See if you really intend to work in the field of literature seriously and don’t just want a degree, then, by all means, prepare for Jamia once more. But if it’s only about a piece of paper (a degree) then even distance works for you.

I’m glad that somebody replied. I know that even relativity is useful under the circumstances like the atomic clocks and gps but it is used to make it more precise by a few nanoseconds. Seen from the everyday life, we don’t even care about these few, lost nanoseconds. But my argument holds against the utilitarians that it is not whether the theory is useful in our everyday life, the beauty of it lies in that it altered our perception of the universe forever not because it saved us a few nanoseconds, which we were gonna waste anyway. Anyway, the point is in seeing that the argument of utilitarianism does not prove very useful, and not just against the humanities and the arts but it is also harmful for the STEM disciplines.

And if we had to argue for the utility of humanities, we can say that ramayana, Mahabharata, our literary and cultural history, our understanding of our civilization, would all be lost if not for literature. It would be a soulless, orwellian world to exist in. Even Einstein was a lover of violin, he didn't say what's the utility in music ?😭😂

@@PrincessP15602 The violin argument is a great one! And I agree even if it is about utility of humanities, there are plenty. But why can’t we admit that some things we do for pleasure. Why is pleasure such a taboo!

Is it important to go through the ug course of english from jmi. Will not the books like the one you just said about the indian authors and the history of english literature by edward albert, beginning theory, the norton anthology will be enough? Pls reply

Congratulations for qualifying the exam and as for your question: unfortunately no dissertation as of now in MA program. Though I agree with you and feel the same. I have tried to bring this change at a student level in the university, and some professors seem promising so perhaps this year they might bring it on.

@thevinayrajoria that's a bummer. I got into both Jamia and AUD. I wonder which one should I choose? I really like the faculty at JMI plus I've heard great things about the MA English program there but I'm worried if it's going to be as research oriented as I once imagined it would be.

Choose AUD the faculty of AUD is better than JAMIA also you will get a better environment there in terms of academia and research. You are going to be in academic field so writing dissertation under a professor would definitely help you cause that's the main part of MA programme.

@SanjanaKumari-yi5xl that's fair. I did my bachelor's from AUD. I chose them over DU for the same reasons as you stated. The campus is terrible. The good teachers are resigning, and the admin is very very inefficient. I've heard great things about the Jamia faculty tho.

@@poushalighosh4661 That's great if you chose AUD over DU, well faculty changes everywhere but dissertation and syllabus plays a major role in Masters. I have my friends who appeared for interviews (currently teaching) and obviously basic matters during interviews and major question was about their dissertation, also while PhD you will be expected to write papers, right? I mean they are not going to teach you while on the other side during masters that's the phase where you do learn lot of things (you are getting it on one side, on the other you are lacking it properly)so yeah having these things with you during interview matters the most and eventually helps you,also strength of class is better in AUD and yeah environment (as a girl i would say to consider this also)

I totally agree with you. We should get individual score cards and then the cutoff to make a better articulation of our performance irrespective of the result. I will try to relay this request forward and hope to make it better!

Contact the Controller of Examination of Jamia for this. Visit campus if they don’t reply to mails. I can’t personally do anything for this; perhaps this has happened coz you changed your category later on.

You’ve a chance. A slim one but it is there. Keep checking the lists till the last. Especially the 3rd and 4th.

Second list me waiting list students ko hi milega admission.They won’t give seats randomly to students who are not even in the list. Think about it, won’t it be unfair to aspirants in the waiting list!

@@satavishasen6584 mushkil hai 55 me. The total seats for all categories is 40-42. In the second list, the first 1-10 candidates will get in from general category waiting list, provided someone leaves the seat in the first lot. 55 is a long call.
