I just got to see Twin XL in concert a day ago and you guys, they’re *even better* in person. If you have even half a chance to go see them while they’re on tour, do it!! Love these guys 💚

I saw Twin XL last night as the opening band for Fitz and the Tantrums. They were one of the three most pathetic groups I’ve ever seen in a live concert out of more than 500 shows. First and foremost they were a complete Milli Vanilli act. The drummer was a live drummer and appeared reasonably talented. That was the only portion of the show that actually seemed to be 100% live. All, or nearly all of the actual music was off a pre-recorded track. Most of the music came from synthesizer and a bass guitar, and it was obvious that there were no musicians on stage playing either instrument. The guitarist looked to be playing air guitar and there certainly were times when he took his hands completely off the guitar for extended periods yet the music continued uninterrupted. When the singer put his guitar on for about half of the songs, it was obvious that it was just a prop. He clearly did not know how to play the guitar and only randomly strummed at it a few times. As to the songs themselves, well, they were simply modern alt-pop garbage. They featured three or four chords of rhythm, primarily with heavy bass and drums, and had no actual tunes, but relied purely on a vocal harmony. It used to be that talented musicians would compose a tune on their instruments and fill in the lyrics as an afterthought, resulting in creative, complex pieces of music. In the 21st-century, having any sort of talent on a musical instrument is not just unnecessary, but virtually unheard of for these pseudo-rock bands. The show was flat-out horrible, yet there were hundreds of 20 somethings in the audience who thought it was amazing. This primarily came when the singer had them all take out their cell phones and shine the flashlights on them around the whole venue. This was actually a clever move to dupe the crowd because younger people by and large are ignorant of most things in the world that do not involve their handheld devices and the Internet, and this gimmick convinced them that they were having this extraordinarily relatable and personal experience by involving the thing that is most precious to them. None of these people understood anything about what makes up quality music played by talented musicians rather than just some form of a reality TV-like singing act. Twin XL are just posers. They did not play a show last night, they play-acted one
