I loved Haru ..if you're looking for another great read please check out Invisible Boys , It's a powerful novel that will make you laugh & cry . The story centres around 3 boys coming to terms with their sexuality . I know you will love it !
Oooh, I'll have a look into it!! Thank you for the rec!
I love the language of seabirds i read it in the middle of the night and its just so wholesome
Read the first book and watched your video on it! Mini hit of nostalgia seeing this video pop up
oh wait that's so fun!!!!
I actually liked the last 30 pages of the book. They were like the price or the award we got for making it through around 300 pages of their bullshit. I agree we didn’t need the top or bottom detail though. 😅 I also like the disclaimer in the beginning stating that the story is supposed to be told in a vacauum outside of trans and Queerhate while also keeping the reality of certain bigotry. 😊
This sounds fluffy and adorable! Your glasses are cute btw 😊
It was actually! And thank you lmaooo
hi fellow stray kids stan!! i just finished that book yesterday and i basically agree with everything youre saying.. it was a fun read bc the writing style is engaging and has so much potential but everything kept falling flat somehow?? personally i love how the werewolf stuff was mostly used as a trait that connects brian (a queer poor man) with tyler (a straight rich man) on the basis of their werewolfness and masculinity, to showcase how even through their vastly different lifestyles and morals, anyone can fall into the lies the patriarchy tells about men if theyre lonely and desperate enough. especally if what tyler was teaching produced solid, tangible change in brians life that genuinely helped him! this book had a solid foundation to talk about male loneliness and how abusive relationships fester and how someone like brian could stay in that situation no matter the abuse he had to endure, but sadly.. it didnt have enough pages to really give itself breathing room into establishing character relationships? the whole plot and dialogue felt very cartoonish around the middle to the end. its a shame really. i still love that brian found his little pack but im very disapointed by the journey.. AND i have a nitpick. brian is shown to be internet-culture-savvy (with that comment of his about the "men rights blog?" in the begining and how he uses social media often) yet he magically does not acknowledge how the "alpha wolf" theory has been debunked for years! imo this is something that internet people should know, esp if you turn into a werewolf and google a little bit! yet this book didnt let him Know that, for plot reasons... it was annoying how they infodropped that at the end to make a point. omg also the whole last 3 chapters were so boring, the wolf fight was so bad, i was yelling constantly "why dont you tihkn of the damn FLOWERS that made you gag!!!!" and "darby you have a gun!!!!!!" and that abe ended up not helping them was bonkers actually no matter his exlanation. i really dislike that end with a passion. such a shame !! they did announce a sequel to this, in another characters pov, "shy trans banshee".. im not sure if ill check it out yet, but i might, in hopes that it does better.. sorry for the rant, had to let it out. i hope you had fun if you went to the stray kids festival in london last month!
lmaooooo don't worry about the rant! glad you got it out somewhere. and i actually DID see stray kids in hyde park as well hahahaha
I read this book in 2 days and can confirm that this will become the new solitare for me (boutta read it 8 times in 2 weeks 🤭🤭)
Also Alice is my fav character wbu :3
honestly it's kind of iconic you could read it that many times lmaoooo. but it's been a while since i've read it and i'm one of those people who forgets 95% of a book after reading it lol
Ps can you suggest me some of your favourite books?
Some of my faves are They Both Die at the End by Adam Silvera, If I See You Again Tomorrow by Robbie Couch, All That's Left in the World by Erik J Brown
I just finished reading this book. I had points where i did not like how the characters were behaving. But then i had to think about how i was thinking when i was 18. And all the fear of coming out, of getting hated, standing up. Its all the same. God i loved it. And i am 34 now.
I bought this book but I haven't read it yet, it seems super cool and I love the cover too. I just bought another book called here with us by Nicholas Joan (I need to stop buying new books and just read the ones I have omg) the colours kind of remind me of the (prettier) all thats left in the world cover. you should do a review of that book too- I think its like fairly new
ooh I've never actually heard of that one. I'll have a look into it!
