Bought it with 80K was a little grungy believe they use MOBIL 1. The valve covers started leaking after 20years was very happy to see the Valvoline cleaned the engine up nice.

All weather drivability is first on my list. A heavy flywheel and single carb/intake combo that makes good strong low end power you can lug up hill without stalling and get a nice FAT midrange is the cats ass off road. So far I'm thrilled with this setup. I named it the IBEX because it climbs steep loose shale mine trails with ease because of the heavy flywheel, 4:37 R&P, small 26MM venturis on...

Nice
Great fabrication. The engine sounds nicely tuned.
Nice job brother! I can appreciate the effort put towards the heat risers and the warm air box. In my 20's, I didn't see the value in either till I took my baja over Shasta in the winter. A frozen throttle makes the decent very interesting! lol
Thanks
Nice rig!
Ive been trying to find the entrance location could u help me with that
Cursed ass desert. Fuck apple valley
Did the cat survive ?
Alot of the small brick homesteads were miners homes my grandparents lived in one for many years
Roundup and beuna vista there was a big one its a nice up up half the mountain
Me and my buddies have go to Rasor road very often and every time we go to the shack and leave something there.People started calling it the love shack and now my whole group of buddies calls it the live shack
Its a fun place have you been to the megaphone? Its a funny little art installation
Dude! Ya gotta bug! What year is your bug? I have a 71 super beetle I’m trying to get up and running!
Great video. What camera did you use? Rasor Rd is mine and my kids favorite riding spot. Fahrvergnugen 🤙
I have a Go-Pro 7 and 8 Very inconstant quality but blessed to have them. Razor RD is my favorite also. Have squeezed some more power from the motor and have desert trak tires now so will be going back this year in spring. Glad you liked the Video thanks for watching.
Definitely gaining confidence in your baja's abilities - steeper climbs and descents as well as a bit more speed in the flats. Nice! You have quite the talent for finding those obscure mines!
Great video
rasor road log cabin whats the location
Just have to explore and find it for yourself
There’s a few cabins out there,
Closed they retired
How unfortunate
I wonder why and when this mine was dug,,and u sir have balls of steel..i would never walk inside it..
I've never seen so many shafts in a concentrated area like that - I hope the persistence paid off!
That's a run that's been on my bucket list for a while now. Are there more off shoots to explore, or is the main truck trail the only road? Thanks for posting
The side trails are dead ends or take you off the mountain. There is a second part you can do that takes you much further in and gets very narrow. Wide jeeps or trucks dont go to often its getting overgrown its mostly used for dirt bikes but I can wedge the baja in. The whole area is pretty boring to be honest.
Where is this at. Stoddard wells
Dale Evans Pkwy opposite side of Camp Snoopy
Really cool how there is so much elevation change. Didn't seem like any of the inclines were too steep. Actually was surprised by how drivable all those roads were! Looked like a fun day poking around...
A snap on retainer ring? Sweet! Does it have any type of spring or retention for keeping it in the closed position?
Good stuff !! - exactly what I plan to do in a couple of weeks (hope the temps drop into the 90s). Def need to find the dunes near Rasor and Weird Mine. I was planning to enter through Afton canyon but your direction looks good, too. Planning to BLM camp at a couple random spots - first time there. Was going to do some wheeling around Big Bear but the forests are closed statewide. as you probably know. Would have liked to see your Bug - dream vehicle of mine. From what I hear there used to be mine carts on the tracks you could tow up the hill with your rig and ride them down!
I like Basin Rd Its one exit down from Afton Rd the next exit is Razor Rd with the gas station that one is a mess hard sharp rocks the whole way don't recommend plus its way past the dunes and Afton canyon.
@@desertsasquatchxploration1568 Thanks for the intel - appreciated!!
@@desertsasquatchxploration1568 So the dunes are better accessed from Basin road? Are they west of, east of, or along Basin? Thanks again!
Love your videos so relaxing
Looks like you might have added a few desert pinstripes on this trip - well worth it though. Looked like a sweet trail. Ever think about posting a walk-around of your car?
Yea its an 800$ Maaco special little wax you hardly see them. I might do a little garage/car tour will see.
Looks like the baja is quite capable on those hills. Those uncovered vertical shafts are bit unnerving, but the rest are so fun to check out! Thanks for sharing (fellow baja owner)
Very nice video! Where is the place you call the Weird Mine? Is this the large mine between Afton Canyon and Basin Rd? I've heard that there is a train car way up in one of the smaller canyons that branch off of Afton..and it's a bit of a mystery how it got to the spot it's located at. In your video it looks like you are driving over an abandoned train track, or possibly just railroad ties to prevent erosion.
Yes the mine its about 1/2 mile before the entrance of Afton Canyon and its folding in I wanted to film it before its gone the tracks are what I assume mine car tracks the steel rail is long gone. As for the train car its at the entrance of the canyon if you use google maps copy and search 35°02'23.7"N 116°18'31.6"W its at the top of the hill yes weird how it got there. Check out my new mine video I have a part two coming at the end of this weekend. Cheers!
