Is this different from Cleared For Chaos?
Canada was a pretty tough customer at the end of ww2 through to 1968 when you know who came along.....😢
so matter of fact heroic brilliance and badass. Gun radar?
What’s the name of the documentary? I can’t find it. I seen it before about this whole gander business.
This is my grandfather... and my hero. We were very close, and I miss him terribly. I am so lucky to be able to hop online and hear (just a few!) of his stories whenever I like, in his own voice. He flew 2 patrols over the beaches on D-Day, and shot down 2 Me-109s in July 1944, among many other exploits. I used to sit and listen for ages, asking as many questions as I could think up. I wish I could ask him more. I love you, Grandpa Bill!
Thank you so much for sharing this special memory and experience with your grandfather. We can understand why you would be so proud of this incredible person. We're happy this video brings back some good memories for you.
I had the great good fortune to meet this gentleman while we were both serving. He was very involved in Flight Safety education, and his efforts probably saved many lives.
Fine example of a Red Knight CT-133 in the background. I was a young boy in Gimli Manitoba watching the airshow when one of the Red Knights tragically crashed. Later in life as a technician in the CAF I worked on the venerable whisper jet & had the pleasure of a number of back seat rides while serving in Baden Germany during the Cold War.

Is this WW1 app game really based on a True Story?!😨
And he said Da
Gander's population on the day of the diversions: 10,000 angels.
First off, how the freak are there no comments here? Second off, where can I find the all the soundtrack to this game?
Amazing
Is there a way I can access the soundtrack? Because it's so freakin good.
The World will never forget the great lengths , generosity and kindness the Canadians provided. In true tradition .
RAF night fighter aces Burbridge, Cunningham and Braham flew them. They loved it.
Gander the world was watching and you stepped up like few others did well done
People in Nova Scotia complain that Halifax did so much for these stranded people and never got any acknowledgement. The reason, simple, they were organized by the Red Cross, the Salvation Arm, various churches, i.e., Greek church among them, gathered for their own. So different than 8,000 thousand people doing it all by themselves and for everyone. There is no comparison Halifax. All of Halifax or neighbouring sister city Dartmouth did not volunteer like the Gander people did. They just can never be compared. Gander you were just awesome.
Cette une belle chanson❤
I love Canada
what a safe and effective plane, if they were in metal plane it would have caught fire, shrapnel kill both pilots, and downed it
Pressure was like water off a ducks back to them absolute supermen.
I had the same experience. I was on a military charter coming back from deployment from Middle East to Baltimore. Plane began to have rudder mechanical issues and they couldn't turn the plane right or left. So they had to land somewhere with a straight shot in. Gander was the closest airport that had a straight shot in to land from the Atlantic approach. When we landed, we were told you cannot get your bags because they were locked in the cargo hold with some other military equipement. Keep in mind we were coming from a hot Desert and into Gander which was February. Yes it was winter. Some of my fellow airman actually had shorts on the plane. After 12 hours waiting in the small Gander Airport we were released to go out in the community because the plane was going to take a week to fix. Almost immediately after our release, the Gander community was at the airport ready to help us with cloths and food. We didn't have candian money but every business was willing to take American dollars. Keep in mind this was shortly after 9/11 so currency was different back then. It was truely a heart warming experience on what that community did for us. When I talked to a local she told me her community was use to what happened to us and that once the community gets word of a plane in trouble they respond. I would have never thought that but the people of Gander are truly incredible. That is my story. Gander will always have a place in my heart.
What a cool story. Thanks for sharing that memory!
As Americans we may make jokes and entertain ourselves with some light-hearted ribbing of our Canadian neighbors, but, by God, we are SO lucky to have friends like them! The way they helped us in this, our time of need, was WAY above and beyond what could possibly be expected of them! And as such I'm afraid it's a debt we can't possibly repay in full. So all I can say is: "Merci, mes amis!"
So lucky to do a job they loved
I hadn't heard the detail about the striking bus drivers coming off the picket line to help without being asked - I have to wonder if that would have happened in the rest of Canada, much less elsewhere in the world. The good people of Newfoundland did us very proud.