🎶 'promosm'
Some might say there were 26 characters in the book you could even say 27 if you counted the AI. This book I believe would be a really good second read because there are a lot of details that I think you can catch some that I caught on my first go around.
Really??? That's actually really interesting and something I'll definitely have to keep in mind when I come back to this!!
@@matthewreadsiguess what do you think you would rate this book out of 10. Personally I’d give it an 8, I had the audiobook and listened to the entirety of the book in one day at work. Voice actor was great. And the story was fun to say the least
I just finished reading it yesterday and this book seriously got under my skin. What I loved most about it (spoiler free) was that it was mostly an exploration of loneliness, sense of self, what it means to exist, as well as the myriad of ways that two people can come together (or not) and fall in love. I really, REALLY loved this book
They Both Die at the End is one of my favourites as well! So of course it was natural for me to preorder and get this one as well just like you and even though I really enjoyed it, I also found myself thinking I could have lived without it. An unpopular opinion of mine with this whole death cast thing is that I've never really minded or wanted to know more about it behind the scenes. I totally understands peoples arguments and like as to why they want to know more about it but I've always thought that the mystery of how it works is what makes it so intriguing. I usually like to compare this to horror movies. The thing that makes horror movies so great and the secret of it all to make it scary is when they don't show us the monster/ghost or murderer so soon in the film or maybe not at all and just keep them very much in the shadow. Because how we work is that the mystery and what we can't see scare us more than actually seeing it. Like seeing slenderman sitting in a couch drinking wine with Mariah Carey won't be as scary as seeing a mist-full woods in dark with a slendery-looking figure melting subtly into the scene in the backround. It's a bad example but just what popped into my head rn for some reason xD - anyway that is how I always viewed They Both Die at the End, I've always thought that exploring death cast too much will only lead to shooting it's own foot. Which I personally think they did with this second/prequel book. Giving faces and names to death cast made it just less mystical and more like boring for me. It also ironically made it seem more unrealistic to me. Anyway "They Both Die at the End" was so good to me because of the story of Mateo and Rufus, not because of death cast. Yes death cast is hella interesting and cool concept but the story have never been about death cast but how the concept of death cast would look like in real life and how we as humans would be affected if we got to know when we died. We have always had discussion with ourself and friends about "what if we could know how or when we died, would we?" and "They Both Die at the End" made that question come to life here through this book and death cast was the building block/foundation to give that concept a reason to exist. The story made me reevaluate my life and to appreciate life as it is and to try and take it all in everyday as I only has one chance to do so.
Thanks for saving me the trouble of reading the last book.
For the first few couple of chapters I was a little ehhh about it, but then it took a significant turn, I can't pinpoint what but I was so invested in the characters and the story and by like the last 60-100 pages I could not stop. I was ENTHRALLED! I was felt the stakes and the connection and just thoroughly enjoyed it, Jamie and Andrew were great lead characters, Erik J Brown knows character development!
I think sometimes books sometimes take a few chapters to get going, or it takes a few chapters for the readers to get into it!
Based off of your experience on the book, what age would you think this book would be appropriate for?
Well the Amazon page says 13-16, and honestly I'd think that's appropriate. So 13 and up.
I just finished the series and had to come to hear what others thought. My brain did register the trope when it happened, but at that point there were only 3 characters I cared about. I also forgave the trope because of how they made it payoff at the end. I felt like I knew what was coming on the YA “Hunger Games “ style send off and then it was taken to another level. Maybe that was doubling down on the trope, but it worked for me. Thanks for taking the time to review it. I had to dig deep into book tube to find a spoiler review. Even if we didn’t agree on the merits.
I suppose the series did start getting released during that wave of Hunger Games style like you mentioned, so it does make sense in hindsight. And when I think about it, you are right that there weren't all that many characters that had THAT much impact for being killed off at the end. It's just one of those tropes that I don't, personally, like.
