First thing is don’t forget to have fun, as strange as it sounds a lot of people forget this part. Second don’t skimp on safety stuff, just because it passes doesn’t mean it will save you in a bad crash. As to the car I’d say don’t start with a rust bucket. Most off the enduro series will have Facebook pages to join, smp or iss. The group pages are a great place to buy sell trade and get advice. look out for all the drama, these are the people that forget the first thing.

I’ve raced with some other groups and not felt safe in the car, this series has some very respectful drivers and staff. Considering what we are going I think this is about as safe as it gets.

I also drive and have raced with Michael a number of times now. I definitely mirror his response. There are two things you can do to keep safe. Make sure your car is safe, don't start with a rusted pos and build the cage right. Don't skimp on cage safety. Then also make good decisions while driving. Michael does really well at making smart and safe choices while racing. You have to drive hard, but if your too aggressive and force passes you risk a crash. No good! Do it though! Racing is the best hobby and a ton of fun!

Skyler Webster. Yes I am planning on it, last year I had a wheel fall off and parked it in the middle of turn 4.

Its not on my short list, but having gone with to two of them I absolutely get it. A lot of strategy goes into the driving and the creativity and time that goes into building them. They do start out with radiators, I think this class just uses standard truck/suv engines.

He had issues with keeping the car cool. This was my first run at Norway, its a long haul for us but worth the trip, I hope Iss returns next year.

Sorry, unfortunately I won't have a video from CL. I lost a water pump belt and had a few great people in the pits fix it for me very quickly but unfortunately we could do nothing about the trailing arm when it decided to pull out of the uni-body.

It tore my right rear strut tower off of the car and the exhaust. #89

I think I have done this race twice now, it is one of my favorite races of the year. I have also had temp problems both times.

Sorry I do not remember the car count from last year. The next Iss race is at WIR this weekend and has 46 pre registered car, they normally have a 10-20 cars that are not pre registered show up on race day. Unfortunately I will not be at WIR this year but I am planning on attending the final ISS race of the year at State park speedway. I will try to send A Gopro with someone to get a video.

