Calvin was exactly as his last name suggests!💯
Nottz + Georgia Ann Muldrow have been my favs
On the De La topic that dude's book reminds me a lot of music/discography/artist retrospectives on youtube, which I guess is where it gets tricky. You make money on youtube, you make money from book sales etc there's that but I think it's the "bio" wording that ruffles feathers especially if the subject didn't have a hand in telling that story themselves, or at least adding or subtracting certain things.
Humanity needs Eli more than ever these days to stick it to the woke PC culture. He's the Best Mane, he deeeed It!
Their grandsons look like younger versions of them 🤯😂
Much love and blessings to Pete and Bas. ❤
There are no ghostwriters. Nine and Dex are their producers and have their own music. But, no youngsters write Pete and Bas' lyrics. Too many older generational references. Plus p & b have their own unique style and sound each of them. Plus Bas is an accomplished musician playing many instruments including piano which he also composes his own music. Excellent jazz pianist. . So he would easily pick up the mechanics of rap. It seems people really can't grasp the concept that not all older humans are feeble bodied or feeble minded. That ghostwriter rumor just keeps getting reinforced by ageists who are secretly jealous or embarrassed they are not as extremely talented as Pete and Bas are. Just saying...❤
Hi! It’s interesting seeing your reactions about respectability politics. Referring to women as females ironically too. It’s probably subconscious can’t blame you too much due to socialisation. It’s actually dehumanising. On top of that men have been rapping about vulgar, egregious, violent, hedonistic, superficial, hyper sexual shit since the inception of the art form. Fair enough to the guy who said he takes issue with male rappers refer to themselves as “niggas”, that’s a morally consistent stance. In general, it’s clear nigga is a widely accepted word of the black community that was reclaimed. Same way a woman referring to herself as a bitch intentionally, especially in art, doesn’t hold the same weight or dynamic than a man spewing misogynistic, sexist and objectifying lyrics and referring to a woman as a bitch. If you actually analyse the lyricism beyond the surface level of a quick fire freestyle form of Nissan Altima, which I believe she created in an hour during the Swamp Sessions (please correct me if I’m wrong), then you will uncover the depth to some of her lyrics in this track, even succinctly commenting on racism, classism, disparate beauty standards for black women through the lines “I’m in Gucci, in a bonnet, spendin’ mf bands”. It’s the intersectional experience, especially as a dark skin black African-American woman that she recalls, the almost absurd nature of it all, that her success had allowed her to acquire enough capital - especially social, cultural and ecomomic - to be able to do that. Would she have been able to do that when she didn’t have the wealth she acquired? Most likely not. So this isn’t really trying to shit on you or be rude in any way, it’s just interesting as people from a generation that predates mine, how you guys’ lens of her work seems almost reductive until the second song. I promise you her range as an artist and rapper would shit on 834764633 “male rappers” in the last decade alone. She’s raw, unfiltered and pure talent, and her rapping about her body, referring to herself in a provocative manner, sharing her sexual experiences as a bisexual woman, being “vulgar” it’s all an expression of a handful of multitudes she holds and doesn’t really take away any value in what she’s saying in any way. I’m genuinely not trying to be condescending or anything but I’d be interested if you guys would delve deeper into more feminist theory, who are the experts of patriarchy, and maybe living as long as yall have, a gentle reminder to try to shift perspectives a lil and try to understand our (gen z’s) realities a lil more and take us older ones more seriously. Doechii is 26 years old, a year older than me, the eldest gen z’ers are not babies or confused adult children! We still young but we grown enough! And having fun is not confined to youth sometimes it’s okay to enjoy a track that is just fun!🫶🏾 stay up, stay woke and stay blessed hoes 🫡💅🏾👊🏾🫂
They're grandsons don't write for them lol. They produce
You’re wrong they write their own lyrics. There grandson(nine and dex)help with the lingo. If you know UK lingo, some of there phrases are super old school…..young dudes wouldn’t know about that.
But is Kanye lying there may be beach on his t shirt
Pharrell never disappoints, he’s the real thing. Almost Every time we hear him it’s fire. He keeps it authentic, eclectic and fresh.
This the gayest shit I ever seen!
timbaland has never been good at making pure hip hop beats
There are no ghost writers, their grandsons produce and that's it.
You guys have to check out the visualizer version. It's made with AI and a GTA feel. Sic!
Please don't give that rubbish any exposure.
The fallacy in this way of thinking is that you believe back then when I was growing up, that artists was making peedo claims about each other and that colorism, or what country you’re from would play a part in drawing the line in this modern hip hop era where fans are extended beyond the US. This is why the old heads shake their heads at it because it’s taking two steps back and not forward in terms of where we want hip hop to be. Things that thrive off of negativity doesnt last long.