I really liked this book! But loved Hani and Ishu's Guide to Fake Dating, you should check it out.
you're so right! i really enjoyed the first three parts but the last one was just not it, it turned into a religious sci-fi kind of thing? i don't really know. during that last part i felt triggered all the time, like the way that milo kept with his god nonsense and the "accidents" with mother nature to me sounded just cruel? like i found no reason to it more than just make people suffer. i wish that they dived more into the "you can be religious and be gay because god isn't supposed to be this cruel". i don't know, my thoughts after reading it was just that it was cruel.
that's such an interesting take on this! i suppose since i have no real relationship with religion, that wasn't something i thought of
@@matthewreadsiguess i am not religious either! but my mom does believe in god, though she is not a “christian”? however she has always told me that the god she believes in is not cruel, and thinking about it, if there is a god, which i don’t know, why would they be cruel, revengeful and so selective? since they are supposed to love each of their “childs” and WE are supposed to be the same. i would’ve liked to see that take while reading it, and even milo said it once towards the end, but never really said much more? i did enjoy this book and though it was weird in the last part, i did like the ending. i just found it triggering and somehow unnecessary cruel :( and the last part was like super random and totally different from the previous three parts and unsettling.
i just started reading this, mostly for the chubby/plus-size life guard, Sean... it's ok so far, about 20 pages in
I thinking that maybe it’s a me thing but I didn’t like Xavier because of his attitude towards life and the way that his parents let him come home and let him have time to figure it out. I understand that starting on the wrong foot with Logan was a thing and it was an understandable situation, but after all that time it still felt like the tension between the two didn’t lighten halfway. It may be the fact that I am a gen z YA, but I understood all the references and didn’t really find them charming. Mya and Anne were my two favorites and I enjoy them truly. Sorry about the rant but figure I can comment here my thoughts.
no need to apologise for ranting your thoughts here! i think it's really interesting seeing what you think!
@@matthewreadsiguess thank you I genuinely thought that I was being to much over a character.
What a pleasant (ok…more like WTF) surprise of a story! I can’t stop thinking about this book! I also can’t stop recommending it enough to my queer and ally friends. If you haven’t already after watching this video… read it now!!! Better yet, listen to the audiobook (sooo we’ll narrated)!
oooh i haven't listened to the audiobook!!
loved this (:
For me the writing style gives me major fanfiction vibes with both the actual writing style and the chapter layout ig? Tbh that might be why I like it a lot XD
that's a very good point! and i suppose depending on the type of book, the fanfiction vibes aren't necessarily a bad thing
I just read my first gay series called “Heart Stopper” and now I’m absolutely obsessed with these kind of books! I was hoping to find another one like heart stopper so I’ve been researching.
Omg! I read that and absolutely loved it, I think I saw fan art on Pinterest or something and ended up buying it, and honestly it’s an emotional rollercoaster.
on Pinterest of all places??? kind of love that though
The title confused me, but then it got my interest.
guess that was the point haha
You need to watch the new series. Its less BL than others. Vee is a straight acting gay guy who had a girlfriend and is slowly realizing he isn't straight. The actors went back to the school they shot at and asked students who passed by if they had seen it and then if they knew anyone at the school with a similar story and they said yes right away. There is a directors cut of the first three episodes. I would suggest watching those instead, it helps explain a few things.
the series definitely is on my list to watch. with these thai BL novels, i've noticed that the series of them often tend to do the story better than the novels do (Theory of Love especially)
I just started this book and I'm excited to see where it goes. Great concepts!
thanks for reviewing my novel. 🥰
Ur accent is so pretty and this book is AMAZING
thank you that's so kind!!!
I just read "History is All You Left Me" by Adam Silvera and loved it. Also, "Alex in Wonderland" by Simon James Green was pretty good too.
Oooh I really enjoyed Alex in Wonderland as well, and History is All You Left Me is definitely one of those I can't easily re-read bc I feel like it's just so sad hahaha
I always come back to your channel for lgbtqia book recos! Please don’t stop making videos ♥️
Thank you, I'm glad you like them!!! And honestly as long as there are the books and I have the time, I don't plan on stopping :)
Thx for making these videos. I find it hard to find good books or books to my liking and I always seem to like the books you read. I’m currently reading a little bit country.
oh I'm glad you like them! How are you finding a little bit country so far?