Not at all.............. 1.Remove all insulation and upholstery from the interior and under the hood a.Cars must retain original factory gauges. 2.Remove all the Airbags. 3.All holes in floor or firewall must be covered with securely mounted steel. 4.Sunroof opening must be sealed off with securely mounted steel. 5.Remove all exterior mirrors. Factory interior mirror allowed. 6.Remove all glass except windshield. a.Be sure that all broken glass is cleaned out of the vehicle b.Leave windshield wipers intact and operable - race will be run rain or shine c.Lexan windshield is okay but must have a minimum of three (3) 3/8” support braces d.Wire mesh 1” or smaller with .035 or larger wire is okay with the same 3 braces as for lexan. 7.Seat and Seatbelts a.5 point racing harness, including crotch belt required. b.Shoulder belts need to be supported at shoulder level. c.Racing seats allowed but must be mounted securely to the roll cage. d.All seats must have a headrest. 8.Battery a.If relocated, must be secured by minimum 1/8” x 1” steel strap with minimum 3/8” hardware with large head washers. b.Battery must be covered. 9.Gas Tank a.May remain in place if it is ahead of the rear axle. b.If behind the rear axle it must be replaced with a fuel cell or boat tank (8 gallons or less) and mounted in the trunk. c.Fuel cell or boat tank must be secured by minimum of four (4) 1/8” x 1” steel straps with minimum 3/8” hardware with large head washers. NO plumbers tape. d.If fuel cell is used, trunk firewall must be sealed off. e.If fuel line runs through the car, it must be in a sealed conduit. f.Cars with fuel leaks will not be allowed to run. 10.Brakes a.All cars must have functioning four- wheel brakes. b.Third brake light should remain intact and operable. c.It is strongly recommended that if your car does not have a third brake light - you add a stock tail light or trailer light on the rear speaker shelf or roof. 11.Hood and Trunk a.May NOT be gutted. b.Must be on the stock, working hinges c.Remove factory hood and trunk latches. d.Hood and trunk must be secured with hood pins or seatbelts. 12.Bumpers a.Bumper must be stock. b.Bumpers should be chained or strapped to the frame. c.Damaged bumpers may be replaced with another car bumper or may be fabricated out of a single tube no larger than 2½” in diameter no thicker than .095. d.NO angle iron, NO channel iron, NO additional bracing, NO trailer hitches. e.Only screen allowed in front of radiator. 13.Doors a.Doors must be welded or chained shut. b.Driver’s side door bars are required - see Roll Cage and Bars later in the rules. c.If you do not have 3 door bars, driver’s door must be plated - see Roll Cage and Bars later in the rules. d.NO rub rails allowed. e.Passenger door may remain operational for safety crew access. 14.Tires, Wheels and Lug nuts a.Stock wheels for make and model of car. b.Right front wheel may be replaced with a stock offset, stock width - safety wheel. c.Both front wheels must have oversized lug nuts d.All wheels will be a maximum of 15” x 6” wide. e.Front tires must be exact equal markings for size and profile. Rear tire stagger is allowed, even different rim sizes. f.Passenger car tires only - No recaps, no made for racing “cheater tires’. g.Stick shift cars Maximum 60 series tire. h.Automatic transmission cars may use 55 or 50 series tires. i.Maximum section width of any tire is 225. j.Tread Wear. All tires must have a UTQG rating of 260 or higher. 15.Exhaust a.Every car MUST have a stock muffler or catalytic converter. b.Exhaust MUST exit behind the driver. c.Exhaust cannot point at the gas tank. d.Maximum exhaust size is 2”. e.Strap on your exhaust good - you can expect a black flag if it falls off. 16.Radiator and Protection a.Any radiator in the stock location is allowed. b.A radiator protection bar constructed of 1” tubing no thicker than 1/8” is allowed. c.A maximum of 6’ of tubing may be used for the radiator protection bar(s) and any bracing. Safety Requirements 1.Snell 2000 (or newer) helmet. 2.Full racing firesuit recommended (either one piece or shirt and pants). Long sleeves and long pants mandatory. 3.Gloves required - racing gloves strongly recommended. 4.Racing shoes or boots strongly recommended. 5.Neck collar or other style head and neck restraint strongly recommended. Roll Cage and Bars 1.Roll Cage a.Minimum tubing size is 1½” x .095 thickness. b.A minimum of a single hoop roll bar with 2 angled down bars must be welded or bolted with sandwich plates (4” x 4” x 1/8”) to the car. c.Hoop must be full height and width of car. d.Down bars must connect at a point at least 2/3rds of the way up the hoop. e.Hoops should be bent in a bender (not kinked) or miter cut and gusseted. 2.Door Bars - Tracks Longer than ¼ Mile a.A minimum of 3 door bars on the driver’s side going forward from your main roll bar hoop to a vertical bar (forward post) at least dashboard height. This bar may be welded on the bottom to the rocker panel and on the top to the windshield pillar. b.If the forward post is not welded solid between the rocker and windshield pillar then it must be connected side to side by a dashboard bar (factory bar acceptable). c.The forward post may continue upward and be part of a conventional 4-point roll cage. 3.Door Bars - Tracks ¼ Mile a.The 3 door bars previously outlined are recommended. b.If you are not using 3 door bars, a minimum of one bar welded to the main hoop (armpit height with driver seated) must go forward to at least the front edge of the door AND c.A 5-foot long steel plate 1/8” thick by a minimum of 6” wide must be welded or bolted to the side of the door at bumper height. Two (2) plates are recommended starting at the rocker panel and going 12” up the door. 4.Rear bars may connect to the rear strut towers. Rear strut towers may be connected side to side. Not Allowed

Safe being a relative term, I had a roll-bar with drivers door protection, a racing seat, belts, and fire retardant clothes along with a few other things. I would not consider this to be a safe hobby but the driver is allowed to make the car as safe as they feel fit, the rules the track and Iss provide are in my opinion the bare minimum.
