So, in the UK you actually have to drill holes into your plate? They don't issue you them with holes? I live in the USA (New York) and all plates in the USA come with 4 holes so you can screw them into any make car that already has the holes in the vehicle. It's bizarre the UK makes it so difficult to attach a plate to your vehicle. Why is this?
Just a reminder - although this video was accurate when released - the legislation has since changed for BSAU145e (September 2021). Screw fixings are no longer advised (but permitted), however if screws are used they must be positioned outside of the readable area, so no longer allowed through or between the characters etc.
Never drill a plate through the front face as it pushes the backing away and allows damp in. So....always drill from the back through to the face. Good video though.
Hi Folks, to prevent number plate thefts could you ask people to look at the petition - petition.parliament.uk/petitions/105275 - the idea is for the government to fund 60 pence of screws per car at point of sale or MOT over 45,000 plates are stolen every year!!
Great video guys - would also suggest either using a black cover for the screw going through the number or the use of a permanent black marker to prevent mis-read of number plate.... there's some picky coppers' out there :o)

Only thing I would add is make sure the original plate was hung square
A black cap on the number would have looked better
How would u drill into the bumper of the vehicle if there are no holes or u want to make new holes

STI. Sexually transmitted disease
STI - Sexually transmitted Infection. STD - Sexually Transmitted Disease
Nooooooo🙈..... black cover should be on the 8. White spoils the plate !
Should have drilled the holes either side of the reg, looks so bad white cap on black, cowboy job
Gary's got a garage full of stetsons where he used to keep his black screw caps.
But he was demonstrating using the existing holes method. Still should have used a black cover on the right screw tho
what if the screw head is damaged. how do you get it off then?

yes , if you're gonna do an instructional video you can make a school boy error like that. That car should fail its MOT if you replicate that