This is one of those 9/11 stories that doesn't often get shown and that is a shame. How everyone came together for others is something that gives one a little bit of hope in humanity.
Humanity is fine. The leadership sucks.
I really love my country.
Great presentation Bruce. You came a long way from Cornwall and Hay River. Glad you were where you needed to be on that day.
I was off from working at the airport during 9/11. We were told to stay home and come to work the next day. It felt too surreal, like something out of a drama. The next day, September 12, at work, I only heard birds and crickets when I opened my car door at the airport. Reality finally set in. I hid behind my car door, took a knee, prayed, and cried.
The people of Gander proved that humanity is alive and prospering. Its a pity that guy in Russia doesn't know this.
It’s a pity that you have linked one act of kindness with a war, that was preplanned by Nuland in 2014 to attack innocent civilians (culture, language, religion and lives). Why not just say the positive and keep the negative propaganda to yourself
So professional, that they already had their mindset prepared for an event. They just did not know how many they were really going to get. Well done!
I had the privilege of editing a book written by one of the people in charge that day. This town was prepared. Please read the history of Gander before 9/11. This was an airbase for a long time. There had been crashes where locals had to go and help. They knew how strategically they were placed regarding geography, and they had people that planned ahead.
I learned of the generosity of the people of Gander and nearby communities in a PBS documentary, aired sometime before 2010. People who lived there and who were on the airplanes that were ordered to land there all spoke of the friendships formed, and the kindness and cooperation shown by everyone. The USA is blessed to have such wonderful neighbors. 💖💖💖💖💖

I was visiting a friend in Chicago on 9/11. And for me (As he said) it was no aircraft noise that was the strangest thing. Especially as my friend lives near the main airport.
Strange, I wouldn't expect any commercial flight having to dump fuel coming from Europe when passing around Newfoundland which is maybe 2 hours of flight to JFK or any other U.S. east coast airport. Which is about more than 3/4 of their total flight time, so that they would be far under their maximum landing weight at that time.
At that time, they were also unaware if there were any more terrorists aboard other planes.
@@easttexasaviation Don't think so. The MLW is pretty high in most circonstances and airliners burn a good deal during take-off and climb. Plus any routes from Europe to the U.S. west coast doesn' go anywhere near Newfoundland. Only flights to east coast eventually central US would route there. Granted you would have flight going further south than just JFK but still.
@@easttexasaviation Thanks Captain Obvious. Are you a dispatcher maybe ?
Thank you, Canada!
Dumping fuel?
So they’re not overweight for landing…
Bless all of you!
God bless Canada ❤
Never immagien this Problems Because off the WTC Respect for all the people who made it Funktion
Humanity at it's best. Just love and kindness for someone in need of a helping hand. Thank you Canada, you were a bright light in a day of darkness.
This fine Gentleman, Mr Schultz, obviously spent too much time in England. He describes his most scary, brown trouser moment as "interesting."
makes me proud to be Canadian
And so you should be.
Canadians setting the example for the world. You are an inspiration.
@@WLEE100 thank you so much!
And, as Americans, we are SO lucky to have friends like our neighbors to the North. Merci!
What a great guy ! Nice to hear some of his encounters and of course flying a plane in my top 5 of WW2
Great interview. George Neal is a real gentleman.
What a shame and lack of foresight that our govt has. They started gutting ground crew, flight training in the 80’s and look at how that worked out. Aggressions in the South China Sea, Putin trying to resurrect the former Soviet Union and a prime minister who has colourful clown socks. It will be interesting to see how far down our pants are when all hell breaks loose.
In the photo, I love how he is hugging the propeller like he would his sweet heart!
I found that strange too, no sounds of airplanes. We are on the flight path for the Moncton Airport. So so quiet. My husband was Air Traffic Controller on 9/11 Moncton Center
I lived very close to interstate 75 just S. of Lex. Ky.; there was no traffic noise, no planes going over, it was so strange.
My husband was working ATC that day. Moncton Center
