The state of things, the present moment - iMovie
dance piece created by Silvana Cardell in collaboration with Senior Modern Dance Majors at The University of the Arts, Philadelphia. The state of things, the present time
This piece, inspired in Marcel's Dzama 's drawings, defines the life and the actions of his canvas's characters. In The state of things, the present moment the dancers create moving environments. The stage floor, in this piece is treated as a canvas., movement and actions are defined by this specific use of the floor and the space where gravity is constantly challenged. The floor becomes a wall, a place for the characters to wander. Among them there is a guitar player, one lady walking her dog , the other lady on crutches , a cheering crowed, a circus trio, a group of crying masked ladies , an armed girl , nurses and ghosts, archers, hunters, and many stuffed animals. Constantly changing the point of view, this piece blurs the boundaries between visual art, movement, and performance.

What happened to the lighting at 5:19? Looks like a mistake. So hard to find a good film of this.
Omgosh 1928......Art of the Dance at one it's Finest.
Omg
I just love stuff like this. It allows to see the actors of the stage.
My God, this brings back memories. 1994 Mason Gross School of the Arts, Rutgers University. I learned and performed this piece with my class. Learned it from Labanotation which is incredibly difficult.
Yes, it does bring back memories!! I also performed this piece but in SUNY Cortland in 1972. We too, learned it from the Labanotation...a word I haven't heard in 40 years - and it was very difficult to reconstruct the piece from this system. Gives you a real appreciation for what the pioneers of modern dance did and how their minds worked. My dance professor had to arrange for someone to come see us rehearse from the Labanotation bureau in NYC. He had to approve our work before we performed. Yes, I believe that's how it worked. My father came to see me perform and was totally baffled by this dance. "What were you a wave, up there??" he said. Ha! Makes me smile just to think of those days.
i would like to know few things about this video.. so can i get u in any other means? its something for my assignment. it would be helpfull if u reply. thankyou!
