As someone looking for something like this, big, loping 4-seat coupe is quite the niche back then as well as now. Other options on today's used market really are a BMW6er or Jag XK8, both of which leave a lot to be desired in terms of rear space and are more 2+2s really, or a Chrysler-era Merc CL, a car whose running costs make a 90s Rover look like a base spec Toyota Avensis. I've had two Rovers before, an early 45 1.4 manual and a very late 75 2.5. Both were rather pleasant in a "grammar boys reunion circa 2002" sort of way, although the Project Drive cuts on the 75 did show - the car felt just felt like it was missing something, somehow. I could very well be tempted by one of these coupes.

I had 3 800 Fastbacks and loved them. Covering huge mileage they just cruised for ever. Bedford to Darlington and back in a day was easy.

This was 'Peak Rover' The new Metro was still competitive, the 200/400 were good, and the facelifted 800 looks fantastic. Its a shame about the 75 and getting tarred with the 'old folks image.

I had “Magical Sound Shower” playing in my head throughout that(Outrun).

I love these cars (and all Rover group vehicles from this era) But this launch was utterly brutal on the ear. Wowsa. I really miss MG Rover Group, I really feel like they were so close to wrestling things back to stability. What a shame 😢

The police officers involved make a very good point, you can plan what you think is the best possible route for the circumstances but you can't really legislate for any unforeseen events or accidents - life happens and they just have to try and deal with whatever arises given the time.

Unfortunately there's no real legislating for foolishness or just plain simple ignorance of other road users.

I hope someone upgrades the footage (maybe using AI) at some point, I would love to see this at least in HD, great driving

Head gasket

I had two Rover 800's . The first was the an 'O' series 8-valve carburettor automatic economy version - even had manual window winders in the back. Sparkling the performance was not, but I got 40mpg over a whole tankful on a long trip to Wales carrying 4 people and luggage - staggering economy for such a large automatic car carrying such weight. And I still got it up to 110mph once carrying 4 people before I bottled out. And it was very comfortable to drive over a long distance.

This was before the police got Vauxhall senator 3 litre injection 24 valve