I like Nine and Dex but clearly their flows aren't as good as Pete and Bas. If they were capable of writing fire flows like Pete and Bas why would you not keep them for yourself?
Simple: it's easier to market 70 year old rappers.
@@NewOldHeadsPodcast You hit the nail on the head there. I love Pete and Bas, but Nine and Dex are not Pete and Bas's grandsons - Nine's father is about the same age as Pete and four years younger than Bas. The Sindhuworld boys tried to break into the US market with the same formula with "Frank & Maury" about four years ago, although Frank and Maury were actors that just badly lip-synched the videos to what sounds like Dex (or possibly Bas) and Patrick Karneigh Junior rapping. Check out "Chicken and Rice". I'm not saying that Pete and Bas are not involved in writing the bars, but "Pete and Bas" are two characters played by Peter and Basil (who have developed into top-notch rappers). Just as Patrick Karneigh Junior is a character played by Patrick Carney Junior. Whatever the truth about who writes the bars, and the relationship between Pete and Bas, and Nine and Dex, the net result is some excellent music.
I’m truly stupid paid. That’s just how I feel today.
I have a hard time believing their grandsons would come up with such old head lyrics and bars. Their songs are dope because they rap their own age. I mean, they most definitely help out, but I don't believe P&B just sit around waiting for more lyrics to drop.
I just want to say, so what if these cats have ghost writers? Half of the industry has them. I believe what I have hears for years now. Pete and bas are the writters, with nine and dex producing the beats and helping put some modern day phrasing in the raps to cater for all ages. Cockney geezers of this age are true wordsmiths and i wouldn't put it past them to be able to write clean poetry like they do.
Pssssht youtube keeps pushing that nine and dex ghost writer shit and you all are full of shit Nine and Dex CANT write as good as Pete and Bas. why would you ghost write shit better than you put on your own records.....you woulldnt. They have other videos with other producers in the studio without nine and dex and spitting the same quality shit but everyone keeps with the bullshit
because Pete and Bas are more marketable. derp
Nine and dex do the beats and help the boys out with lyrics.
No stooop the one who played her in the movie, god rest her soul, didn't do nothin😅
This album helped me go through my tough times. Really one of the best rap albums of all time
They write their own shit a little assistance from their grands
I guess what he's saying she'd be better off singing Christian music or being Taylor Swift and just being fake AF. If it was future talking about pussy and drugs he would be okay with it. But it's a female talking about that stuff and I guess that's a huge double standard.
Hell no. The live version is so good it’s one of my favorite songs on the album.
Charles really was a one-of-a-kind artist that we'll probably never see in hip hop again. Dude came up in an era where transparency, individualism, mental health, social media marketing, sampling global music genres, nerd culture were all taboo in the late 2000s where gangster rap was the gold standard in the hip hop industry.
Exactly. They say Kid Cudi was the first artist to touch on mental health and being transparent, but I believe Charles Hamilton was on it first, but it wasn't accepted back then. It wasn't till Kid Cudi got noticed that it was accepted and came at the right time.
Sometimes a good vibe is all you need. Easy play when you got people over
They worrying about where it started instead of focusing on where it is now
When Bas starts twiddling those fingers, you know it's flow time
☝️👏❤️✊💯🔥
The hand signals from bas if from his piano background, if you notice he does it when he speeds up and adds more sylables and still remains on beat. Also i don't think their grandsons write for them, i feel as though they are there for modern terminology to peice ut all together. Theres far too many references which no young person can even comprehend along with moubtains of cockney rhyming slang. The rhyming slang era which they lived through automatically makes it easier to rap because theyve spent years rhyming words so police and outsiders cant understand what their talking about.
Modern Day Dick Dastardly
Or Maybe Nas wasn't Ready to die ppl manifest their reality wake up ppl
if you guys are going to check out more of pete and bas. also check out nine and dex the grandkids songs as well
The grandsons help him with the modern age lingo! They the real don't dout it😊 they gangsters of the old bin up dated to the modern speak
Big Moe walked so Dave Blunts could run!
No link to the original vid in the description is disrespect.
You suggesting people can't discern how to find a video on UA-cam within 5 seconds when it's literally in the video is disrespect.
@NewOldHeadsPodcast I meam not like talking about someone's mother disrespectfully but yeah, I think it is kind of lame. What's it take to cut and paste the link into your description? Nothing, 30 seconds max. But what it shows is that you endorse and encourage YOUR aidiance giving views to the video that you all are gaining your own views from yourselves by making it as easy as possible for you viewers to watch the source material.
Ask yourself why you aren't commenting on THE VIDEO? The MUSIC? You acting like you have any idea how much time and effort goes into creating a show like this, and for us to put out a video reacting and promoting this record for FREE, is disrespectful. Please look INWARD. Have a great day.