I found that this one compared to all that’s left in the world is said a bit differently but I’m only about 20 pages in. I’m literally going off of the front cover looks good. Lol
the whole point of the book is back in 1985, gay people werent really accepted So he trys to change it with chaz and everything Good read for preteens and nice video
im so glad youtube recommended your videos! right now i’m on my second graphic novel this week-for some reason i’ve really been liking them. i just finished How i made it to eighteen, which i loved! and now i’m currently reading The prince and the dress maker! i just started the video but i’m excited to see what you have read:)
Oh, I've heard of The Prince and the Dress Maker. How are you liking it??
There's no audio or it's just me? 🤔
i checked and it's there for me
@@matthewreadsiguess hmm 🤔
This is the first book I have read for myself (not as an assignment) and I loved it and I feel better about my self and my sexuality because of it.
That's so good!!! I feel like when you HAVE to read a book (and from personal experience) you never enjoy it as much
I love the epilogue and how it doesn't tell us who's POV we are in because it's like they are one mindset now, like they're in sync and also it's so cute how in Fort Caroline they want to sleep in the same room but they aren't allowed also the jokes are surprisingly funny, I thought it would be like 'hello fellow kids' jokes but they were good. I really hope there is a sequel cuz they're is so much Erik j brown could do with this story NEVERMIND HE IS MAKING A SEQUEL OMG PLEASE JUST LET HIM NOT KILL THEM
SAME! I'm like, "It ended somewhere good, now just let them stay happy please :)"
Where did you find he was making a sequel? Ill pass away if he kills of them i swear.
@@malupria7520 the author made a tweet saying something like "you all really want a sequel? Just know im gonna be really mean to them"
@@Faulk425 that's awesome hopefully its in the works as we speak, I'd love to see more of Andrew and Jamison, we neeeed it
My assumption for the ending was incorrect so I was very much like omg what😭 i can’t think of any other fake dating trope books I’ve read other than Frankly In Love but out of the two I’d say Out of the Blue was more fun and I cared more about the relationship dynamic and that type of thing lol
I've read a few, but this is one of my favourites hands down. I think it was because the merfolk part was included - it gave it that little extra!
Why was that a better cover than what we have here in the Philippines huhuhu.
I guess it's just personal preference hahaha
Great review but I still don't understand the ending to Time Box. Did the landlady kill her or what happened, it was just so confusing. Can you please enlighten me on the ending, all I know is she was missing and the area was repainted.
to be honest, i'm not 100% certain myself. i feel like the idea of it was that since the two characters has opposing ideas of what to do with the timebox, we never really got to know
@@matthewreadsiguess Thanks, yeah the ending left a lot of holes, thanks
I enjoyed that open ended close to that story. It’s still got me on my toes 💭
I just finished this book and it was hard to put down. So good. I was on the edge of my seat at so many points, even speaking out loud to myself in surprise, which is always a good sign when a book can make you do that.
One thing is incredible… I’ve been looking on different books over the past few weeks and every book I dig deeper into has a review from you here on yt 👀 Thanks for helping and keep up the awesome work😋🌷🌷
you're welcome hahaha, guess i have a niche now
Great book. I was rushing home to read more. Then in total despair when I had finished it lol

It's my first video from you that I've watched, but I adore the way you reviewed it! The Ginger Minge reference literally killed me haha
I'm glad you liked it, thank you!!!

Well spotted hahaha. There's In Life, Noeasy and Oddinary back there lmao
11:30 I, a 17 year old born in 2004, would in fact say the word "derpy/derp" my friends who are my age, older and younger do as well. So yes, teens in this year do in fact say derpy. And it's actually quite a frequent word said as well in my friend group. Just thought I'd say that. I just finished the book yesterday and I was really excited with the ending. It ended better than I was even hoping it would end. I was terrified with the name of the epilogue that it wasn't gonna end how I was hoping, but no, it was good.
It is??? I genuinely had no idea that people in that age group still say "derpy". I thought it was something that was more in an older age group. And I'm glad you enjoyed it! I'm definitely glad it ended how it did. I'd rather that than a repeat of the first book, honestly.
