Terry Griffiths v Nigel Gilbert 1990 World Championship
5:03:49 start of one of the most dramatic sessions in a World Final ever.
3:46:30 NOW it gets interesting.
What a first round match Davis had to play V Jimmy White , he definitely knew he was a force to be reckoned with in the near future .
Why did Ted Lowe retire after this WC?
2:27:34 Viduka scores the winner for Leeds at Highbury to win Trafford United their 15th league title.
6:33:22 THAT blue......
The blue along the rail whilst using a rest will go down as one of the most difficult and memorable shots in snooker history.🔵.x
Rex would have been very much influenced by Joe Davis not much side in the ball just good positional play and a very solid cue action .
Blimey, those pockets are certainly ultra-generous!
Ronnie didn't have the rounded game here. Once he went with Ray Reardon he really became a complete player.
These two wouldn't be in the top 64 these days.
One of the all time great finals & possibly the best World Championship I have ever seen due to Ken’s incredible exploits throughout the tournament.
What can you say? Davis’s stunning start to go 8-0 up, Taylor’s onslaught of 50 breaks to go only 9-7 behind, his consistent scoring of 40+ breaks to go 11-11, Davis somehow winning the last 2 frames of the 3rd session both on the black despite only having a high break of 29 throughout the session to lead 13-11, the stunning start in the final session with the 1st 6 frames having breaks of 50 or more with Taylor levelling at 15-15, Davis playing 2 flawless frames to go 17-15, guts from Taylor to take the match to a decider & of course the incredible final frame. Stunning, just stunning. The only thing missing from this Final was maybe a couple of century breaks. But incredible.
13:14:38 one of the most infamous misses, Davis pots that 9 times out of 10 but this is not normal circumstances.
What a start to the final session, 50 breaks in the first 6 frames, 2 from Steve & 4 from Dennis. Stunning snooker under real pressure.
The Embassy is Blue year of 1987. The Lakeside Darts World Championship was also blue that year.
Brilliant 86 from Davis to go 14-11 up, showing why he was an unbelievable player.
Jesus, how did Davis win those 2 frames to go 13-11? Never seen a player go to pieces so much as he did, couldn’t even make a break over 30 from 8-0 up. Grit, utter grit from The Nugget.
David grey wins - only to lose 1-13 in the second round!
Mark hahaha
Love it, the final & in the whole championship so far only 7 centuries have been made. Stephen Hendry made 7 in one final UK championship. Titbit. Perri Mans won the Masters & did NOT make a break over 50 in the whole tournament. Tutbit 2, check out the tube vid of Joe Davis making a ton using the old ivory balls.
I herd him saying green ball
Terrible referee
Stephen Lee is mustard I couldn’t stand Quintin hann he was a complete bellend !
Was a majical time no female refs, no p/c correctness! When Ford Cortinas, and Escorts ruled the world and whenyou could get a GP appointment.
Rumour has it they are still playing
DT with no glasses on. How dapper did they look in them days.
I never knew Chris de burgh presented snooker back then
Strange to see Peter Ebdon the first time with hair 😅
Still hurts watching Sir Jimmy at the crucible
Uhm, why does the referee say "Thank you, ladies and gentlemen" when he wants them to shut up and be quiet? Why on Earth would you say _thank you_ ?? It's so really bizarre. What a strange referee.
this was the first match that i actually wanted steve davis to win
2:30 Now now Alex a very unsporting gesture indeed 🤔 very unfortunate how it clearly affected the frame and possibly match.
That problem wouldn't be an issue today thankfully.
Davis in his prime was beautiful to watch.
41:11 audio cuts out at that point with this poorly edited video, don't waste your time. I get that far just for the audio to go...what a waste of time.
Alex on form could beat anybody then and now. Born into today's game he would have no trouble beating today's players.
Happy Birthday today to *Cliff Thorburn CM* 🇨🇦 (born 16 January 1948)👍🎂
These 2 wouldn't be able to live with the top player's of today as much as I liked and respected them both.
I'm 38 years away from this & even I can see Hendry hit the pink first...
if you look closely ... thats gotta be Ronnie's Mrs hand come swooping in and grab that cheque!!!!
If vintage Hendry were to face-off agsinst vintage O Sullivan who would win? Or in other words at their best who is best?
Oh it is *Hendry* no question about it. If you see anyone claiming O'Sullivan is the "GOAT" they're just trolls trying to bait people into endless arguments because it's very well known and understood that *Hendry* is the greatest snooker player of all time..put up against anyone else ever, prime for prime. Just disregard anyone saying otherwise, all they're doing really is reinforcing that *Hendry* is the undisputed King of Snooker 👑🏴⚪️🔴⚫️😄
No one has ever played the game so effortlessly as the young Jimmy White.
Anyone here have the footage of Alex Higgins beating les Dodd in 1989 with a broken ankle?
Go on The Grinder 🇨🇦
6:10 £1 a point over the highest break of 56. Rocket Ronnie nearly crashed his Ferrari into his mansion.
47:30 I love the Welsh accent
Ray Reardon was such a sportsman, a gentleman and a great ambassador of snooker. Ray was a fan favorite not because of all his championships, he was favorite because of his humility, kindness and his love of the game. Rest In Peace Ray you will be missed by everyone.
Wasn’t it great how snooker was always the sport where they announced the amount of the cheque and the player just casually slipped a £100k+ cheque into their trouser pocket, shook hands and smiled.
Ray Reardon gave it one heck of an effort, but way too many missed balls and scratches. At this point in his career Alex Higgins was a better shot maker which allowed him to play with more confidence.