@NewOldHeadsPodcast When I am watching a video I am looking outward I am giving YOU my TIME and then giving you more of my time by taking the time to write a comment that I sincerely believe to be true. So this "look inward" stuff sound like grade school level deflection to me. There is no meaness in my critique it is simply the tiniest of technicallities that you should do better. Your video is not about me it is about you, your content and your reference material. I'm not going to blame myself for my opinion opinion about it. More to the point your video seems to be done at a pretty high production level so it is kinda blowing my mind that you are so offended at a small technical criticism. What are you all so good and big that you are already beyond any reproach even at the minorist of levels? Just like a doctor who rights a thesis paper that is perfect on all levels, if he does not included a bibliography and references then his work is incomplete. But in that example he would actualy be committing a crime, plagiarism, not just a minor disrespect.
@@TacticalBunnyCA NO, we're not beyond reproach which is why you're getting a reply, but contribute to the conversation OF THE ART. If you'd like to volunteer your time towards growth of the show because you don't like something, JOIN OUR DISCORD and be proactive! Otherwise, have a blessed day
He was a booty bandit 🤣🤣 this is crazy!
Pete and bas write and deliver there own shit
It irks me how some people with such certainty can say that Pete and Bas have ghost writers because of their age or that Nine and Dex definitey write for them because they sound exactly alike. They sound nothing alike. Maya Angelou was 81 when she wrote her last published work. Old doesn't mean dead.
@@msliddy9744 Dex and Bas sound EXACTLY alike 😅 Also, from the perspective of working in studios and with rappers, and rapping, for them to jump out the gate and be in the pocket how they are means that they absolutely had a lot of coaching if it is indeed them. Writing like Maya and having an impeccable delivery are not the same thing
@@NewOldHeadsPodcast The delivery is not what you questioned, the writing was which is why I referenced Maya Angelou. You stated that they definitely have ghost writer. We will have to agree to disagree regarding Dex sounding "EXACTLY" Bas.
@@NewOldHeadsPodcastno you’re wrong. Pete and Bas DO write their own words. Just because you think it’s unrealistic due to being so good doesn’t make it not so. The only help they get is with some of the modern slang. Also re their delivery I bet you wouldn’t believe it was them if it didn’t show them in videos would you? If they can come out and deliver like that which is better than most rappers who’ve had a ton of practice, then why wouldn’t they also be equally impressive when it comes to writing.? They’re British remember so maybe don’t judge them by American standards
everyone keeps with the ghost writer bullshit when pete and bas are lyrically better than nine and dex (no disrespect) and theres videos of them in the studio with other producers spitting the same quality shit without nine and dex anywhere around.
Nine end dexs lyrics are subpar compared to pete and bas. They dont come close
Terrible
They never said they write the lyrics for them. They said they help them with some of the lyrics. They still claim to write most of it themselves. People just don’t believe it apparently
Wouldn't be surprised either way
As an old man being a teenager when Ice Cube was part of N.W.A. and then destroying them the the most famous diss track i've got nothing but love for him!!
A bald mullet is called a skullet👍
These gents write their own own bars but get the current lingo and expressions from the grandsons. Nine and dex produce and create the beats . Bad enough not even listening to the tune properly but not giving them props is bang out of order .✌️
It has been said that Pete and Bas write their lyrics, but Nine and Dex help with the modern slang.
bas was a piano artist and singer and had an album out in his youth, also they announce themas their grandsons in one of the shorts bas can write music and lyrics himself, from his days a s a musician and piano teacher. another ntoe is in relation to them beingg relations you can see the similarity they actually do look like yougner versions ive got not other evience t hough. also check out norman pain one of pete and bas crew
My only point is that if you go watch Nine and Dex's songs, their bars are nowhere near as clever and sophisticated as Pete and Bas's. I don't think they are the writers for Pete and Bas. I really believe that Pete and Bas are their own main writers with some collab with Nine and Dex. Now, Nine and Dex are definitely their producers, and make some sick beats, but their lyrics just don't compare for word play and old head references. Just saying.
I completely agree.
I'm 54, so I can also tell by the specific references in their songs, that they only get some help from their grandsons. No 20 something is rapping about people like Nina Simone and Janis Joplin like they do, and no younger rappers are using adjectives like "keen". Plus, like all old cats, Pete and Bas are *always* talking about food. There are rumors that Bas' dad owned an illegal boxing ring that did work on the black market, and that Pete fought and worked for them too. I can tell, as a writer, that they've had dealings in/with the underworld.
Much love and blessings to Pete and Bas. ❤
Yah, they write their own lyrics. Hey Sweet Pete. ❤
Dude theres so many bars that cant be written by kids
You Guys must do Pete and Bas Whirlybird. It's just Fire have your bar ears on .
