital piano you have, the keyboard would be protected. And in a "buffet piano" i would store the liquor in de the opstanding section.
@@deltavictordeltavictor Sounds like an interesting project. Please post some photographs when you have done. I don't recommend touching any of the electronics unless you know exactly what you are doing though.
another quick way to do it,just open the keyboard(take the bottom part off)plug it in,turn it on and replace battery with unit on,put bottom cover back on and thats it,you wont loose data,10 mins job!!
Hey Keith, I'm working my way through my mum's piano. Two broken hammers, and a dozen more with some cracks that I'm gonna proactively strenghten with some glue. It's not even that time consuming and and it's really nothing compared to the roughly 600e someone tried to charge her for it. It's mostly thanks to your video that I could get in there and do it myself. So thank you very much for taking the time, one of those invaluable nuggets of information one can find online.
Thank you so much for taking the time to leave your comment. I'm so pleased that the video has been helpful.
Thank you so much for that, Keith!!! Nice calming voice with great instructions and guidance. XP-60 all working well again. xx M
I liked the easy way to fix my piano thanks
Hi there! I accidentally spilled water in my piano and it’s not working anymore, the button lights up but the keys no longer work, the thing is we’re quarantined and i have no idea what to do, i really can’t spend one day without practicing ! Help me out please !!
Oh no! I'm really sorry to hear that.Best case scenario is the water evaporates in a day or two, then everything is back to normal. Worst case, you have to call an engineer to fix it. With regard to practice, if all else fails practise without sound. It's still beneficial. Before the advent of digital keyboards, music students would sometimes practise on dummy keyboards at music colleges. It's good for motor skills and finger agility. Stay positive and stay safe.
Great job !, well done.
Thank you! I've just repaired my Roland HP330e which is virtually the same with just slight screw variations. I'm self isolating and was looking forward to some extended practise but my d and b keys (hammers) were broken! I followed this and used the hammers from top c and bottom a (I've never used these in my life) to effect a repair. I can now play...there's absolute rubbish on tv and I can't go to the gym so...practise time!! Thanks again
Fantastic. I'm glad the video was helpful. Stay safe.
One question please, i bought my Roland Piano HP603A, i was playing through my headset, and felt warm so i took off my jacket and suddenly i heared very weird noise through the head set, quickly i realized that it happened because of the static electricity from the jacket, i switch off the piano. I put it on again, and i couldnt say whether there is a damage has happened, am worrying a lot in general, and am wondering if really (this happening) my winter jacket could really damage the piano because of the static electricity? I feel the ambient 3D sound is no longer strong as before, also other tones.
Static might be a problem if you are working inside a computer, but static created while removing your jacket in front of your HP603A I think is exceedingly unlikely to have adversely affected the electronics inside your piano.
@@keithstead5175 thanks a lot for the response since the headset is connected to the piano with the wire, and the weird noise ( something like electro-magnetic) sound was heard, i really panicked.
Brilliant! Thank-you I will have a go, strangely it is the same key broken on my piano - previously waited weeks for someone to come and fix it for me. Hopefully superglue on the hammer will do it for me.
I'm glad the video was useful. Good luck with the repair. It's really not that difficult.
Thanks. Useful.
Great video! Thanks for your explanation!
Thank you for taking the time to post a comment. I really appreciate it.
A silly question I know but to be sure, this process does not harm the factory default performances right? Only my personal performance data? I want to be sure I do not lose any default sounds and performances.
If I don't bother dumping the performances first that is...
Yes, it's my understanding that the factory defaults are there to stay. The process I describe in the video does not affect them. And even if it did, there should be a way to restore the factory defaults.
Thanks Keith! I had already opened my XP-80 and replaced my battery before I received your reply and you are correct, it does not affect the factory presets. Made quite the difference in the performance also.
Brother stil sow to bettery reaplac but not a problum solution
If you are still getting a 'Low Battery' message after you have replaced that battery with a new one, then the problem isn't the battery!
Thanks so much you helped a lot!
Glad to be of help. Thank you for taking the time to let me know. I really appreciate it.
